So I found this channel about a month ago and became slightly obsessed. Thought it would be a brilliant idea to go back to the first video and watch them as they were made. Boy has the last month been a ride. I have laughed, cried and enjoyed every bloody minute of it all. Im finally up to this last video and i honestly feel sad to watch knowing that I will now be waiting weekly like all the other fans do currently. Im gonna saviour this one. You have been a constant in my house for the last month Kaylee so much so even my man said your voice has become a permanent part of our days. Very happy to call myself a fan and look forward to keeping up with the journey. Thanks for everything 😊
I think your Alocasia Odora Okinawa is actually Alocasia macrorrhiza variegata. Both of them are very similar and confusing to us Thais too. Okinawa leave is usually more pointy and the colors are darker/whiter.
I was about to say the same thing- not to mention the fact that most people don't actually have odoras, but actually have gageana (myself included). Definitely looks more like a macrorrhiza. The easiest way to tell is how the leaf and stem meet- the macrorrhiza comes to a point with the stem, while the gageana/odora have an extra section of leaf between the top part of the 'Y' Edit- seeing the close up I'm not totally sure, but I do know it's NOT what most people call odora (which is the gageana haha)
@@rachelnutter5685 Yeh the 3 are soo confusing. Alocasia Gageana Variegated adds to even more confusion haha. Even here in Thailand I keep seeing people asking about the differences between macrorrhiza and odora on fb every week. The prices are so different tho. Odora is almost 10 times more expensive.
@@pitschno for sure! Here in the states macrorrhiza is more expensive, but I’ve also never seen an actual odora for sale... they’re all gageana that are mislabeled 😂 it doesn’t help that a big box store will occasionally release a bunch of them and just label them “variegated alocasia” or worse “house plant” 🤦🏼♀️
I stopped watching your videos for a while because while I love the "rare" plants, they're just not in my price range. I've come back because your video quality/production and how much research you put into knowing your plants is unmatched on youtube. Thanks for hours of entertainment!
It's the same for me! The most expensive thing I own is a anthurium clarinervium (that hasn't put out a leaf in weeks :( But I love it). most of my other plants are cuttings.
I would never pay more than like 50 euros for a plant, and even that is a lot of money for me. But I think these videos satisfy some sort of curiosity very well! It's fun to see what's out there, even if I have no interest in owning rare plants.
I really love your haul videos (I mean I love all your videos because you are queen 🙌) but I also love that you show your plants just how they are. Instagram makes plants so “perfect” looking which is nice but it sometimes makes people forget that that’s not realistic for some haha. Water marks, funky leaf shape, and weird new growth...all normal and we love to see it!
YES I needed this after this week, living vicariously through you so I don't go stress-buy plants ❤ Edit: omg I love longboi, those small lobes are so cute! And I love how wispy it is 😍
YES! I remember you saying in your Rare Plant Index that you just didn't "get it" with holtonianum(and Lynamii way back in the day too). But I recall looking at mine when I heard that and being like, why WOULDN'T you like this, it's so different! And now you have one and seem to be diggin it. Never say never when it comes to plants! Glad you found your way to our side; They're awesome! :)
I got A. Odora Okinawa Silver from a seller in Okinawa (I live in Japan) a few months ago at an auction and is considered like weed in Okinawa so I got it at a reasonable price here (lower 2digit in dollars). I put it in high light under a grow light and all the new leaves got smaller and are all white. I moved it to a darker corner and now grew a leaf with variegation with more green. Currently grows 1 leaf every 2-3weeks in winter and seems variegation is stable.
The long boi is so amazing, love that it grows all over the place. So I will have to search for it and wait! 🇨🇦. Thanks for Another great video on all these great unusual plants, love them all....hmmmmm that’s dangerous! Have a great weekend, looking forward to your next vid!🙏💖
I love Okinawa Silver! Mine is super easy to care for, and doesn’t seem to be reverting 🤍 It’s from Okinawa, the hottest place in Japan, so try giving it hot hot tropical temperature 🥰🪴✨
The Alocasia Odora Albo Varieagata has been the most stable Alocasia Variegata in my collection. They do like grow lights though!!!!!! Just keep that in mind.
I bought a nice mature philodendron mexicanum a few months ago. I didnt know anything about it but I loved the look. I've been waiting for you to mention it, lol, and today was the day! 🤩
Hi Kaylee Ellen, I love how honest you are about giving us the truth regarding all plants. Do you know if the Golden Gem Rubber Tree is one that reverts a lot. I bought one, within 3 weeks the golden color was gone. I tried different locations....nothing happened. I put it under my full spectrum grow light and still no golden color. So I tell people that I have a lemon-lime colored rubber tree LOL. It is very health, just an odd color. Thank you and have a wonderful weekend. 🌸
We have a ton of the Xanthosoma “Mickey Mouse” down here in South Louisiana, US. I have them circling all my trees in the backyard and they’re gorgeous!
I have tried 4times with Xanthosoma Mickey Mouse and all of them end tragically. I have tried so many treatments but still - no luck- luckily - it’s quite cheap and easy to get this plant here in Jakarta, Indonesia. Wish you all the good luck with Xanthosoma 👍🏻
The Odora variegation is stable usually. IME They tend to like it warm and very moist with morning and late evening sun, and very bright indirect light during the main part of the day. They tend to be heavy feeders, and prefer loose well draining slightly acidic soil that is both nutrient dense and consistently moist. Whenever I have attempted to grow them in leca/or clay aggregate of any kind, and use synthetic fertilizers, they die, burn, or shrink to nothing. Perhaps others can weigh in on their care, but if they are cared for properly they seem to explode in growth.
Okinawa silver can go almost totally white sometimes mine is anyway. the mickey mouse is Xanthosoma Atrovirens Variegatum Monstrosum beautiful plant and can grow huge. Great video as always .
The world of "rare plants" what I call overpriced bush, fascinates me, many featured are quite beautiful, but I think the first one featured has nothing really outstanding or exotic about it except the price tag, ( just my take) keep the videos coming kaylee. !! 😊😊
@wendy pearson and I'd absolutley love everyone to be able to share in the joy of plants, irrespective of their pocket depth, its suppose to bring beauty and joy to our lives after all.....not anxiety and stress because we spent airfare on a plant.
I definitely agree with you I didn’t start collecting these rare plants until I had more common plants for over a year & I was completely confident in myself that I could keep them alive. LUCKILY I haven’t killed one of my rare plants. It all comes down to humidity, light & watering!
My variegated Alocasia Odora has been stable...it’s next to a west facing window with not the best lighting due to winter, and it’s still variegated 🤞🏼
I got one big one and a few small ones I have grown them from corms of Alocasia odora Okinawa silver, and they are big, I would say that they could revert but mine are not yet so far depends on mama plants I think.
LONGBOI!!! YAS!!! Thank you! Thank you for introducing the more uncommon, more funky type of green babes!! I love it !!!! Bring it more! More Rare Plant Indexes! Please ! Do Fastest Growers! Or Most Rewarding! Cheers to you! You deserve it.
Always a delight to see your videos and yes! Weirdly, I like the Mexican and holtianum. But, I'm not attracted to the joepii. Love the alocasias, but, can't get a full pot of it unless I plant lots of tubers in it.
They sold a bunch of variegated alocasia at big box stores in the US last year. I think they might be odora maybe. Anyway... they seem super stable. Mine put out tons of leaves and they're all gorgeous.
Thank You for another great video!! :) I've now added 3 new plants to my wish list - Xanthosoma Mickey Mouse, Philodendron Mexicanum & Philodendron Holtonianum. Such interesting and unusual leaf shapes and I love them!! Now to see if I can find them in Australia for a price I can afford...
My Alocasia Odora Okinawa Silver has given me three new leaves in the past 2 months and no reversion whatsoever. Even got a half-moon. Please keep your love for them :)
Hey Kaylee! I have a new leaf on my Alocasia Dragon scale and although it came out nice and big, there was a whole in it 😩 there are no bugs, so do you know what it might be? Not enough water? What could cause a hole in a brand new leaf?
what's the difference between an odora okinowa silver and an alocasia macrorrhiza variegated? I think I have one of the later and they look very similar and the variegation appears stable.
I honestly love these long ones much better than any variegated ones. This might be offensive to some ^^ but when I see a variegated plant I mainly see a sick plant.. But I like the spear-like shape of the one on the right side of the image.
