You guys should arrange for RJ to speak with some pro tekken players in a vid and do sort of two way analysis on some match videos, specifically, most pro players are hella nice and would probably love to have a discussion. I'd love to hear his insight into the practical side of match flow/timing variation/stamina (health/risk) management in context to the competitive side of the game. I'm sure it's been said before in comments there's more in common with compeitive fighting games and sports fighting than people think- for instance RJ mentions a lot of using smaller attacks to setup bigger attacks but that's absolutely a concept poking/footsie in fighting games. Same thing with cornering especially in tekken, not only do you get more combo damage for bringing them to the wall , you get positional advantage which affects how useful some moves are. (ie: a knock down move basically giving you a full combo at the wall, or juggles/less pushback in 2d fighters). Things like teeps (keep out/spacing moves) and stop hits (quick interrupt moves) and counter punching(counter hits) are also things that overlap.

RJ Clifford is back, and it's been a hot minute since I last watched his videos so this is great to see. Became a fan of him since seeing him do the Tekken fighters a year ago or two. Now these experts are the real deal.

I highly enjoyed watching Jin’s Karate moves, and I really like how he does his rapid punches, including his Double Chamber Punches, Suigetsu Strike, his Power stance, etc.
Lidia is the only real karate master remaining.. Jin's new moves in T8 have nothing to do with karate
@@kain1144 His move are more in line with something you'd see out of an anime protagonist now but there is still some trace techniques of Kyokushin karate in his moveset.

It feels like this episode was very rushed. He analyzed the chars in T7 way better than here. Paul for example is not a Sambo Fighter. Just using boots and doing a suplex is not directly Sambo. Sambo would be Dragunov (which he mentioned in T7). Paul is more Judo, but mixed with some Rowdy Street Fight. He also didn't saw, that he basically flxed the sleeve off in his special. It also felt that he talked over so many moves which were shown, but in the end ignored. I hope we get a longer T8 video in the future where he analyze them again, maybe even with slowmo so he can have a good look.
Totally, it's weird how he got some things 100% right on the previous video, but on this one he got those same things wrong
Yea I just watched them all since 8 just came out. I think it's largely a direction problem. In the gameplay footage for 7 they use really simple combos and moves. There was just too much crazy shit and flashy moves in this one for a good analysis.
10:40. Imagine thats a mechanic in tekken 8, that would buff grapplers on some stages so opponents would have to adapt and think of a strategy more, that would be cool and frustrating. It will also add a lot of complexity in the game

To be fair I've been playing since Tekken 3 like 25 years ago and I didn't even know until this games story mode. I thought that tank he ripped apart was just paper mache or some shit.

Yo. Launchers as an abstraction of getting initiative when you stun your opponent is actually genius.
Also, GSP studied frame data of fighters. Real life combat sports are pretty much independently discovering the same mechanics in fighting games and it's super weird. Max Holloway played the UFC game to test out strats without getting extra brain damage or eating up recovery time. He basically got a character to do a spinning move to dodge a straight attack and since it worked in the game, he reasoned it'd work IRL and won a match that way.
actually 10:00 is Taekwondo, not Karate, but still is similar since it has Karate as one of their foundation martial styles.
This guy successfully guessed each character's martial art wrongly.

He said karate after a couple of kicks, and guess what, kerate is A LOT about kicks. He then said tae kwon do... He's a guy with actual martial arts and fighting knowledge, not some geek who can recite every Tekken bio by heart but has never seen daylight.

I had no idea that voice announcer was female. Not that it changes anything( I try not to assume genders just as a rule) but her voice is so great for Hyping thing up. I looked her up and man she like the gaming announcer equivalent of that famous boxer announcer.
Yep Lin is a well known MMA fight announcer and she's the reason why Pride Fighting Championship had all those hype fighter intros during the fights.

the tekken game needs to be about stamina bars, not health bars and hp points. every round ends to quickly if you know what you're doing.

Robotic joints tend to have more and smaller and more brittle parts than organic joints. technically structurally weaker due to more points of failure with lower individual damage thresholds.
That being said, it's not a good idea to try and grapple powered machinery.

I like how this guy basically explains fighting games when talking about real life. From grapplers not wanting their opponents out of the corner to conditioning your opponent.

I give Gamology one thing in this vid and that's showing really good gameplay or a more potential display of combos. Even though they are most likely gameplay trailers. I just wish they would invite real and proffessional players to display the games full potential next time in the future.

His commentary was really good, but he was a bit off on some of the fighting styles. Paul is Karate/Judo, Hworoang is Tae Kwon Do, and Leroy Smith is Wing Chun
The martial art of Leroy Smith using is Wing Chun.the basic martial art that Bruce Lee learn from Ip Man before he is create his own martial art.And Wing Chun is one of Chinese Wushu.(He wasn't wrong about saying this.)
