Nice to see Gemma again in these videos. Kinda wish you put the characters’ fighting styles when they are shown like the Mishimas with their Mishima style Karate for example. Overall, great video!
I sometimes question these so called experts that you guys choose for these videos. They make comments on things acting like they know what they are talking about but when an actual person who knows the martial arts hears them, they just sound so misinformed. For example on the lidia part. They said it looked like they don't know what they are doing with her and just put in a bunch of moves. And your female expert is supposed to be a karate expert yet she didn't recognized the shotokan and okinawan karate moves that lidia perfectly showed. What kind of a 12x sports karate champion is that?
Paul’s stance is also a reflection of his age. I believe he’s in his early 50s, but correct me if I’m wrong. In Heinhachi’s case, since he’s student of power hungry dominance, his stance is more refined for the sake of asserting his dominance over his opponents
I'd suggest getting actual fighters next time. MMA, Muay Thai, etc. Ya know, people who trained styles and know how it's incorporated in an actual fight, and not choreographed.
Jin Kazama in Tekken 3 uses Myshyma style karate, in Tekken 4, Tekken 5, Tekken 6 and Tekken 7 Jin uses Kyokushin Karate, and in Tekken 8 he uses mix from Kyokushin, Myshyma, Kazama, Devil and Angel styles.
They got Lydia so wrong. She does traditional karate and most of her moves are drawn from Shotokan and Shitoryu katas. It's very clear to anyone who has seem them at least once, they are just not common on mainstream media. If you dont believe me, look for a few katas like the five Shitoryu Pinans (or Heians in Shotokan style).
Criticizing Lidya's style, when it is the actual accurate representation of Shotokan Karate - her move set is from Shotokan Kata :D Are you sure you're background is Karate, when you don't even recognize basic gedan barai?

Huh. I would've thought featuring Reina would be the most obvious choice for Tekken 8 MA reactions since the devs did a lot of marketing about her Mocap and Fighting Style influences.
I'm annoyed at how often they say it's a bunch of random styles. These so called experts are no expert at all. They don't recognize bajiquan. They don't recognize kupojutsu. They don't even recognize shotokan karate which is the most recognizable karate style. Like seriously? They only thing they recognized was tae kwon do. They even said leo made a bad 540 and that leo is a noob. Sorry but technically there is no 540 in bajiquan. That kick leo did is not made for a high kick. Also high kicks originally did not exist in traditional martial arts. High kick became a thing for sports nd commercial purposes. They wanted to show off and high kicks looks cool. This was how they got students by performing high kicks. A traditional martial art like bajiquan has very little amount of kicks that goes above the chest.
We need a part 2 I didn't see Steve, Claudio, Lars, Azucena, Dragunov, Reina, Victor, Zafina, Shaheen, and many others who have interesting styles. I think Leo's is BajiQuan
I'm sorry as someone who practises karate, calling Lidia's movements random tells me there is a huge lack of knowledge or just plain ignorance. You guys need to get someone to do research or something because this video was just frustraiting to watch.
9:50 "He's kicking at waist level" while Leo is kicking someone in the face. The fact that neither of them could recognise Bajiquan is far more shameful.
Nevermind Bajiquan, Lidia's mocap actor was done by an actual Okinawan Shotoka Master. Saying "it was a bunch of random moves" is straight disrespectful.
No hate but I have to say this: Jeremy drowned out Gemma hard. And I know he's a top stunt guy, but sounding so high and mighty and dissing the mocap people who are TRAINED MARTIAL ARTISTS makes me wonder if he was the right choice for this one. Gemma would probably work better with someone else for these. I wanted to like this and hear him out but at some point I was just zoning him out and focusing on keywords here and there.
2:35 Shion is a He. Doesn't take away from any of the points they were making. They did call Leo a he later on in the video however. That's been debated for a while.
They gotta understand that the Mishima’s are an exception in that they made their OWN form of martial arts that is ancient to their bloodline. So Kaz’s flying kick doesn’t have to meet any traditional karate form standards lol. Its not traditional to begin with.
Yeah, we're gonna need a redo, this video didnt do it for me and I didnt even finish it because I knew beforehand I wouldnt like it between Gemma always being unable to fathom the fantastical properties of games that are based on Martial Arts, and a New guy who looked like a know it all based off the thumbnail. Don't get me started on the guy who didn't know Lidia's style is based on an actual, traditional fighting style AND is a very close adaptation. Seriously, lets get some *"experts"* that know what they're talking about, but also genuinely enthused and or has a liking to Games like Tekken. Down vote from me.
I think you guys here at Gamology need to start bringing in people that know the games you have these IRL experts reviewing so that they can explain some of the things that they question. I can say for sure that Everyone does have a set style but when you've been one of these fighters for 20-25+ years.... and you've fought some of these people... you'll end up blending and some times stealing what they do into what you do as well as change what you do because it hasn't worked out or given you much headway in your fights. You guys should know that realisticly that women have more flowing moves because they can't push out the power that men can on average so they have to make up for it in flow, Often times making them spin in some moves and them not looking how you would expect. Like when she was talking about Leo's Kick ( I've been under the Idea that Leo is a Girl fronting like a guy, many things like they body shape, some of the Items they have when you edit them says female and unlike the other males in the game.. they have nothing that has them shirtless nor do they have anything like a bikini like all the other females. ) The kick isn't as high as you said you expected it to come out because they don't have the power in themselves to have it hit as hard as it should if they pushed it higher There is also the fact that Jin's style was the same as Kazuya's until Tekken 4 where he unlearned and took up Karate and then slowly using some of his old style thanks to his Devil form being more and more of a Prescence in his backstory and actions
Are these real experts in martial arts they can't recognize Lidia's traditional style , also Leroy doesn't shoot fire balls , also the mock-up for the teep that they call front kick is actually very realistic idk what they are on about.
These 2 only know about the style(s) that got them noticed and where they are...they have some knowledge but wouldn't call em experts on the subject...definitely take what they sat with a grain of salt
This was honestly a crazy disservice to Tekkens portrayal of martial arts. The level of clarity that Tekkens motion capture does and the lack of recognition of it and just criticizing “whatever looks cool” is honestly telling of their bias towards certain martial arts and elitism. Tekken has some of the best stylistic animation for martial arts as all of the moves are essentially a demonstration of each specific martial art in a vacuum (if the game had resistance or loss of momentum to every hit then it would lose what the style looks like since of course blocking doesn’t show the true form of the art) Not recognizing Shotokan Karate from Lidia, not demonstrating Reina Mishimas Taido And boiling Juns style to Wushu. The video didn’t help in that the CHARACTER SELECT has all their styles identified but decided to skip over that. It’s pretty obvious that they just glazed over these videos and just threw in their “Credibility” to validate all their criticism. Pretty low quality.
Sucks that Reina wasn't shown, her Taido stuff is really cool and interesting. Plus that's mixed with some Mishima stuff too. Definitely one of the coolest new characters as of late
It's the union of back sitting martial arts nerds and Tekken fans. What a combination...like I too don't agree with everything that the guy said but I honestly can't blame him since most Tekken animation are outdated(looking at kaz) or at least "inspired" by martial arts since the game is supposed to have a anime/realistic balance. Even the most well realistic animated characters( Eddie, hwo,Lidia, law, maybe Feng and drag) have bs moves
Yoshimitsu is basically a ghost-ish character if im not mistaken, i mean the character were originally a normal human being but one day he chose to do the shaman thingy so he turn into not fully human. At least that is what i know about him!
I guess he saw the tornado kick from one of the basic combos. But he clearly doesn't know a single reference of shotokan, even if it was yoko geri-ing him in the face.

Nice to see Gemma again in these videos. Kinda wish you put the characters’ fighting styles when they are shown like the Mishimas with their Mishima style Karate for example. Overall, great video!
The characters have very distinct styles. a kick is still a kick though....show the professionals the styles, its in the select screen!
0:31 "Let me see your manager" See, even she noticed Paul's 'Karen' haircut that some Tekken fans hate😂
Leo is supposed to be a Bajiquan practitioner
2:34 I like when they show the montage of female kung fu characters that the first one is a male ......
Jun Kazama, a Chinese female who practices WuShu. First news I got, great insight!
Paul’s stance is also a reflection of his age. I believe he’s in his early 50s, but correct me if I’m wrong. In Heinhachi’s case, since he’s student of power hungry dominance, his stance is more refined for the sake of asserting his dominance over his opponents
This guy said "even Max Holloway could beat him up" like Max isn't a world class MMA competitor. WTF?
I'd suggest getting actual fighters next time. MMA, Muay Thai, etc. Ya know, people who trained styles and know how it's incorporated in an actual fight, and not choreographed.
Jin Kazama in Tekken 3 uses Myshyma style karate, in Tekken 4, Tekken 5, Tekken 6 and Tekken 7 Jin uses Kyokushin Karate, and in Tekken 8 he uses mix from Kyokushin, Myshyma, Kazama, Devil and Angel styles.
"Martial Art experts"
Proceeds to know very little.
Yess!! I was just watching all the previous React videos with Gemma and thinking how cool the Tekken 8 one would be! Perfect timing :D Jeremy is great too but Gemma is just ❤❤
Bruh she was afraid AF to not counter call the new guy
@Raja-it8en Nah just didn't wanna seem like a 1000% simp for Gemma... even though I actually might be 😂 a little bit lmao
This dude literally didn't know lots of the styles spoken here. "Random styles" literally is Shotokan Karate.
Better be a part 2 where they actually look at the style they use and not just comment on how they look smh
"A lot of female characters..."
The footage in the background is Shion from KOF who is a dude.
Nina's had that backhand forever. These aren't normal humans either in the Tekken universe. They can do weird stuff. Lol
Facts about the Capoeira. Its tricky and amazing strong. It plays with distance and has surprises that catches even the most experience fighter off guard.
Seriously learn the character's style so you get an understanding
It's cool to see Gemma again. Long time no see.
Always cool to see Gemma back. She's such a beautiful ball of energy!
Yup! As soon as you see her on the thumbnail, instant click. Her and Yoshi are awesome. She tries to keep him in track when he starts geeking out. 🤣 Looking forward to when we see them both back
@@insertgenericusernamehere2402 Yeah sadly this guy counteracted it with his boring, lecture type energy.
@@MrCageCatI disagree, he had some interesting points.
@@insertgenericusernamehere2402 Some, but overall he felt too preachy and picky for me, personally. Also he got a lot of the fighting styles wrong, especially Lidia, not recognising basic Shotokan karate (the most popular karate style in the world).
@@MrCageCat that's fine, you're entitled to your opinion bud. I can't imagine listening to him speak for hours but in a short blast like this I have no complaints
Huh. I would've thought featuring Reina would be the most obvious choice for Tekken 8 MA reactions since the devs did a lot of marketing about her Mocap and Fighting Style influences.
I need them to watch the choreographed tekken fights. Their so awesome
Paul's style is based around Judo. And the moves of the characters are of course mocapped by actual martial artists.
Although the lore states he is a Judo practitioner i would say he is Kudo which is Karate¨+ Judo.
Ah yes, the famous Judo deathfist, I shoulda recognized 🤣
Paul is judo just in name dude lol
I believe Feng Wei uses Kempo style martial arts.
I miss Yoshi and Gemma together they kill me
Brought back Gemma let's Goooo martial arts reacts.
Gemma Nguyen. Seven world time champion in sport karate, also an action actress and stuntperformer IS BACK. With her deadly height of two feets. ❤
Guess Bagua is instantly “kung fu” but Baji is less known. If you know though, you instantly recognize the signature moves of the style.
So nice to see Gemma back
YEEESSS I've been waiting for this video 😭😭😭😭
We need a part 2
I didn't see Steve, Claudio, Lars, Azucena, Dragunov, Reina, Victor, Zafina, Shaheen, and many others who have interesting styles.
I think Leo's is BajiQuan
I'm sorry as someone who practises karate, calling Lidia's movements random tells me there is a huge lack of knowledge or just plain ignorance. You guys need to get someone to do research or something because this video was just frustraiting to watch.
Is "CapoEirista" not "Capoísta"
That "jacknife kick" is literally what it's called too for HWO. 7:26
They don't really seem to know what they're talking about lol
Bro, the ending fight between Jin and Kazuya was insane. Not to mention, Jin using his moms fighting style
Now I need one of these videos with RJ Clifford.
No offense to the new guy but yoshi and noah were way better in terms of breaking down these styles and making the video fun to watch
Leo is short for Eleonore. She is a female tho is intentionally gender ambiguous in the more recent games.
You guys need to redo the video again with lots of effort instead of that
dont bring that guy back haha
Like when she was talking about Leo's Kick ( I've been under the Idea that Leo is a Girl fronting like a guy, many things like they body shape, some of the Items they have when you edit them says female and unlike the other males in the game.. they have nothing that has them shirtless nor do they have anything like a bikini like all the other females. ) The kick isn't as high as you said you expected it to come out because they don't have the power in themselves to have it hit as hard as it should if they pushed it higher
There is also the fact that Jin's style was the same as Kazuya's until Tekken 4 where he unlearned and took up Karate and then slowly using some of his old style thanks to his Devil form being more and more of a Prescence in his backstory and actions
Are these real experts in martial arts they can't recognize Lidia's traditional style , also Leroy doesn't shoot fire balls , also the mock-up for the teep that they call front kick is actually very realistic idk what they are on about.
oooh a yapper
This is where the fun begins!!!! 🙏🏽💪
Tekken has some of the best stylistic animation for martial arts as all of the moves are essentially a demonstration of each specific martial art in a vacuum
(if the game had resistance or loss of momentum to every hit then it would lose what the style looks like since of course blocking doesn’t show the true form of the art)
Not recognizing Shotokan Karate from Lidia, not demonstrating Reina Mishimas Taido And boiling Juns style to Wushu.
Smart ass self proclaimed martial artist and an action star that thinks he knows it all.
LFG!!!!!!!
It';s good to see Gemma on this channel as its been a while since we last seen her with Noah.
I need to see a battle between both iterations of Yoshimitsu; Project Soul vs Iron Fist
You’d think if they were reacting they’d be informed of each character’s fighting style.
2:33 - "A lot of female...", editor proceeds to show Shion. Hahaha
Jeez Karate/Kung fu community are hella critical, with in good reason I’m sure but damn lol
Yea Gemma is usually cool but this guy was real critical lol
LydellG4this guy can't even recognize lidia's shotokan
@@LydellG4 He dragged the video down sadly for me.
@@ektrfirefox2571man go play league of legends or something
Yoshimitsu is basically a ghost-ish character if im not mistaken, i mean the character were originally a normal human being but one day he chose to do the shaman thingy so he turn into not fully human. At least that is what i know about him!
As a caporista everything he Said about capoeira was on point 😊
Isnt Lidia style is a more traditional Shotokan karate??? So where is this "mixed with taekwondo" come from???
I guess he saw the tornado kick from one of the basic combos. But he clearly doesn't know a single reference of shotokan, even if it was yoko geri-ing him in the face.
Jeremy was also on Justkiddingnews. He was hilarious on there!
Was he equally uninformed?
Bruh said "even Max Holloway" like Max isn't one of the baddest dudes to have ever lived lol this is why yall need another actually martial artist to pair with Gemma instead of a stunt guy.
and the funny things is max also learn some move from video game back then.
