- Porsche test driver, Lars Kern, continued his winning streak as he smashed another record on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, this time in a 911 GT2 RS fitted with the Manthey Performance Kit. The best time of 6:43.300 minutes now makes it the fastest road car on the track. Take in the view as he guides it around the circuit.

was 3:55 turn done right, I'm not a racer, looks like he wasn't tight, but maybe for that turn you go out to make speed? I don't know?
@@l337g0g0 je indeed was a tad to fast there, you can also hear the loss of traction for a second, but still nordschleife is regarded as one of the most difficult racetracks around the world and his overall performance in the lap was ways above average.
Watch Robert kubica in a bmw m4...it might not he as fast but he's amazing.
You should watch Porsche 919 Hybrid lap then.. It's worse than watching Inception or Insterstellar coz there's no twist in there, sheer excellence!

The high-speed sections (over 300 Kmh) are reduced. I remember in the original GT2RS (non MR) that the car was recording 300+ in various straight sections of the track. The aero has brought it down but the cornering speeds have gone waaaaay up. Shows how much it plays part in hitting record lap times in a twisty track like Nurburgring.
This car was hitting 300 several times.

Problem was the reduced power because there weren’t tyres enough good too handle all the downforce and acceleration

@@ziggyfreud5357 No I'm not, I race karts, I wasn't able to start racing seriously till my late 20's and I'm 34 now. My family didn't come from money to race when I was young. But maybe my 11 year old will, she is fast in a kart and really loves it.
@@DanielNux Fair enough. I have thought the same thing about myself and wondered would I have been good enough as a driver to go pro. I'm now 60 and bought a GT3RS 3 yrs ago. I am now driving it well enough to be within 1-2 secs of the pro drivers at my local track. I wonder how I would have done if I'd started karting as a 4 yo ? To have a chance to be a pro in anything you need natural talent which is a gift and that talent needs to be nurtured very early in life in order to truly blossom. I guess we all look back and think "what if ?" Cheers dude - best of luck to your daughter - she'll do well if she is passionate about it :)

I love that the ‘Ring tests every limit of a car. Tight corners, big sweepers, banked, counter banked, small straights, huge straight, undulating…
That was one hell of a lap!
(The ‘Ring does seem narrow though- how TF they race on that thing is beyond me.)

I think the driver made that happen. It was 100% all in driving skill. I loved some of thr car rotation under brakimg and je jist uses it and powers through corners. Amazing drive. Aston Martin are coming for the title in the Valhalla. Looking to take 10secs off with 950BHP and lots of cool aero.

@@currycel470 The Mantey version does use a bigger wing in the back which will slow down the topspeed but does benefit the car overall
@@currycel470 It won't even get close to 340kph with that rear wing. A stock Mclaren 720's is 10kph faster than this Porsche on the long uphill straight.
@@ianbrown9082 the 765LT's top speed is 333kph. Your point is officially proven, except that the Porsche is still faster around the track.

Lars Kern, WHAT A LEGEND OF A DRIVER !!! What a legend !!!
He is REALLY on it here, at full attack the entire lap - so many corners you can hear and see the car slipping and sliding on the very edge of adhesion and he is absolutely on it, not even a twitch to lift the throttle even for a moment, … what a legend!
Some of the corners were TRULY SCARY to watch as he was on full attack and it is a amazing what Manthey Racing has done with the work on the suspension of this car, absolutely murdering some of the curbs at such speeds!
The 991.2 GT2 RS is a beast of a car as well - 300 km/h BEFORE SCHWEDENKREUZ !!!!! How is that even possible !? And a top well above 300 very early already down Doettinger Hoehe!
Also - Lars Kern being fear less - Mutkurve at 200 km/h !!!
This driver +car combination absolutely clobbered performance from the current generation GT3 RS in VLN races in many places around the track, it is shocking !!!

I noticed that too. I think he did that to overcome turbo lag and get max boost when exiting the corners.

I came from watching the 919 Evo lap, and this feels like slow motion compared to it, which is amazing if you keep in mind how fast this lap was.
Truly on the definitive limit, even difficult to achieve this time in the sim not to mention in real life. the grip and stability of the car is amazing. hats off

It's not a Manthey Racing GT2 RS anymore, it's a Porsche GT2 RS with Manthey-Racing kit.
Imagine what the next generation of Porsche Hypercar can do !
First was the GT3 & now GT2 Porsche is out of this world.
altough this is last gens gt2rs.
The braking of this car is phenomenal. Although all other elements of performance are complementing each other but as a driver if one is assured that the brakes will perform as they do in this car then the added driver confidence with increased full throttle times will contribute to better track timings. All the elements are balanced and nothing overpowers the other to unsettle the driver's confidence in his machine.
The steer handling on corners is superb
True fact, the car is astonishing, but the pilot can only perform like that cus he knows the track by heart and can literally do a lap with his eyes closed. Perfect!

The AMG record was set by a stock car that is a legal production road car, that too on a wet lap.
This 911 is not stock and not street legal.

@@samkray5626 It wasn't a slightly wet track, it was a really wet track. The Mercedes will beat this Manthey Racing GT2RS on a dry track. The upcoming Project One will then downright pulverize Porsche's records.

How I drive home on my Friday afternoon commute.
Impressed how far back from the major curves he brakes and how early through the corners the green bar comes up, hitting the gas, no wonder my GranTurismo times are slow! And still not a “production” car.
WoW never seen a video before where I could practically feel the car sliding. Watching him back it in to the apex and save the slide on the throttle is mind bending.

Real racers know straight line speed doesn’t mean that much with cars, drag racing however is a very skilled and cool industry, but track time is the true measure of a car.

Great observation. Transferring the weight of the car more onto the front tyres (by braking) just before steering creates more grip.
This was traditionally quite important in the old rear engined 911s and clearly is relevant today in the new cars.

Porsche is apparently fitting soft compound tires that are illegal on the street for this. The other supercars like the McLaren, Lambo, and AMG used completely road legal tires. Porsche keeps taking the top spot because Lars Kern is a prodigy on the track or they fit the soft compound tires not for street legal use. Place Lars Kern in the McLaren or place soft compounds on the McLaren and the Porsche would be defeated or at a near tie.
We also have to consider that the Nurb is a German track and Porsche is engineered and designed in close proximity to the Nurburgring as such the cars can be more effectively engineered to match the properties of said track because they have more opportunities to test there using less money for logistics. Place a Lambo or McLaren engineering facility in Germany with easier more cost effective access to engineer around the principles of the Nurb and their times would be lower. Heck Kenny Brack barely had racing experience on the Nurb in his career if any and still managed to be only 5 seconds of in the McLaren. Lars Kern on the other hand is probably the most well acquainted driver as he has significant experience on the Nurb in his pro racing career. Meaning that those 5 seconds are mostly all driver.
Basically Porsche is blessed by having sole access to great driver with plenty of Nurb laps under his belt in addition to possibly using soft compound tires not for street legal use.
