thanks. the average person is out here all alone battling against insurance companies with a huge team of lawyers. it's an unfair fight so this helps a little.

A few weeks before the accident, I just had the starter rebuilt , costing a bit more than $500.. I am glad to know this because once I had that repair done, the ol car was running like a champ even with 200k miles on it!

Sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, there is no adding value for sentimental reasons.

Florida is a no-fault state, which means that each driver's insurance company is responsible for covering their own policyholder's losses, regardless of fault. What if you don't want to get the car fixed & pay $1000 deductible. And they said they'll keep the car if I don't want to fix it. Now what do I do? God bless you.

No fault in the sense that you don't have to try to chase down the other person's insurance company to get your car fixed. HOWEVER...if you do know the other person's insurance, you are going to want to go through them because you won't have to pay the deductible. The deductible provision only applies to your own policy, it doesn't apply to the other person's coverage. If your dealing with only your own insurance company, and the damage to your car is over $1000, they are going to have to pay you for the cost of the damage, less the $1000, whether yo get it fixed or not.

Older cars in excellent condition are rare, so they'll only offer you HALF the value of your car, BECAUSE they use distressed cars that are NOT comparable and treat them as the same as your car - everyone should KNOW a car in outstanding condition is worth more than a "parts car" ready for sale as a salvaged or wreaked vehicle. DO NOT accept their comps, but deliver your own comps of similar cars for sale by private sales lots - demand they pay you for the condition of your vehicle!!!

That's a lie you, can't tell your insurance company to put OEM parts on your car, read your policy, instead of listening to this mess

Of course you can. We are all capable of negotiating, it's just of matter of being willing to do so.
