  • I thought I would film this little video to chat to you about why I called this channel Lost Arts of Nature, and to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who has joined me here! I am so happy that you are here! It has been so lovely to connect with everyone who left comments on my last video. I was really happy to see how many people were interested in drop spinning! There's nothing more I love to do than cozy up in front of the woodburner with some rolags and my drop spindle, watching all the colours blend together as I spin. There is just one Drop Spinning Kit left in my Etsy shop at the time of publishing this video, so if you would like one, pop over and grab it. I will be re-stocking them but it won't be for another week or so at least.

    And to those of you who signed up to Patreon, a big THANK YOU! Joining me there helps me to keep producing videos here. So if you feel inclined to take a look, here is the link:

    Just yesterday I published a little update on the book I am currently reading "The Clan of the Cave Bear", and today (Friday) there is a behind-the-scenes glimpse into making wool fairies and packing up drop spinning kits.
    You can also catch me on Instagram where I post about all the things I get up to here at Lost Arts of Nature:

    Hi Marie. I'm also a smallholder on 14 acres in Nth Cumbria. Started from just rank pasture, it's now woodland and orchard and I'm about to coppice my second 'cant' of sweet chestnut for building and firewood.....exhausting and heavy work, so I have to make sure my woodstove's banked up for regular breaks. I do wattle&daub as you'll find in your book, as I've clay, sand, hay and hazel in abundance. The old skills need revival urgently as there's big changes on the way. Keep making videos 🙏

      @spindelnett6315 so lovely to read your comment, and I absolutely agree. It's so important to keep these skills going. Sounds like you have a wonderful place! I'd love to do some wattle and daub one day. And yes woodstoves! We find it is a constant job to keep the firewood flowing! My husband recently did a coppicing and green woodworking course locally with Coppicewood College. He learnt so much which we now apply to our own little patch of forest. It's such an honour to be a guardian of woodland. So glad you're here ✨️

    Yes, John Seymour books are great! There are so many similar books out there, but I have really enjoyed the Foxfire series of books. I think they’re from the 1970’s, but full of so much how to projects. Thank you for this video! Oh, I love that scarf you have on. Could you share the pattern or tell me a little about how to make it. I would greatly appreciate it!!!

    Your last video was wonderful. I've been hand spinning for nearly 20 years and I think your last video was one of the best explanations of how to use a drop spindle I have ever seen. I look forward to following the channel and all your fibre arts adventures.

    Hello Marie! So happy to see you are going to do a video on plying the wool yarn. I have been practicing every day on getting the hang of it on the amount of twist for spinning. I made myself some spindles out of some dowels and wood circles to put my spun yarn on. I have gotten 2 spools of yarn ready to ply and I’m going to wait for your video before I do it. The yarn I made isn’t perfect but I’m going to crochet something for myself as I learn this new skill I have always wanted to learn. Have a Wonderful weekend! 🥰

    I've read John Seymour books for years too. I've not had the opportunity to have a small holding but am now happily helping to run a community garden in Suffolk. I'm enjoying your videos and am looking forward to watching your journey. 😊

    Hi Marie, what a wonderful story. I remember reading John Seymour many years ago, although we don't have land we do try to do as much ourselves as possible. I am very much enjoying your videos and patiently await more. I am going to have a try at wet felting. Best wishes Jenny

      Oh great that you will have a go at wet-felting! That is what I will be doing today too. Wool is so versatile isn't it? That's why I love working with it so much. So glad to connect with you, and very grateful to have you here ✨️🍂

    Hi Marie! From one fiber artist to another it's so nice to find your channel :) I'm a spinner too but never was able to master the drop spindle, I just went to a wheel and found it to be easier to learn for me. I look forward to seeing what you create in the future.

    • @lostartsofnature6113
      @lostartsofnature6113  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello there! So interesting to hear about your experiences. The wheel and the spindle are two different creatures aren't they? Despite having so many similarities, they are quite different to use. I have enjoyed both, but I do love that drop spinning is so portable. So glad to have you here! ✨️
