England. I really like these no nonsense tutorials. No hyped up flashy images and stupid talk. Just clear instructions. You have my vote and sub. Excellent Thank You
Straight forward. No nonsense and at the same time made no assumptions. All basics are explained and all terms as well. Not like some tutorials which hop around where only the lecturer knows where they are.
@@EllensTipsForiOS Thank you! I loved the video. Could you please explain the pros and cons of the different choices? I chose Allow Once randomly just in order to move past the set up screen. ha Also, I couldn't find ANYTHING on it online that made any clear sense.
Hi S.P., if you have location services turned on all the time it’s likely to drain your battery. I usually choose while using app so it turns off when I’m finished using the app. Hope that helps.
@@EllensTipsForiOS THank you so much! one more question Please - Since I chose "allow once" during set up, I can't find where to change it to "while using app" Could let me know? thanks again!! ( i have an iPhone 14 with the latest update iOS 16.1.2)
Hi S.P. Go to Settings>Privacy and Security> Location Services below you should see a list of all of your apps. You can go through them and see which ones are using “while using app” and you can make any changes. Hope that helps.
I believe you’re talking about the sharing your location feature. If someone shares their location with you then you should be able to see them live in the Find My app.
I know it has been some time since you recorded this but I am interested in how someone (Wife) could find my device if I lost it and had no way to find it??
Hi Faye! So the person you’re trying to locate has shared their location with you? If they have it’s possible that they have hidden their location from you on their device. If that’s not the issue have you tried restarting your iPhone? If I’m not understanding the problem could you please give me more info?
If someone factory resets it -- and re-installs the OS from scratch -- after stealing it, is it still lockable and can you still ping it causing that loud sound?
Hi Ellen, You probably get asked this all the time, but were you a school teacher at one time? You do a wonderful job with these videos. Also, they are definitely great for anyone Who wants to learn more about their Apple products. Anyway, i’m trying to get my wife to use this feature with her mother who is 88 years old. My mother-in-law has an iPhone and does well with texting. But, she often misplaces her phone and sometimes she leads to phone at home which makes me nuts because I want her to have it with her in case of an emergency. I was telling my wife about the different features and I would love for her to be able to keep track of her mom when she does have her phone with her and also when she travels by herself to different states to visit relatives. So, I’m definitely working on that. Also, I think I’m right on this but maybe you can correct me if I’m wrong. If my wife and mother-in-law do sync up with the friendship option for better words, then they can keep track of each other, correct? Also, if one of them loses their phone they would be able to see it on the others find my? Now, my wife and I have been separated for the last three years after 38 years of marriage. We are still best friends and text and talk every day. Just putting that out there for my next question… Now, if I were to miss placed my phone or it was stolen and I was not at home I guess I could still track it from my Apple Watch? I have every Apple product under the sun. Thank you for your videos. I just got done watching another one and have another question and I’m trying to think what it is… Oh, I just got done watching the one about the Apple Watch and saving the battery life. I did change some settings after watching that video and of course gave it a thumbs up. I think what is most irritating about Siri is that when I’m sitting here in the evening and I have my iPhone, my brand new iPad Pro and my watch on if I ask Serie A question all three of them go off, lol! So I think I just fix the Apple Watch by turning off the one feature you suggested and now I have to bring it up to my mouth/bring my wrist up for surgery to respond which is great. How about the iPhone and the iPad going off together? I always wanna have my iPhone Siri on because I use that even when I’m in another room I can talk to Siri if Siri isn’t making me unlock my phone first to answer a simple question. OK, I’ll stop rambling. Thank you so much for your wonderful videos. I love when people take things that can be difficult and break it down so that the average person can understand what is being taught easily. You’re doing a wonderful job. You can call me chessdude or my name is Tim . greetings from Ohio. 👍🏻👍🏻🙏
Thanks Tim for all your comments. You guessed right that at one time I was a teacher. I left teaching to become a Respiratory Therapist! Siri should pick up the closest device or you could turn it off on your iPad as well. Yes your wife should be able to keep track of her Mothers location. I really appreciate your support!
Yes, you can track the iPhone if the SIM card is removed. The only requirement is that the device is connected to the internet through Wi-Fi or another cellular network. As soon as the phone is online, its GPS coordinates will be shared with the Apple server. As a result, the phone's previous owner can perceive the location through their iCloud account. That means you can track the phone without a SIM as long as the Find My iPhone is on.
Hi Ann! I think you would need to be using the same Apple ID to see it permanently. Here’s how to locate someone else’s device if it’s lost or stolen using FindMy: How to Help a Friend Find Their iPhone 1. Open the Find My app. 2. Select Me from the options on the bottom of the screen. 3. Tap Help a Friend at the very bottom. This will open iCloud.com. ... 4. Have your friend sign in to iCloud using their Apple ID to see their devices. ... 5. Select the device they are looking for.
Lots of information here to unpack. Words appeared in the upper right of the screen about the air tag controversy-do you still feel comfortable using yours? Also, when your lost device uses Bluetooth when near another apple device to reveal location, do you mean it can be near anyone’s apple device (even a stranger’s) since the info is encrypted?
Connection pending …what does that mean ? After a few minutes it turns off…my iPhone is somewhere on my property …outside , lost while is was weeding garden …if it does not sound there is no way I will find it…I assume I will carry the iPad around hoping it will sound…
Hey Ellen. I have been trying to deactivate the HIDE MY EMAIL option completely and I just cant seem to get it. I watched the video and Ive done everything you said but no Deactvate comes up for me. Ive not used any unknown email addresses. What Im trying to get rid of is when my canned auto fill info comes up it used to list my two emails. Now it lists one and the other one as “HIDE MY EMAIL” so I have to sit there and type it in by hand instead of just being able to use autofill. Help me please. Its driving me crazy
Hi Lisa, this is driving a lot of people crazy from what I can tell. There really isn’t a good way to turn this off, it’s a feature. You could try going to Settings>Safari>Auto-fill>toggle off Contact info. But then your contact information isn’t abled to be used for filling out forms. When you start typing in the first few letters of your email address it should replace the “Hide My Email” above the keyboard with the email address you want to use.Maybe Apple will give us another option in a future update. Sorry there isn’t a better way!
When following my wife while she is driving home from the cottage the find my app doesn’t always show where she is in real time. There is sometimes a two minute delay then it jumps ahead to where she actually is. Why is this happening. Thanks.
