Thanks for finally explaining this password app in a way that I can understand. And I appreciate that you didn’t rush through the information like so many others! I’m looking forward to more info from you about other tech issues.
How to you point your phone camera at the we code when you are using the phone to set it up? I don’t have other Apple devices that I can use. iPhone is it. Thx
Thanks you Ellen for this clip most helpful, IOS 18 can confusing & overwhelming, I' ll have to rewatch a few more times but this makes it way easier 😊 magalo
Thanks for this, Ellen. I'm going to set up the Passwords app on my iPhone. Is it possible to sync this information with my iPad and Mac laptop? All are up to date with latest versions.
I'm missing something here. If I use the add a password function and tell it to generate a strong password for a specific website, how does it sync the new password with that website? I.e., if I have a current password for my email account and want to add it to the Password app, it seems to me that I'd have to add the actual current password and not the strong one that the Password app can generate. Could you please advise as to what I'm missing here? Thanks.
Hi Bob if you add the password in the app it syncs across your devices. If you add a password from the website it will be added to the Passwords app and sync across your devices.
@@EllensTipsForiOS Thanks for the quick reply Ellen, but I guess my question wasn't clear. I'm not asking how the password syncs across my devices. I get that part. I'm asking how having the Password app creating a strong new password allows me to log into a website that still has an earlier not-so-stong password. E.g., if my email account password is "12345" and then I allow the Password app to generate one like "496%pSg5h$17", how does that enable me to log into my email account that still expects "12345"?
Sorry Bob, if you create it on the app you would need to change it on the website. If you’re setting up a new password and create it on the website you should have the option to add it to the passwords app. Hope that helps.
@@EllensTipsForiOS thanks for clarifying! I had the exact same question, I have a little book full of about 100 different sites passwords so that means I have to change all of them, ugh! Sounds like a lot of work
Hi Ellen, Have just discovered your videos & really appreciate them. I have a question similar to the one asked about Dashlane. I currently use Last Pass password manager. Can I export those passwords to the Password App? If so, how? Thanks for your help.
For some reason the website icons aren’t showing next to my passwords. The website field is filled in along with everything else. I’m running the latest version of iOS and have tried restarting my phone and the app
Hi Ellen, thank you for great information. I use the Dashlane app to save my passwords, is there any way to transfer all those passwords to the new Passwords App in IOS18 or would I have to do each website individually. Also am I better off cancelling Dashlane and using passwords IOS18 to save the monthly fee. Thank you.
Good morning Ellen, After the Passwords APP changes a password for a website, do you also have to change it manually on the website itself ?. Thanks in advance, your videos are great !👍👍👍
How does the new Passwords app work with multiple devices with different operating systems? I have a new phone with OS 18 but an older iMax that has uses the older Keychain.
You would have to copy and paste the passwords with different operating systems. I’m not sure what happens when you have passwords in Keychain and passwords in the new Passwords app. Sorry 😞
@ what I mean is some off my different passwords for various apps I forgot,so can I go on passwords app to lock up some of my passwords? We all forget some of them.We all have to many
- If you have 6 or more 2FA set up in one of the 2FA apps like Authy, Google, or Microsoft, how do you move, whatever it is you move, from there to Passwords? or do you at all? Confused. - Also, moving forward, what would the process be to set up 2FA with Passwords when you encounter a new one you want to use (not all logins use 2FA but allow you to add or eventually require it)? Somehow, incredibly, I did this with one account. With the US government!
@ i didn't even press autofill, should the apps be connected to icloud for the passwords to appear in the app? I keep my infos in notes that's why, I'm not sure if this is necessary. Still I need your opinion in this please
If you want your passwords to sync across your devices they need iCloud turned on. The passwords app is very secure. Much more so than a notebook. If you want the app to autofill your passwords then it should be turned on. Hope that helps.
how to make autofill to work??? i need to press on user name ..then go to this damn app to copy user name the again come back and copy damn pass.... this is ridicules ... can you help me?
Hi Leona, can you try going to Settings>scroll and tap on Apps>Now scroll and tap on Passwords> scroll to the bottom tap on view autofill settings now make sure the Passwords switch is toggled on. I have that toggled on and never need to open the app to fill in Passwords. Hope that helps.
@@EllensTipsForiOS thank you, it is not an app, it is web site and it is not visible in apps... it worked before update perfectly , maybe i need do delete it and do everything all over again ?
@@EllensTipsForiOS it is a web site,it is not visible in apps so this did not worked... I saved it on chrome , this was the only option for me ...before update it worked perfectly ... thank you for your time you lovely lady 😘
I use it on websites every day. Is it just one website or all of them?? If it’s just one they may be preventing the use of Autofill. If it’s all websites you need to make sure that Autofill is turned on by following my previous instructions. Sorry you’re having trouble.
What happens when you forget to update your little black as most people do?? Plus if anyone gets access to your black book they have everything. So not real security.
It’s a nightmare! My phone tells me 10 times a day to update and everyone says don’t do it. If Apple goes on like this I’m going to junk it and go to some other phone. The new stuff on iPhone 18 is rubbish but it damaged your battery etc etc. it may not be as bad as the new Jaguar but I’m staying with IOS 17! How could they have brought this rubbish out! Shame on Apple!
You are so empathetic to seniors God bless you!

You're welcome Ronald! Thanks for watching.
May i ask Ellen, what if your phone gets stolen , couldn’t they hack into the password app? Great video by the way.
Great question Audrey! Hopefully you have your iPhone password protected and are using FaceID.

No it should be changed if you did it at the website and saved to the passwords app.

How would this work for a person who regularly uses an iPhone while away from home and a non-IOS desktop at home?
It would work great on the iPhone but you would need to access the passwords on your iPhone and input them into your computer at home.
I just noticed the app.I have so many passwords and sometimes forget.Am I able to go on app in case I forget a password?
Not sure I understand your question??

Very true! If you save them in the Passwords app you’ll be able to find them anytime you need.
Is there a way of seeing each password saved, just in case e.g. you move from apple?
Sorry I should have shown that. Yes just tap into the password field and you will see the Password written out.
Thank you Ellen, that’s much appreciated

HinEllen..did I miss how to reject the suggested password ?
Yes you did Marion. The only way to reject the password is to start over. Hopefully Apple will change that in an update.
Not being to regenerate a password if you aren't happy with the one that was generated is one of my biggest gripes with the app.
Couldn’t agree more!

I don’t think Netflix would appreciate people sharing passwords.
Well if you live in the same household and have multiple TV’s it should be just fine Ray. Netflix already has guards up to prevent it.
Detailed video, but sharing passwords is never a good idea. I am sure Netflix appreciates using them as an example of a password to share.😮
There are such things as family plans! Sharing your passwords with family is perfectly okay.
Isn't this dangerous, all passwords could be Hacked?
Not dangerous at all. More secure than keeping your passwords in a Notebook.
I’m outdated. I still use my real memory and a little hidden real black book. Outdated but unhackable. But I guess that’s real security.
