That photo of the future Edward 8th caused such a stir because previously all British royals had only been seen in formal clothing. To see a royal in sportswear was like seeing one in a bikini today as happened to the current Princess of Wales when she got papped on a private holiday.. The public loved Edward’s sporttswear. It fitted the rebellious vibe of the flapper generation.
The day my husband is up for wearing a vest like this, I will be on it! You did such a great job! 👏 I have a few patterns, but I can't convince him that he needs one haha I might just make one preemptively and wear it myself like a dress 😂 Vintage knitting is incredibly satisfying 😊 Susan Crawford does a lot of reproduction vintage if you ever want to make another vest or pullover. She has a Shetland book that has a lot of 1920s inspiration
Me, waiting with bated breath to see what book this incredible book comes from…and I realize…I have the very book sitting in a pile of library borrows that I haven’t dug into yet! 😂
This is such a cool project, and I love how you filmed at different stages of it!! I love that you went all in on making a project just like your vision and the final product looks great ☺
So excited that you made this vest for your husband! Have wanted one since seeing it in Rutt's History of Knitting. Would you consider a summer update vid after the party to show your outfits?
Of course! I’m not sure we are going this year but we will definitely at some point. I will probably make the pants too. Thank you for the nice comment!
Really enjoyed this video! The vest looks beautiful. I can't believe this doesn't have more views. How did you find the texture of the yarn to knit with? I guess softness is less important with something like this as you would always be wearing a layer underneath it and it won't have to touch your skin as much as normal sweater.
Thank you! Palette is a bit on the rougher side, definitely not for next to skin, but it’s durable and warm while at the same time making a thin fabric, so I think it’s good for this type of project. It was also really good for knitting colorwork, I had an easy time with the tension.
Lovely video! ❤ If you’re interested in knitting similar styles, I recommend looking into Susan Crawford’s work. She updates vintage patterns with great size range and design some as well

I've yet to try colourwork but this video was very insightful and fun to watch, thanks for sharing your experience! The vest looks great.

In Europe it's also called a spencer (vest)
So stunning!!! Especially for you first time ❤❤❤
Thank you for taking us in this journey! Its so satisfying to watch from start to end
That’s gorgeous! I’m so curious to check out the book to see what else is in it…

What a wonderful achievement....tks 4 sharing
I have been daydreaming about a vest like this, I added to cart so quick! You've inspired me to also give steeking a try❤
It's beautiful! Great job. I'm impressed with all of it, and it makes me want to try. I think my big hurdle would be color selection.
That is absolutely gorgeous! You did a wonderful job. First time here, and you earned my sub just in the intro with the history lesson. Thank you
It was a really interesting video! A full circle for sure. Beautiful vest, colours looks spot on 🤩

Beautiful work!! You did a fantastic job. Colorwork scares me so I really admire people that are able to do it (and do it so well)
You should’ve seen the first color work hat I made! It wouldn’t even fit ! It’s just a matter of repetition and perseverance :)
