I could never unravel so much work but I am a slow knitter. But also I love that sweater on you 😊

In Iceland this is the most common way to make open sweaters. But usually we do one or two reverse stitches (don't know what they are called in English) where you want to cut the sweater later. Then we sew two lines on the reverse stitches and cut between the sewn lines. Then you can turn them in and either sew a ribben on the inside or crochet over the new opening. Then you can sew in a zipper or sew on buttons if you have made butten holes either while knitting or crocheting 😊

How to crochet lol. Only because I am left handed and crochet left handed but knit right handed, and I find it difficult when I try to hold my yarn left handed and knit. I'll get there one day lol 😁😂

As a crocheter(formally) that I could've used TH-cam to teach myself knitting. I learned in 2008 by a wonderful teacher and haven't stopped since.

I figured this out on my own when I was in high school. I learned to knit continental when I was 5, so had to learn English style while knitting my Norwegian sweater.
