    I wish I wouldn't have bought so much cheap acrylic yarn when I was a brand new knitter, but I kinda went yarn crazy. Now I have all this yarn sitting here bc I don't wanna make anything with it and I pretty much exclusively use wool or cotton these days. I think it's better to invest in a smaller amount of good quality yarn than just buying as much cheaper yarn as possible, for me at least.

    The bouclè yarn seems to be a bulky weight (right?) and have the exact composition of the recommended yarn for the Sugarplum Jumper by Fabel Knitwear, except for being bouclè, of course. But I wonder how this would influence the design. I had a bit of troubling meeting gauge with that one, but I absolutely love my finished project, and it was super quick to knit. If you have someone in your family that would like that design and this color, well, it's a match made in heaven

    It doesn’t bother me that people connect knitting with grannies. I’m lucky to have been taught by my mother, who was taught by her mother, who was taught by her mother, and so on. For me it makes me feel connected to the women in my family throughout the generations. I still have a sweater that my grandmother made for me when I was a toddler and my daughter wore it too.

    I like your comments. Two topics I wanted to toss my two cents into the pot on. 1. Men were the first knitter's. All of the knitting guilds in the UK and Europe were men only until after the 1950s. Those beautiful chullo hats from Peru that tourists clamor over are largely knitted by boys and young men. There are tons of stories of our soldiers knitting their own hats and socks from old and or holey yarn to prevent losing their feet and ears. It's only in recent times, in this neck of the woods (world) decided that only women, OLD women knit. So the more I see men and young peeps knitting it public the more my heart warms. 2. Crocheting isn't knitting with a hook. BUT Tunisian Crochet comes closer to that. We've had knitting machines for hundreds of years. To date there's not a machine that can crochet. I think that does make it more special in that way. Other than that it depends on the project on which is the better choice. Hats, scarves, sweaters can go either way. Socks should be knitted since they can move with your feet, crocheted fabric can't do that. If it's bigger than a baby blanket I'm not knitting that! I'll crochet it and be done in 25-% of the time. Lol. weavers, spinners, crocheters and knitters are all in the fiber family.... We can all work together.

    • @theknityorker
      @theknityorker 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I know that crochet isn’t knitting with a hook, I’m a crocheter myself. I was talking about language, in Spanish we say “tejido con gancho” more often than we say “crochet” and that translates as knitting with a hook, it doesn’t mean that’s what you do literally.

    Oh, I loved this video! I always dislike when people tell me things like "I can never do that", because usually it's a prelude to like, "so can you make this for me?" I think that you hit the nail on the head when you said that knitting is seen as a women's hobby, and so I think people don't put a lot of value on it, until they see the results unfortunately :(
