    Steve those leaks are the possible reason that control relay went bad. Sad that she did not get those leaks fixed . If the control relay goes bad again it will be a call back on you. I hope you documented that the water leaks could cause electrical issues and motor issues. Writing down customer declined repairs .I enjoy your videos . Keep up the great work!

      Hey Steve, maybe an idea for a new vlog is to talk about how you keep track of customers (database?) and their payments and maybe if there's been any dead beats in the past?

    Hate to be cheeessy, well maybe I strive to be.. But why check the cad cell if the motor dosen't even start to begin with? Dosen't the flame or lack of kill the motor with Cad Cell? So it needs to be firing to be checked as a cad cell problem right?

    • @notajp
      @notajp 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can actually check the cad cell with a strong light and an ohmmeter. Alternatively, you can just jump the FF terminals on the primary.

    • @bucklevify
      @bucklevify 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the cad cell is bad it will prevent the relay from allowing the burner to start.. alternatively he could have just pulled one off the cad cell wires off the ff on the control and if it started it’s a cad cell if not then it’s the control but a cad cell can definitely prevent a burner from firing

    That motor will be seized soon. You can hear it straining. Not your fault, you informed the customer and that’s all you can do. At least you got her up and running again! Next level!

    Question Sir? Ran out of fuel, Got fuel, Didn't restart. Changed the filter. Starts up but it's not drawing any fuel and wont fire. Nothing bleeds out. Tank is underground. Am I missing a step in priming the boiler? Should I fill the filter assembly with fuel? Thanks in advance.

    My Beckett runs fine an I had it tuned and vacuumed. The relay keeps tripping boiler off and when I push the button to the relay boiler starts running perfectly for a while then later trips out again. Is it a bad relay? PS I changed the cad cell eye for a new one

    Steven, i have an issue with a Beckett boiler (service man came and serviced it but wanted a ridiculous amount to change the igniter) so with your Videos i changed it myself today. It started and after 1min it shutoff and could not start again - any other suggestions? I was thinking of this video (change the Protector relay). I know its getting power so just confused now as what else can it be...

    Used to work on down fired GE boilers and the heat from the chamber would melt and short the cad cell wires. I used to test them on a call by just removing one of the wires going to ff. If it started it was the cad cell. Otherwise it was the primary control.

    oh man, i never could understand this thinking. When i called out a service call for my Boiler, i knew it needed a new Cad cell. I just was busy with work and couldnt find a place that would sell me less than 5 or 10 packs online. I do have a wood burner, so i was ok without oil heat for a few days if i could get a single. The tech diagnosed it, changed it and said i should also change out my filters and nozzle. Also, i had a valve that i knew was dripping that was to drain the line. I had planned on replacing it this spring when it warmed up. But, i already payed MR. HVAC Tech $150 just for the visit minimum 1hr and this was like 20min in. I handed him the parts and said go ahead and while your here change w/e u think needs done. He also ended up changing the fill valve and pressure release. I spent another $250 ontop but, the job is done, i dont need to make time to do it and i will not have to pay him another $150 if those valves take a shit before i get to them.

    Steve-o, 👍 thumb-up for excellence service, but you could've ohmed the cad cell before changing it correct?
    And at the end of your video when you had inspected the boiler vent termination outside, you pointed out the combustion air opening for the boiler, isn't there a rule for minimum distance between mechanical exhaust and combustion air opening?
    We have a 6 feet rule for this..

    Tighter than 2 coats of paint cost more in the long run. Instead of letting you change the motor while you were there now she will have to pay for another Service call. I told a customer of mine before her furnace was junk and needed to be replaced ASAP. She refused. She left for the weekend and came home to a house full of smoke and soot.

    Mine keeps shutting off but after 20-30 minutes unlike that one where it’s shutting off instantly so im guessing its not the control and most likely the cat cell is getting dirty. Thanks for the video

    My oil furnace one day stopped working, doesn't start. Oil pressure ok. But I changed the oil filter and nozzle. Again oil pressure ok. Again oil furnace doesn't start. Check the spark it's ok. Again oil furnace won't start. Check the peephole to see if I’m getting spark, no spark. Replace the cad cell and transformer. But I get a spark when I took the nozzle/electrode out of the burner head. So I left the peephole open, guess what? The furnace started. This is completely the opposite of what the cad cell does. I double-check the cad cell, high resistance with no light, low resistance with light. Again cad cell is brand new. The oil furnace only starts with the peephole open, then I close the peephole and it runs great, very smooth. But won’t start up the next time the thermostats want heat on. What’s going on???

    I watch a lot of your videos, you show your work but don’t teach much for beginners. For someone not ever working on these or working on them a little it’s hard to know why you do what you do or what sequence your checking or following. Good home video though but would be cool to hear you walk ppl through what your doing and why, would be super helpful.

    Who wouldn't fix a water leak while they have the HVAC guy there to fix it? Crazy. I can maybe understand the motor. It might run another 20 years but a leak is only going to get worse and worse.

      People will ignore the problems and just limp along until it's no heat on a Saturday night at 11:00PM and then they're lucky to find somebody to come out. A little education of the customer by the tech on cause and effect (e.g: leaks fall on controls which ruins control which leaves customer without heat.) I always keep my burner in good shape and have essential spare parts to fit it.
