    Speaker Bio:
My involvement with Viticulture and Enology did not begin until after I had retired from the U.S. Government in 1993,but not until 1997 when osteoarthritis stopped short my principal activities of running, tennis, golf, biking ... It was then that I decided to plant grape vines on a parcel of land next to my home in Carlsbad. I realized very soon that
some formal training would be helpful. Having graduated from UCLA with a double major in Political Science and Oriental Languages and a masters program at American University in Communist Chinese Affairs --neither of which would help me with
winegrowing, my attention was directed toward U.C. Davis where I have taken classes in Viticulture and Enology. Locally, I have taken classes with Dick Colangelo, an Associate Faculty member at MiraCosta College, who helped me develop a better understanding of the wines of the world. I learned to make wine under the direction of Lum Eisenman, who also instructed at MiraCosta College and who has taught most of the winemakers in San Diego County. I was an Associate Faculty member at MiraCosta College and taught Vineyard Development and Management in their Horticulture Department. Currently I present viticulture seminars at the Grangettos stores in Escondido and Fallbrook and am assisting CSU San Marcos develop a Viticulture & Enology program.
