  • Red Copper Mug is a travel mug that doesn't tip over and doesn't spill. Today I put those claims to the test.

    I use this product and I actually bought it by mistake- I ran into Walgreens in a hurry and needed a mug- when I got to my desk at work and unpackaged it and read up on it- I was impressed. I actually went back to Walgreens a couple of days later and bought another one for my daughter as her water mug at school because of the anti- tip feature...THEN, I went back to get another one because I wanted one for my coffee/tea and one specific for my cold water...BUT hmm. I’ve had this item for 4 months now as my main mug. I love how it keeps my ice cold and intact ALL day- BUT after 4months of using this it no longer will keep my water cold as promised.. when I initially got it, I would fill with ice at 7a and at 4:30 when I got off work I would still have ice- that’s is- GOOD ice! NOW, ice not water will stay cold, my ice melts and the water is warm or room temp if it sits all day. I’ll have to test the coffee now- I normally will drink my coffee within an hour and still hot- but as far as this mug holding up the ice and keeping my water and ice cold-- IT HAS FAILED THE TEST!!!! If this product is guaranteed to last- I need to reach out to red copper and let them know the same thing I’m posting here.. thanks for the awesome review.. but, do another review and see if it still holds up to what it’s suppose to do- at least mine didn’t..

    My personal favorite tumblers are Tervis. They're honestly pretty amazing to me. I can fill a full 24 oz cup with ice and water and still have _cold_ water about 4-8 hours later (time obviously dependent on external conditions like weather).
    Another great thing is that the minimal sweating. About the only time I've noticed they sweat is when it's _really_ humid. Even then, it's nowhere near as bad as a normal cup. It's just a very thin layer of condensation and doesn't completely soak a paper towel if placed under it even if it's been sitting there for _hours._
    They're also pretty shatter resist unlike a lot of other double-insulated plastic tumblers.

    I didn't know what it was like to have a favorite mug or cup. I am convinced it is the best of any others around.
    I've owned one for 2years now. (2mugs, 1st one stolen) The slimmer design and the lid. I actually carry mine in my purse 👜. Even a year later the lid holds. You just have to make sure you close it right.
    You taste only your drink all day.
    Now my second one has disappeared,so I'm on here to get a couple more.

    Great review. Because of your review I went out and bought one. Actually I bought 2 because I was at one of the 50 Walgreen's in my town (jk) and they had them on clearance for $4.99. I'm thinking about going back and buying the last two they had. Took the mug out of the box and just had to start punching it. I couldn't believe that it wouldn't tip over and I was really punching this thing.

      Charlie Beagle yeah it works great. Doesn't spill and doesn't tip. I pulled it out and started punching it and it didn't go anywhere. I tried the ice test and I still had the majority of the ice after 16 and a half hours. Worth the money for sure.

    I really like this mug. Sometimes I get mocha coffee and it is easier to clean the chocolate residue after because of the cereamic coating on the inside. Although, since it is so tall it can be difficult to use under some coffee machines like my Classic K50 Kureg. I have to fill a caraf up first to fill up my red copper mug after.

    One thing not mentioned, is how well it fits your hand, and even when full it is pretty balanced, and never top heavy. Oh and if you use carbonated drinks in it, if you keep the lid closed on it, it doesn't go flat. Great for beer and soda.

    You can extend the hot and cold holding time of any thermal mug by tempering it before you add your beverage. If your beverage is hot while the coffee or tea brews pour boiling water in the mug and close it up. When your beverage is ready, dump out the boiling water and add your beverage. Prep it for cold by keeping it in the refrigerator for an hour or two before adding your beverage. It is simple thermodynamics.

    Looks like a good product. Only losing 40 degrees after 6 hours is pretty good and you could probably have gotten even better results if you'd preheated the mug with hot water first. As for the icecube thing, what they didn't tell you is how cold the ice cubes were when they went in. Many commercial freezers can get much colder than the usual for home consumer ones and if they really wanted to cheat, chilling the cubes down in liquid nitrogen would have made it even less likely they'd have melted at all. The sad part is they didn't have to exagerate the capabilities. definitely going to pick one of these up.

    • @BloodStainedTear
      @BloodStainedTear 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      CrimFerret You'll enjoy it.. however if you are using it for hot beverages remember the colder the environment the more rapidly the beverage will lose heat but if you just leave it at room temperature it lives up to its claims

    There's one test you didn't do. It's almost impossible to do with any mug or tumbler. How well does it sit in a cup holder test? I own six different mug's or tumblers. All because every time I rent another car, the cup holders are different. Some have nubs on the side. While others either have rubber inserts or nothing at all.
    Is there a way to test it?

    • @reptileguardian941
      @reptileguardian941 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      briteidea08 - since its spill proof, I'm going to go ahead and say that if it doesn't fit in your cup holder, just stick it somewhere like in between an arm rest.

    • @briteidea08

    Anyway, not sure what u paid for it. But I picked up a stainless bottle from Walmart for $5 made by Tal. It's leak proof. Durable (I know cause it's hit the floor plenty of times at work). Insulated very well and 24oz. I wanted to bring some cold tea to work with me in the morning. The tea was still hot so I poured it in and stuck it in the fridge overnight. Grabbed it on my way out the door the next morning and took a swig in the truck. ALMOST BURNED MY FREAKING TONGUE OFF!! The outside was ice cold but the contents were still blazing hot AFTER being in fridge all night. The downside: it tips over very easy. Also, it's a bottle not a mug, so I can't really get in there easily to clean the inside.Had to buy a bottle brush cause every once in a while I'd get a drink and it would have a sour smell. Haven't had that problem since getting the brush.

    • @ExpressionlessAnger
      @ExpressionlessAnger 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The other problem is that the liner is stainless steel. Depending on the quality of the steel, it can add a metallic taste to acidic drinks. That's the major reason I'd consider this mug. I really prefer a ceramic or glass liner because it's totally inert and smooth. That's one of the reason lab containers are usually glass or ceramic.

    What exactly is on the bottom of the mug to make it tip proof? Is it a suction cup or what?

    • @Freakinreviews
      @Freakinreviews  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It looks like a suction ring with holes in the center.

    • @FormerRuling
      @FormerRuling 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Old comment but in case someone is looking yes it's just suction and you'll notice the bottom has a little give to it, so that when you lift up the bottom moves and breaks the air seal.

    • @ExpressionlessAnger
      @ExpressionlessAnger 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it'sjust a suction cup, which means that it only works on non-porous very smooth surfaces. For example, it would not work on exposed wood or textured surfaces.

    Thank you for this product review.
    I had spent a year trying out travel mugs, and even the best quality "spillproof" lids leaked. Plus, merely after a week or two of daily use, the lids progressively increased loss of liquid. I would baby these containers, and hand washed them to reduce wear & tear.
    I gave up and settled for an 18 oz Contigo brand double wall stainless steel set of mugs that were the least leakiest of them all.
    Although I loved fairy tales as a little girl, I felt like I was in an adult Goldilocks or Snow White (mirror, mirror) scenario.
    Surely this shouldn't be rocket science to build an effective travel mug...?
    I also dislike the metallic taste, but glass containers are not allowed for my work situation. I also have to place the mug in a bag with other items, like paperwork.
    I use the travel mugs for my high-end powdered organic green juice that I only mix with water, and is my convenient one meal replacement on the go during the day. The chlorophyll really stains everything, especially since all mixes do not dissolve, despite their statements they do. Which means before every sip, I have to shake the beverage, and the cap ends up wicking out quite a bit of unwanted leakage.
    (BTW, all plastic leaches into water, and all types, not just BPA, are eventually toxic for all life forms. Former environmental scientist here)
    I hadn't heard of an inside wall ceramic option, and with the stainless steel exterior, it would not present as a hazard. Aluminum is also a toxin and never a good metal to have direct contact with, much less use for drinking water.
    Because I have not been a television programming consumer for many years, I have relied on video channels like yours to do the IRL field testing.
    You are my fav for the exact replication of manufacturer claims and excellent documentation of testing conditions.
    I tip my safety goggles to you, sir.

    You know I have a yeti coffee mug, it keeps my coffee really hot for hours I do enjoy it, the problem is it stays to hot to drink sometimes.
    I should sue them like the lady did that order HOT COFFEE at McDonald's and it spilt on her and burned her, so I'm going to sue for burning my tongue and lips lol

    i like the most of your reviews, but you should take the time to convert your measurements to metric/celcius.

      Given that he is only reviewing products that are made for the American market, and only guaranteed to be sold in America, it's reasonable to assume that most viewers are American. For better or worse, most Americans don't know the metric system so there's no reason to include it. Those who need it can do their own conversions. I do the same when I read reviews from the UK.

      @@ExpressionlessAnger You do are assuming a lot of things, some of those are perfectly fine. But why would you think the products are only for the american market? I know for a fact that most of the 'as seen on TV' products are sold in Europe. I agree that most viewers are American, but why not think big? It's a small addition and would help Freakin' Reviews, I think James would love to have views from europe none the less...
