I've listened to a lot of music during my life, and I love great bands with transcendent songs like Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Yes, Beatles, etc, all the greats from every genre. But this song always pops in my mind as one of my all-time favourites with songs like The Great Gig in The Sky by Pink Floyd, for example - this song is so haunting every time 'I cry..just a little'.
Wow this song gets to my heart and watching you listen to it! She can't break up with him. I love your smile thanks for posting. I had to break up with him at 17. Hes my facebook friend and came out with his first album! Dedicated to me.
Try: Double’- Captain of her Heart Sting- Be Still my Beating Heart Sade- Never as Good as the First Time The Police- Wrapped Around Your Finger Genesis- In Too Deep Richard Marx- Keep Coming Back Simply Red- Holding Back the Years Mike & the Mechanics- Taken In : )
OK, I'm 43 years old (as of today, actually) and have been hearing this since it came out in '88. Always liked the song and its smooth vibe. But I grew up without cable, and hence, without MTV or VH1. And all this time, I had no idea whatsoever that Brenda Russell was black -- and gorgeous, by the way. Makes no difference one way or the other obviously. It's just strange how whenever I heard this song, my mind never produced an image of a black woman. It's not even that her voice sounds particularly white; it just sounds beautiful, always has.
He's trying to pull her back in with his words, spoken or unspoken hard for her to leave because feelings still there even though the relationship not working out, they are blinded by the love
He plays HER like a piano
Always loved that song

A classic on R&B radio and smooth jazz radio. Love this song.
Love this song. It takes me back, but this fades out. You need to hear the rest of the piano/song.
Thank you for playing this :)

Havent heard this song in a long time! It sounds very 80s.
It came out in the 80s
Here's a song you hear on the Quiet Storm on r&b radio
She could be the piano he plays in the dark.

Im 43 as well. grew up during that time. Great song.
40 here and have loved this song since '88!
First time hearing Brenda Russell but i’ve heard this song before. I think Bingo Players re-made this?
FloRida sampled it too in one of his songs.
Just a little more time...
Do you really think she meant his piano playing? I always thought it was something totally different.
He's trying to pull her back in with his words, spoken or unspoken hard for her to leave because feelings still there even though the relationship not working out, they are blinded by the love
React to Sybil - Make It Easy On Me
Try "Way Back When" and "In the Thick of It" from her first album, much better!
Check out Taylor Dayne.
Billy Myers- kiss the rain is the same vibe but a lot better vocal
That song wouldn't exist without this!
But that is a great song as well. ❤❤
Love this song but still prefer the other video version of this.
I always wondered who was that you hear slightly on the chorus with her??? Is that or could that be a famous Artist or someone we know in general?
The melody with the lyrics kill me every time.
I believe the piano was meant as a metaphor as it was hard to let go

If the correct video, this one is better of Piano in the Dark.
She's thinking about her lover, not the piano man.
Great voice, boring song
