    I bought the Fenix 6 (which has many of the same features, but a different display type) a few months ago at a good price as the 7 just came out, basically just for hiking. I had no intention for it to replace my Apple Watch that I’ve been wearing for years. However, my Apple Watch hasn’t been on my wrist a single day since I got the Garmin. It even shows me notifications from my iPhone and I don’t use any of the more fancy Apple Watch features. So it does everything I needed from the Apple Watch. The Garmin app store is pretty useless and the app integration (Garmin connect and explore) is rather complicated, but the 2 week battery life, 4 days GPS tracking without recharging for longer hikes, sleep measurements and the more rugged design made this watch my new everyday watch.

    I have the Garmin fenix 6x pro for ages and I love it. Had an apple watch for a short time and the daily charging pissed me off so much I sold it after two weeks. That said the Garmin is the much superior sport watch. You'll be very happy with it.

    Hello, Great Review, after doing some research on the apple watch vs the Garmin watch I ended I purchased my 1st Garmin watch about 4 years ago (forerunner 945) and I was hooked, I then began to do research on features and screen class (OLED) and upgraded to the Epix (Gen 2). This watch has helped me with my triathlons (Ironmans) and hiking (National Parks) I partake in. Not only is the watch amazing but the battery life is great and the customer service is really good. I had issues with my watch and after trouble shooting with a Garmin tech, we could not fix the issue so they replaced my watch for a brand new up pretty quickly. Overall, I would highly recommend the Garmin brand and the Epix Pro Gen 2.

    I've just got my epix 2 watch and upgraded it to the latest software 8.17. Can I ask what the light button does on your watch?
    When I've got AOD off the light button just turns the screen on and off - is that correct?
    When AOD is on - it kinda just dims the screen but isn't obvious what it's meant to do?
    Thanks

    Great video. I have been AW user for years and just feel like change. Upgrading to AW ultra feels like I’m juts paying £850 for a duplication of iPhone on my wrist. Whereas price for Garmin gives me a very smart looking ( for office / dress up) alternative which will be great for my running, classes and spin. I may not be athlete but all the info in one place really appeals. Why do we feel bad for moving from apple …

    Thank you for your review. I’ve never owned a smart watch and I was wondering if the Epix work out task can be a watch for a couch potato to 4K runner? I’m impressed with the battery longevity and was concerned if the Garmin app was too much for a beginner. Any feedback?

    • @MarksTech
      @MarksTech  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Watch definitely motivates you to get out and be more active. When I bought my first Garmin watch, I definitely became more active, and still am to this day.
      It REALLY helps increase your running capability, especially if you use the built-in coach using the Garmin app.
      The Garmin app is super simple to use. It doesn’t have anything that is too difficult to understand.
      It was a big switch going from the Apple Watch app to the Garmin app - but I got used to it before the day ended.
      Just take some time and play around with the app and get to know it.
      My recommendation is to weigh yourself once a week and input that weight into the Garmin app. Not only is it just good to see progress as time goes on, but accurate calorie loss also depends on having your proper weight set:)

      Honestly it may be more than you need. Garmin has a bunch of other fantastic watches that don't cost that much. The biggest reason I'm getting an Epix is I hike a lot. Having a color map that is touchable on my wrist is a huge deal for me.

  • @Michael-556

    Very informative video Mark, Thanks. I have the Fenix 5 sapphire and an Apple watch 4. I like the Fenix much more than the Apple but for me the Fenix has 1 major con. My tired eyes struggle to read the incoming texts and the Apple is actually much easier to read. The amoled screen seems to be the answer to my issue. Would you agree in your experience with the Epix?

    • @MarksTech
      @MarksTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Michael thanks for watching! :)
      Yeah, AMOLED displays are not only brighter and show more colors (64,000 colors vs 64 on the fenix) but AMOLED displays also have more pixels per inch which makes reading text easier since it’s sharper.
      But with that, you’re going to get much less battery life.

    • @neoone75
      @neoone75 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have had fenix 5 plus sapphire for couple of years. I was about to buy fenix 7 but instead yesterday I ordered epix 2 after watching multiple reviews. Epix 2 is basically fenix 7 with amoled screen. They share same case, tech and features. No need to have edge 1040 for navigation because of the the screen resolution. Plus the golf features are close to what dedicated golf watches have.

      Charging is VERY similar to the galaxy watch. About 2 hours to full.
      So in always on display mode, you charge 2 hours out of 6 days.
      In gesture mode, you charge for 2 hours out of 16 days. Definitely not bad!

    I'm not exactly into all those fitness health features (at least not yet, maybe the Pixel watch will change me) but the one thing that did catch my eye about this watch was the Track Back feature. While I'd hopefully never need it, the idea of it being there is a very mind-easing thing. Plus, since other watches don't have it, kiiinda makes other feel a little dumb.
    I just find it funny, you've got these other smart watches that can automatically call for help if you fall or have certain blood or heart issues, but if you suddenly go hiking and lose signal it's just "lol guess you'll die"

The holy grail of a watch (to me) is to have all the functions of a cell phone including calls with just as good battery life as a cell phone. Why does nobody mention that there are problems with the watch(epix2/fenix7)?
    If you look in the forum you will see countless posts about individual software problems.
    A lot of random reboots, poor swimtracking, wrong altitude and wrong sleeptracking, map details missing, screen goes off and a lot of other bugs. Even with the latest update there are a lot of bugs. This watch is around 1000$ - i want it to run smoothly and not super bugy. A lot of youtubers are reviewing this watch but no one mentions those bugs - why ? Just have a look at the garmin forum and you will see what i mean. Hope this helps people to get a other point of view.

      Hey ! Thanks for watching! There was an update last night to the Epix- maybe that Helped. From my experience with the Epix and fenix 7s solar, I honestly never had any issues. Both of them function properly and both of them give me the same exact (+/-) details in terms of sleep tracking, altitude, etc

      Had a 7x SS for over a month and never had any bugs. So far.

    Nice review. The deal breaker for me with this watch is that it is way too big, ugly and looks incredibly uncomfortable. The 41mm Watch is pretty much the biggest watch I would want.

      like he is saying the watch is for outdoor, fitness and health people at first

      "Eyes of the beholder" . I love the fenix and epix looks. I have had the 6x pro over a year now and it it still looks great, I only take it for a quick charge and back on my wrist it goes.

    I really want to switch over from apple to garmin for the battery life, but apples sensors are so much more accurate imo

    • @MarksTech
      @MarksTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely not. At least not when compared to the elevate 4 sensors in the newer garmins. They are much more accurate, and give more info

      @@MarksTech how good are the new sensors and sleep sensors

    • @MarksTech
      @MarksTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very very accurate.
      Sleep sensors are more accurate in terms of sleep time than the Apple. Health sensors are also crazy good. Garmin has a patent on them. They are within 10% accuracy when it comes to calories burned, whereas the Apple Watch deviates by 43% according to a study at Stanford.

      @@MarksTech Interesting...You should do a video comparing Apple Watch 7 to the Epic 2.. I think a lot of people are stuck between the 2.. I had the Fenix 6 pro and Apple Watch 3, and the apple watches sensors were ten times better for heart rate, sleep etc so happy to hear Garmin finally updated their sensors

    Way to expensive ..no microphone, no lte.

      I rather have a epix then a silly apple watch as they break so east and the epix does hell of alot more then a apple watch can do and plus it will last longer and it looks better aswell. But its your opinion to say its to expensive and no mic and no lte.

    • @MarksTech
      @MarksTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      LTE would defeat the battery life - meaning if it had LTE, it might as well not be a sports watch.

      @@MarksTech yeah, this is a sport watch but it is essential to have the possibility to call or receive calls. Probably next gen. will have lte.

    • @MarksTech
      @MarksTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe! If they keep the battery similar, or better yet, add satellites calling, that would be insane
