    Just picked one of these up and 6 day battery with GPS ... coming from an Apple Watch that barely made 16 hours, is plenty. I hope I'm never gonna be away from electricity for more than 6 days. The hardest thing so far is trying not to charge it every time I sit down like the AW needed!
    I've tried it on a hike, bike ride and just now, a powerlifting training session. Very impressed indeed!
    Great video of the thing in real-world usage, just what's needed!

    Great video . I have just had the Epix Gen 2 Pro for three weeks. This is my first GPS Smart Watch. I’m impressed with its capabilities. I’ll never use anywhere near what it is capable of .
    I love the screen , love all the data.
    It is encouraging me to get out and walk more which is great. Thanks for the excellent video on how to use it on a walk. Really helpful.

      Many thanks for your comment. Since recording this video we have been working on how we can get OS maps onto a watch. It's not perfect at this moment in time but I think we will get there. Once we have it sorted we will get a video uploaded.

    Thanks for the video, thumbs up 👍
    I´m using a Fenix 6 Pro (replacing a ForeRunner 945) to track activities.
    As there is a very comfortable bi-directional communication available between Garmin Connect and the Komoot (free of charge subscription required only), I´m using this tool for planning (auto-routing) and synchronizing tracks to my watch.
    It works nicely in the opposite direction as well. Tracked activities will be synched to Komoot to be exported or to be shared with friends or the community.

    Isn't it odd how things work out; not 1/2h since chatting to you and placing my order, TH-cam search fir Garmin Epix (Gen2) and your video was first to show ~ watching now and in particular adding .gpx file to the garmin . Excellent as ever.

    I moved to the Epix from Apple Watch so the battery life is great in comparison. The tip on airdropping the GPX to the iphone was great, I had tried to upload GPX to Connect on my Macbook and it kept failing but your method worked first time - thank you 👍

    • @ukgpstraining
      @ukgpstraining  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for your comments. Airdrop is the way forward when transferring .gpx files, alternately you can just email to yourself and open them up on your phone.
      If you watch my second ‘walk and talk’ with the Fenix 7 (along St Cuthberts way) I show you a neat way of getting gpx file on a watch, it took a little while to work it out but it works a treat.

    Talkytoaster maps (routeable topo and DEM) would have shown you much more detail. I use it on my Fenix 6 Pro and 65s. But, can't take away from your great support and videos. You're the best in the business for GPS says and aftercare. Keep it up👍💪

    Great stuff Jon, very interesting to hear your comments on the Epix 2. I’m really enjoying these videos and although it’s a virtual thing, I’m enjoying having an exchange of opinions - sometimes I agree with you, sometimes I listen to a difference of opinion and sometimes I learn something new. Enjoyed your video. A key point you made, is to always have a backup to the electronics. I have the Epix 2 and love it (previously had the Garmin Fenix 6x Pro). I have not yet found a situation like yours that requires the fallback to map or to use my mobile. Remember it is touch type, so there is less reason to use the buttons. Just touch the fields.

    I enjoyed your video and it made me itchy to get back out hiking again. Coming from a fenix 5X plus which just sort of suddenly died recently, I'm looking at getting the Epix gen 2. I will gladly sacrifice some battery life for that display so I guess I belong to that targeted customer group ;) charging the watch a couple of times a week is absolutely not an issue for me. I don't think you mentioned this but I believe the Epix has fast charging enabled. Which traditionally really shines during the first few % of charge. Meaning if you're in the habit of plugging your watch while you shower or shave for instance, you might never go down below 60%.

    So I know someone else asked in the comments about which watch do you use and prefer between the Garmin solar Fenix 7 and the Epix 2 watch, Yes I have watched your other videos that you put a link to about the Garmin 7 solar watch, I can not make my mind up, Amazing battery life of the Fenix 7 solar or the beautiful screen on the Epix 2 with still a respectable 6 days aways on display or a lot more in gesture mode, So out of the two which one do you prefer and why ?? and happy with anyone else comments to what your bought and any regrets 😀

    Seems the mapping is insufficiently detailed to be relied on? Do you know if garmin are looking to add ability to include os?

    • @ukgpstraining
      @ukgpstraining  ปีที่แล้ว

      Garmin do not have any plans to put OS maps on any watch, but putting that aside on watches that have had OS maps it is still hard to navigate with using the map due to the screen size. Great vid! A question. If you zoom in on the Epix map. If you leave it like that, ascreen goes to sleep etc.. Does it still stay at that zoom level? Cause if I run ultramarathons on trails, I would like a quite zoomed in view of maybe like 100m diameter, that keeps me in the center at all times..

    • @ukgpstraining
      @ukgpstraining  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes it does stay zoomed in. My next 'walk and talk' is going to be made whilst taking part in an Ultra Marathon a week on Saturday, starting just after midnight. i am going to use the Epix for this, so will show things a little better then.

    • @stighw
      @stighw 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ukgpstraining Fantastic. Thats great. I have a comment also on when you had to take out the papermap. I think in an ultramarathon, you would not have to because they run and make the track accurate to where they ran the test. So if zoomed in you would be within 10-20m of the gate. But when setting more rough coordinates manually, some more problems could arise. But yes, a real map is always good to have

    Really informative video, thanks! Can I ask, is there a way of getting ‘turn by turn’ navigation on a handheld unit, e.g. Etrex 32x? Or is it only the beep every time you are coming up to a waypoint? Many thanks 😊

I am going to go in these two hikes and instead of going back to the start of the 1st hike, when i look at the map I see that I can just see a route to the 2nd hike without starting over all the way from the 2nd trail if that makes sense. ..

    Anyone know how to get the epix gen 2 to automatically keep up with your location for example if I am following a GPX route and I am zoomed in a bit for better clarity I then loose my directional icon because the map isn't moving with my location so I have to use finger to drag Map to see where I am this is really awkward. I have auto zoom on but still dosent seem to work

    • @ukgpstraining
      @ukgpstraining  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi apologies for delay in replying, as your are moving with the watch and following a course the map should move with you with the course line unless you touch the screen if touch screen enable and move the map slightly it will then stay stationary and not move with you, I tend to try and use just the button control to zoom in and out so that I dont accidently move the map as you then have to press the back button to recentre on where you are and for map to start moving again, we hope this helps

  • @richardwinter7226
    @richardwinter7226 ปีที่แล้ว

    How have you failed, you only have to follow the route displayed on the watch. No different than any other gps device

    • @ukgpstraining
      @ukgpstraining  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your feedback, the biggest difference I am experiencing between a watch and a unit is a number of things -
      1. screen size
      2. lack on an OS map on the screen
      My conclusions after walking with both (unit and watch) for some time now I now believe -
      1. A watch is superb for long distance trails, events, well waymarked designated routes. I love the 'off course' notification so if you are walking something line the Pennine Way which is fairly well waymarked you get that reassurance and notified if you go wrong.
      Many ultra events I have done I can solely navigate with a watch.
      2. But, on day long circular walks where I have planned my route (on OS maps) where I am on not well trod paths where I need the handrails of fencelines, stells, woodland boundaries etc I really need a GPS unit. the main reason is I then have an OS map on the screen and also i am able to look 3 or 4 km ahead and understand exactly where I am.
      This may be my shortcoming in navigating but after seeing so many people lost with watches on recent events I have done I suspect I am not the only one who has these thoughts. It's interesting to see the Spine Race (winter event) insist you need a GPS unit (rather than a watch) for that race, the full length of the Pennine Way.
      I hope this helps.
