15:58 I love the way the camera is positioned in this scene. Since Yue essentially became the Moon spirit, the Moon is right between Sokka and Suki, and thus Sokka is really hesitant to show affection in front of her.
13:14 Notice how Aang sent the fireball right back at the ship and actually hit it… Normally, he sends the fireballs back in a completely different direction, that way it won’t hit or hurt anyone; but this time he sent it directly back, something super out of character for Aang.
Maybe he was just facing it head on like an earth bender!

@Lady Seashell Bikini That was completely different at the North Pole because it was the ocean spirit pretty much taking over Aang’s body and doing all that work… Aang didn’t have control over that and felt extremely guilty afterwards that he had hurt people while in the Avatar State.
And even if you say that he’s protecting a pregnant lady, “he has to neutralize them”, yes I get that. But that still doesn’t go against what I was saying in my comment, it’s out of character for Aang to purposely do that…
@@ray_rayy24 think she’s referring to before Aang realized the size of the Fire Nation fleet. He took out over a dozen ships, by sabotage and then he saw the size of the fleet and got defeated. He went to meditate after that so that he could get guidance from Avatar Roku

They went underwater first because the fire nation was patrolling the bay so they wanted to be sneaky
Also because bending earth from meters above sea level is hard hence why Toph could not bend the earth up to make a path. Only reason she could underneath was because she was close to it and walking on it.
And also... ice isn't as stable to walk on as solid ground... ice is slippery and they have a preganant woman and a blind girl who can only see on solid platforms... she can't see on ice bridges since she can't feel vibrations there...

What I most enjoyed about this episode was Sokka's dynamic with Suki. It really shows the character development he had, and the large affect Princess Yue's death had on him. While he is still fun-loving and comedic, this was one of the episodes that established how serious Sokka really was.

Yes Michael, It's just like it would feel awkward kissing in front of your ex. Princess Yue, basically his ex girlfriend, became the moon and so it felt awkward or wrong to kiss in front of her.
18:34 Also, no they couldn’t have made an ice bridge from the start because they were trying to conceal their bending as much as possible. The fire nation has already spotted them on the serpent’s pass when the husband almost fell off and Toph had to earth bend.
Given the circumstances they were in, and the fact that they didn’t know there was an actual water serpent occupying the water there, Aang and Katara creating the water bubble and going under water was the best option for them in that moment.

The episode is not called the secert of the fire nation. The two episodes together (the serpent's pass and the drill) are called the secert of the fire nation.
If you remember from this episode, Suki said the firenation was blocking people from seeing what they were working on, which is why the fire nation ship was there.

Also Appa is one of the few things left from Aang's childhood so it makes sense that he would latch on to him so closely. He's like the last thing connecting him to his aribending roots on top of being his closest friend

Katara and Aang didn't make an ice bridge initially because they were still trying to sneak across Serpent's Pass. So, going underwater was the best idea. They had no idea that a huge serpent would screw up everything. Once the attack was on all caution was thrown to the wind. It became get everyone across and not get eaten at any cost.

You are right. Airbending is probably the deadliest of all, just sucking out the air of your lungs. Or earthbending the ground underneath you away, let you sink and then close the hole again and crush/burry you.
If you think deep enough, fire bending isnt near the most dangerous of the four elements 😂
The fact that you can turn someone to ash just by breathing on him isn't scary? Or being able to manipulate heat in general and either raise or cool someone's body temperature to lethal levels? I think if you think deep enough, fire is the most potential destructive element. That was how it was designed to be, and why control and discipline is emphasized more than any other element. It's just because this is a kids show that being able to raise something's temperature until it bursts into flames just by concentrating is only applied to leaves or candles.
@@kpuda7722 you have to keep in mind that fire bending is the only element that is (almost) always "starting" at the bender himself. Water bender Form example can bend water no matter where it is (kinda obvious but its hard to explain for me, hope you get it). Even Aang bend Air which wasnt beside him. Bit fire? Always starting from the benders body. There are some rumors, that in a movie it was different...but its probably just fictional. And heat bending is something veeeery uncommon as far as i know

There's a common firebending exercise that Zuko does to calm his mind and practice discipline where he focuses on controlling the flames of already lit candles - not by waving his hand and creating or restraining flames, but by sitting in the same room and breathing. Without a calm and focused mind, he accidentally makes them erupt when he hears bad news. He wasn't especially skilled, and it was a simple meditation technique. Fire usually starts from the bender because it's the rarest element if someone doesn't actively create it. Outside of the odd forest fire or thunderstorm, a firebender's weapon is most often man-made, but air, water, and earth are often in large supply all over the world. Having a power that allows you to manipulate heat and control forms of plasma other than fire evens out those odds, so that you can make the air spontaneously combust and create your element with little more effort than a thought, only limited by your willpower and energy, and can manipulate electricity or even (with total focus and peace of mind) create lightning.
As a basic exercise, Jeong Jeong burns a leaf and tells Aang to control it and prevent the entire leaf from bursting into flames, even though Aang decides to take the opposite approach and make the leaf hotter, creating fire. His manipulation of plasma then helps him shape and direct the flames. Again, this is a basic exercise for beginners. Make the show R-rated and a handshake or even being in the same room can mean burning to death just by the bender focusing on you and concentrating.
@@kpuda7722 you are right, i forgot about Zuko and the candles. But in the show you never realy see someone bending for example the fire of a torch to fight a person. Thats where i stumble and after some thought about it, i was like "wait, if fire bender's attack can only start from their own body, why did every other nation lose to them" coz in my mind it would be a big disadvantage regarding to fighting itself. And bending heat only one mighty firebender achieved as far as i know. But this person was also one of his kind and in my knowledge the greatest firebender ever lived to

That's how firebenders can create fire almost anywhere they are - by heating the molecules in the air until they combust, then using those flames as a weapon. Firebenders have a disadvantage in an extremely cold environment because they can barely generate enough heat to survive, much less create fire and fight with it. The examples I gave of the possibilities and the firebender you're thinking of are not about sheer power but just examples of what an extremely skilled and focused bender could do. The only variable is the magnitude. Even the ability to do lightning bending isn't about sheer power, as Zuko had the potential to do it on his first try, but about your focus, sensitivity to the ions (positive and negative energy) in the air, and peace of mind.

The name of this episode is The Serpent's Pass, but it might be different where you live. The "Secret of the Fire Nation" might be referring to what Suki says while they're traveling the pass. "Fire Nation controls the western lake. Rumor has it they're working on something big on the other side." which we find out at the end of this episode, is The Drill, the secret weapon of the fire nation against the walls of Ba Sing Se

Katara didn’t use ice initially because it’s just not practical. There’s multiple people including Toph who she knows can’t see not to mention a pregnant woman. It’s not safe so they decided to use underwater so they could have a solid surface (so everyone could have a study surface to walk across & Toph could see especially) and avoid being spotted again by the fire nation. Also It’s a ways to cross in those circumstances, not to mention cold on your feet.
Also, in the previous episode in the desert, Aang wasn’t doing in an “earthbending” mindset when he swatted down the vulture bee because remember it’s about waiting and listening with earth bending. He was just pissed, understandably. Appa is his everything. They’ve been together for over 100 years.
Also, Rafael has never heard that before. Avatar soundtrack is original and really amazing (I recommend downloading it) but I notice you guys never watch the credits just because the music is so good.
The show really takes off from here. Also, no one else has a last name except for Toph so You know she’s important.
