When the show was airing, this whole Appa arc was so much more agonizing. You can binge it on Netflix now but back then we had to wait for the next episode every week, and they had us waiting for around a month😭

So with this whole journey in mind, it's funny how the main gang went to Ba Sing Se as their only lead for finding Appa, but Appa didn't reach the city until they had already been there a few weeks.

the tone is called a tritone and its "unpleasant" sound is why they chose to use that for azula
This is by far the hardest episode to watch just because of how much Appa went through. He is a SURVIVOR. This poor baby was put through way too much.

If you watch when Appa is flying into Ba Sing Se, you can see the panther creatures that helped Momo watching everything go down from a rooftop

Everyone gets confused or worried when they say "We can sell him for parts."
It makes it sound like they're going to sell Appa's individual body parts, but they mean sell him for replacement parts for their equipment

I disagree. When you buy or sell a car "for parts", it means that you are going to dissect it and use its individual parts. That is EXACTLY what the merchants meant. You can hear it in the merchant's vengeful tone of voice when he says it. Appa would feed a LOT of rich assholes.

@@JadaCarlton The online commentary from during or just after A:TLA's run is so different from the commentary published after it had firmly secured its place as a masterpiece, and going back to the comments written before everyone had decided the show was almost perfect can be wild.
I can't give details yet because of spoilers, but some character hot takes from back in the day (that were very definitely not heavily influenced by ship wars) make me want to shove my head through a wall.

I don't know if you figured that out, but azula has specific sound effect and you can always find out that she is going to appear(no other firebenders has this music and small bell sound except for her)
