    How can such a musical genius be so humble and understated?

    • @TheDreamingJune

      It's frankly remarkable that someone as gifted as Scott Walker comes as across as down to earth and unassuming. It's rare. Most artists are arrogant and narcissistic.
      Which makes me love his music all the more.

    Scott had one of the most glorious, emotive voices in music. It's such a pleasure to watch this interview and see how modest and sincere he is. He is truly missed.

    For the past couple of months , as indeed throughout my life, I have watched, read and listened to details that have been published or recorded about this man. What an influence he has been on my life as surely as on many thousands of others. I have appreciated his music over the last 50 years and have always been excited to see how his music has developed. I don’t pretend to understand it....his intellect was far greater than mine . I wouldn’t know if his family and friends even read these comments but if by chance they do I cannot imagine the gap he has left in their lives. So very sad he has gone but what a wonderful legacy he has left for the world.

    Man, I knew Scott was a good singer but I had no idea that he was such a profound artist. He was the quintessential artist who's willing to sacrifice everything for his art. And he was deadly humble as well. You know, there are artists who create art and there are artists who are art themselves. Extremely sad that he wasn't understood by the industry including myself.

      Jerry Butler was a well know singer in those days. He approached an unheralded composer and requested that he, Burt Bacharach, write some songs for him. Jerry Butler had a big hit with this one. Two years later, the Walkers did a cover, and produced a masterpiece, which became the definitive version. Neither Burt or Dionne could come close.

      Even Bob Dylan had big hair. The Beatles caught attention by their big hair. Don't forget the Stones. And the Who. And Dusty and Diana and Janis. There was a Broadway show written and preformed by two guys, who got rich because they had big "Hair." Scott & Bros had Beatle haircuts, which put them on the team. In this interview he is dressing his age, unlike Paul who still sports a Beatle hair doo.

      @@mt.shasta6097 Oh, certainly. If we combine his good looks in the 1960s with the beauty of his voice, we are astonished. Rarely do those two things come together in a person. Scott was one of the few examples of that I can think of.

    He's right, it is harder than poetry, you are constrained by the demands of musical form, especially if you are writing deliberately towards some idea of 'commercial' consumption-maybe he doesn't do that.

    • @rushnanjaleel3386
      @rushnanjaleel3386 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @grimble he did mention that writing lyrics is difficult in a 'particular way'. I think considering how lyrically dense, imagistic and complex his songwriting is, I can understand that coming from him. The writing for most of his songs on his last few records has all the heft, complexity and ambition of poetry, but needs to be fit for a singing voice. So I can understand why he'd suggest it's even more difficult than writing poetry. Ordinarily however, I'm not sure if that would be true, because in most music the instruments almost compensate for the brevity of the lyrics.

    His eyes are blue just not lit in that interview making them look brown. Scott was in his late 60s during the interview and most likely dyes his hair - I'd imagine dyeing grey hair brown is easier than dyeing it blonde!
