When you're around an animal long enough you know what they want. When my cat passed she wanted a bath, she didn't fight like she always did she just wanted to feel warm and clean and she tried to fight when I took her out of the water. Then she wanted to snuggle and watch adventure time and that's just what we did. She died in my arms a couple hours later, watching the first Fiona and cake episode of adventure time

To be submitted to the SCP Ethics Committee:
You do not let a sane dog die in a cold mettle box, or on the hard road shoulder.
This is the debt we, as a toolmaking species, owe the universe for daring to shape lifeforms into tools.
You may have to put a dog down, but when you do you hold it, and look it in the eye, and you tell it it's a good dog, first. A dog, thanks to us, can no longer be a wolf: we have changed them, root and stem, and we can never be free of the moral obligation that entails. If some... distant tool maker, eons from now, found the last dog, dying far from us, I hope they would have decency to do for us, what Dr. Bloom did for the creators of the Harbingers.

When I was young, I wondered how many things like this were out there wandering in the dark, lost and forgotten. As I got older I understood that even if such things did exist, Humanity's hyper-parochial status meant that such things would still be non-existent from our perspective. The older I get the more I appreciate Clarke's aphorism. I do not know if it would be worse to know that the galaxy is dead, and we are actually the first (or only) civilization. Safety precautions. The Foundation is cold, not cruel - hence the use of D-Class and general isolation of a lot of SCPs. A benevolent-looking SCP can easily become malevolent out of nowhere (See: SCP-1048, Builder Bear) and trying to lend any emotional credence to the SCPs can lead to very dangerous consequences (See: The entire existence of MTF-Omega, before it was disbanded). The Foundation's entire goal to to keep anomalies contained, and to NOT vary in behavior at any point. Letting Harbinger believe that Dr. Bloom was a "Master" could have caused it to vary greatly in behavior - unfortunately, it turns out it was dying.
It's not that the Foundation doesn't see or understand why Dr. Bloom was sympathetic - hence putting him on leave, rather than outright firing him. They have to enforce the same consequences for "being emotional" with an SCP to everyone - regardless of circumstances. Otherwise, how many more "exceptions" to the rules can doctors and staff work around in order to communicate with potentially dangerous SCPs?

@Nicholas Ramirez Haltenhof Well, considering the foundation only put him on administrative leave, that's arguably just... Good for him. The foundation is a hellhole, getting some time off may not be so bad a punishment.

I feel like Dr. Bloom should've also received a "pat on the back" award from ethics committee.

Bloom broke protocol and deserved to be reprimanded... but I also don't think they were as harsh as some people are thinking.
For all we know they basically told him to take some time off because of how much the anomaly's death affected him.

Yeah man, probably the most emotionally provoking video you’ve made. I found myself swept away by the short “breakthrough” point of the article where it is revealed what the function of the probe is and the shocking philosophical depth which is instantly apparent. I love this SCP article and I love your depiction of it. This may sound dramatic or exaggerative, but this video really truly moved me. Well done sir.

I absolutely love Harbinger, she is and always will be my favorite SCP. She worked so hard to get her message out and in my opinion Dr. Bloom did the best thing at the end, even though he lied he did it to help Harbinger, he made her feel accomplished, and she was! She got her message out, she served her function and he made sure she knew that. It was wrong of them to reprimand him.
