Kerrang! came on import to America. I couldn't get anything until....episode 7? Big fan until some time in the later 80's. So much great hard rock, guitarists hey day, I had no time for some great pop/rock hits on the radio. Every night. Every weekend. The peak of hard rock.
I remember the cover of Kerrang, was interesting to hear the black axe snippet. I was only 16 when it came out but due to limited funds didn’t have the money to buy music from smaller bands. The joys of TH-cam and streaming channel is that music is and can be more accessible now for a fraction of the price. Did Bow wow not become Vow wow - remember seeing them in Glasgow (QMU - I think). 1980 Blackfoot toured with the scorpions - this was my first gig at the Glasgow Apollo. Brilliant video thanks
Saw Vardis at Redcar, Coatham Bowl in April 81. I'll have been coming up 17. I think the support was Spider but I may be imagining it. Loved Sounds for it's rock coverage, Deaf Barton et al. Remember getting the first Kerrang, think it was just a one off from Sounds (testing the water).😊
i agree dunsy they should have had a singer meet them in glasgow at a uni gig drank till 4 in the morning with them robbo what nice guy brill guitar player happy days😀
The only time I actually would see Kerrang magazine was in Walden Books stores which were in malls. They were too pricey for me as a kid because Hit Parader, Circus, Metal Edge, Faces, and Rip magazines were like $3.50 and those Kerrangs were like $8.00

Rockin' til the Break of Day!
I've got it as well, my favourite band Saxon, with a big interview with Biff, great great times, a great channel. Dunsy.
Thanks for checking it out, Sir. Loved that mag.

Cheers Chris - good times! I’m gonna continue with this and go through a lot of early Kerrang’s. A blast from the past!
👍🏻👍🏻
My first gig was April 27th 1980, at Wolverhampton civic hall, Saxon with Lautrec in support.
Sweet! Loved that "Mean Gasoline" single by Lautrec.
I've still got my copy of Kerrang number one hidden away somewhere!
Well thumbed I hope!

I am most jealous, Sir! And what a double bill with Spider. Boogie central!

I never even remember seeing any of those US mags back then - I think they were so expensive for us that none came to Scotland!
Wolf/Black Axe was a killer band. Ever consider doing a cover or lesson of Edge of the World?
Yeah, I think that could be on the cards. Killer tune.
The drummer out of Torah! Torah! was one Simon Wright, later of AC/ DC, Dio and UFO
No way?! I’m gonna try and track down a demo - if they did one. Nice info, sir. Thank ya.
