Dunsy , At last ive been waiting for you to edit yours and Fred’s summer road trip 👌🍺 Some really nice guitars 👍Good sound track 👌🍺
Love that magazine l have nr 1 to nr 25 in mint 👍🤘
I love looking through these old mags, takes me right back!
The new guitar sounds great!
It does but, man are those pickups hot! Plays absolutely fantastic too.
@@DunsysGuitarWorld2 I think my friend Derek did the refurb and setup, he's who I go to for stuff that's beyond my skill level.
What models the new Axe man ?
👍🏻👍🏻
Dunsy, I thought you might have to do a Tygers number as they have been in every issue of Kerrang that you've reviewed. Nice one 🐅 🐅
Love the TOPT - I'll need to be doing a Handsome Beasts number as well!
Awesome Brother, Hats off to ya! \m/ Superb
Got to think that this is slight exaggeration. There’s a thousand girls outside the locked door, - Dunsy you are the Rock 'N' Roll Man
Coupla hundred, maybe? A dozen, deffo!

Another viewer of this video mentioned Lunatic Fringe by Red Rider. It's was a song inspired by the shooting of John Lennon. Yes they are Canadian and from my home province and turned out to have an awesome library of tunes. Another fun fact in case you didn't know, the album mentioned in the article As Far As Siam. Siam is now known as Bangkok which is where I am currently, well kinda, I am in Thailand at the beach about 3 hours from Bangkok.
👍🏻👍🏻
Interesting to see how many of these bands are still on the go 40 years later. Can we same the same for the pop world. I don’t think so.
I love the first four or five Maiden albums more or less equally, but I think the debut has a certain mystique that gives it an edge over the others.
My favourite Maiden album is Killers, I've always preferred Paul to Bruce.
My favorite Iron Maiden album is Killers. Red Rider was known for the song "Lunatic Fringe."They featured Tom Cochrane who had a hit with "Life is a Highway."
For Iron Maiden I would have have to go with "Piece of Mind" this was the first time I saw them. The album I think is more melodic than "Powerslave" plus the songs don't have that ultimate annoying familiarity of "Number of The Beast". I sort of lost interest in Iron Maiden following "Powerslave" I'll see them for the third and last time this year, will be interesting to see what they play.
My favorite Iron Maiden album is Poweslave except when I change mind and it's Number of the Beast or Live After Death. It's always one if those three.
Classics!
Well done it's so good to see someone cover a Ted Nugent song that are not the same old same old repeats everybody does over and over again including Ted himself. Don't get me wrong I'm huge Nuge fan so awesome to see an oldie but goodie being showcased and gettin some love.
👍🏻👍🏻
Certainly a legendary guitarist, as you say Dunsy. When I first heard Stranglehold, I started listening to Ted's records, as with most bands or artists that have made a lot of albums, some were not as good as others, but his guitar playing always impressed me. His typically mid eighties sounding album Little Miss Dangerous has some great riffs and Painkiller a particular favourite of mine. I think Ted had a period of using PRS guitars but always went back to his trusted Byrdland over the years. Thanks for covering this song by Ted.
Good call - I actually like those mid 80's abums too - even his cover of Little Red Book! Think he had a black and white striped PRS prototype?
The Tygers were definitely on a high in the early eighties. John Sykes is in my top ten guitarists. He didn't seem to get the same accolades in the press that some guitarists received, but he is a fantastic guitar player, in my opinion.
Absolutely. Sykes was a monster player - super fast and super articulate. Great feeling too.
👍🏻👍🏻
FFS! I just discovered DGW2. That’s tomorrow gubbed.
Apologies in advance, Sir! Huvva braw NY, hopefully a pint in 2025.
Baron Rojo did support Hawkwind, I saw them at the Playhouse round about my sixteenth birthday!
Pretty sure the did - maybe 82?
@DunsysGuitarWorld October 82
Another excellent travel back through time 🤘 I have all five of those albums listed on Vinyl and CDs 👍🍺
A connoisseur indeed! Nice one, Sir.
Another shout out to the Handsome Beasts, can you slot them into a 4th consecutive vlog.! Would loved to have seen Pat Benatar back in the eighties but don't think I recall her venturing over to the UK very often. She had a rockin' catalogue of songs.
Most publicity they've had in a wee while! Some great tunes. I only remember Pat playing here one time, maybe 81/82?
Avatar was the home of Dark Star, Chevvy and, I think, Limelight
Ah, that's right - nice info sir!
Bought mine circa 2010
Still a decent sounding pedal.
Awesome--thanks for this!
No problem!
👍🏻👍🏻
Today's episode reminded me of the Handsome Beasts "Breaker" EP that I bought for 50p from the reduced rack at my local independent record shop. Played it over and over at the time. It was always hit and miss which track played on side two as it had a spiral groove.
Definitely sounded much better than they looked!
Kerrang! came on import to America. I couldn't get anything until....episode 7? Big fan until some time in the later 80's. So much great hard rock, guitarists hey day, I had no time for some great pop/rock hits on the radio. Every night. Every weekend. The peak of hard rock.
Rockin' til the Break of Day!
Hi Dunsy Who was that (not so😄) jovial personality that we had to guess who? Was there a clue in there somewhere? Anyway, when you look at the bands that were about in the early eighties it makes you appreciate how good a time it was for us (young at the time) heavy rock fans. My partner even saw some before they made it big, Def Leppard at Northampton Cricket Club to name one. She also had the honour of seeing AC/DC with Bon Scott at Leicester De Montford Hall. As I was trying to learn to play guitar, obviously I focused more on the guitarists in the bands, and there were some fantastic guitar players, But as I started to learn I began to appreciate all the musicians, and anyone who could master a instrument and also have the bo££ock$ to get up and play in front of a crowd. After seeing the great Ted Nugent on the back cover I am going to try and play Stranglehold later. Cheers
Ah, I'll go and check who the mystery person was - totally forgot to update it. Totally agree, what a fantastic time for music (and being the perfect age to appreciate it). Hope you were rocking out to the Motor City Madman!
Dunsy, I love these Sunday strolls through your old Kerrang magazine collection.👌🤘🍺 Did they have any adverts that weren’t music related in them ?
i agree dunsy they should have had a singer meet them in glasgow at a uni gig drank till 4 in the morning with them robbo what nice guy brill guitar player happy days😀
Drinking with Robbo and Jimmy! Holy smokes, I bet that was a rough next day!
@@DunsysGuitarWorld2 in was but just started again as you do when yr young
👍🏻👍🏻
Yes Quo compilation "12 Gold Bars" my sisters friend had along with Rainbow "Down to Earth" hocked me to Heavy Metal. Then like you was on to Priest and Saxon who remain my number 1 and 2 go to bands. With the Scottish Heavy Metal band Marillion in third place who are yet to feature in Kerrang 😉
Quo were like a gateway dr*g to Metal!
Weiss Heim was actually the B-side to the All Night Long single. ....back in the era where ferreting out import B-sides was half the fun, and if you were the first in your area to unearth it, it was a badge of honor. It did eventually appear on Finyl Vinyl. I also recall the song being used as walkout music post-show at the gigs.
Ah, yeah that's right - I thought it was on a b side at some point. Great tune.
Sounds great, did you record this direct or use an amp? Thanks!
Thank ya - direct into a clean amp on my Kemper. Some cool sounds from it, a bargain at £20!
Frank Marino man. Wow. He is one of the greatest guitarists ever. I think he did 1 interview with Kerrang and it was short. He came thru Chicago 3 times off of his Juggernaut LP and I saw him twice. Then after 13 years he took a break and changed. He was amazing live.
A incredible player - I've only seen him one time live, but it was magnificent.
I bought Kerrang for years. No MSG or UFO or Bernie Torme on the cover that I see. I actually bought several albums because of reviews. Do you have the one where Gary Barden and Paul Raymond leave MSG? They are on the cover. I think I started right after that and the Reading 82 festival.
Can’t remember if it was just Sounds magazine but I used to love the family trees
I am enjoying these Heavy Metal Sundays Dunsy.... Tygers of Pan Tang, what a great band, in fact when Robb Weir was endorsing, and playing Spear Guitars, I purchased a Spear Tomcat Golden Tiger after I saw him playing one. There was also a feature in Guitar World magazine at the time on this guitar, which helped my decision. Great specs for the price, they have Seymour Duncan pickups, a Jazz in the neck and a Jeff Beck in the bridge, this is still my favourite guitar to play, even today.
Ah, I have never tried one of those Spear guitars - something I most definitely need to do. Man, I love the Tygers. Brilliant band.
Lance was in Wrathchild.
Nice one! Loved Wrathchild.
Pallas! Love 'em. I recently took delivery of their box set on Esoteric Recordings, with the original Arrive Alive album from '81, which I'd never heard before. They always reminded me a bit of my fellow Canadians Saga in their ability to write a concise, punchy prog song.
I still have the Sentinel on vinyl, which is a damn fine album.
Heavy Pettin, should have been as huge as Leppard.. Please can a promotor invite Hamie back to London Town. Rock ain't Dead, yet..
👍🏻👍🏻
Excellent number 5👍 I love Pampered Menial great album by Pavlov’s Dog 👌
Really enjoying this time to look back at our youth with much fondness and love for the best music ever recorded and times spent having fun with friends. Magic
