One of the most popular film versions of William Shakespeare's famous tragedy. It has won numerous awards (2 Oscars, 3 Golden Globes, David di Donatello Award, and 5 Silver Ribbon Awards, one of which went to Nino Rota for the film's score)
The best version of the most wonderful of Shakespeare’s plays. When I saw this as a fourteen year-old, I fell in love with Olivia Hussey. Nino Rota’s score was instrumental in that (pardon the pun!). That hasn’t changed fifty years on and she is so beautiful to this day.
Morricone was highly constricted by budget in the early Leone films for score production. This led him to some odd and striking uses of different instruments and vocals, but it would have sounded very different had he a greater budget at the time. Give thanks for the constraints of a tight budget and innovative thinkers 😄

Everytime i hear this I think of Romeo in the tomb crying over Juliet's body. He loved her so much! It is so poignant and so sad.... Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey were excellent in Romeo & Juliet. It is and always will be my favorite movie....
How many of us kissed someone or dreamed of kissing someone with this beautiful music in the background? Godspeed Franco Zeffirelli. Thank you for those beautiful memories to hold for a lifetime. (Music by Nino Rota)
BEAUTIFUL movie, BEAUTIFUL song, BEAUTIFUL play, BEAUTIFUL actors. Thank you for this, I have been searching for months to find this song. brings tears to my eyes every time.
I cannot believe Nino Rota did not win the OSCAR for this amazing theme. The music was a character in the story. I was thirteen when this movie came out. I had to have seen this movie ten times at the theater. It was so magical and the music hauntingly beautiful. I cannot believe Oliver the movie won instead. I know it was good but not as good as this. It was just like the movie “Jaws”. It was such a hit critics downplayed it as a big fish tale. No it was an incredible film with an incredible score, at least they gave the score the oscar for that one. Nobody has put out a better Romeo and Juliet than this.

Two beautiful lovers with the most beautiful music. Saw this in 1968. I was 14 at the time. Fell in love with Romeo. Can't imagine two other actors in this movie. They and the music were perfection. Italians are beautiful people and fantastic artists. So glad my grandfather was from Italy.

I cry every time. Something about the pluck of the guitar and the melancholic strings that back the emotion of grief. It's beautiful. In deed, Old Money favors from sampling this beautifully underrated piece. Lovely. Just painfully lovely.
Gorgeous song. And I like how those two actors have an air of children-at-play to them - blissfully clueless of all the complications waiting up ahead.
