Pipi is so sweet. I love how she doesn’t want just a bite. She wants the whole thing!! It’s obvious how much people love you and respect what you do full these tiny fur balls!! Me included!

Hello Scott hope you are doing well it's nice to see Pipsqueak in a video Pipsqueak is such a cute little guinea pig he really is adorable that face is just cute. I love guinea pig faces or just so unique. With the coloration of their fur and just the way they look they're so cute. Those are faces you have to kiss. Cuz I'm faces are just freaking adorable. Guinea pig noses are very cute.

Here in UK we don't use the term shelter very often but tend to say 'rescue' or 'sanctuary'. or occasionally ' animal charity'. We don't have county shelters and the small private rescues usually (but not always) concentrate on helping one or two species rather than all different ones. Bigger rescues can take in more species- the RSPCA being the nationwide one which often works with the police in animal abuse/neglect cases. No animal rescue organization in the UK (to my knowledge) has any direct government funding. Charities have the chance to be registered if they follow certain guidelines and inspections and can claim certain grants and other financial advantages.
I help at a sanctuary for guinea pigs and we often get people contacting us to rehome or adopt. We have to explain that as a sanctuary we usually look after our piggies for the rest of their lives because of their health issues etc and so we don't usually rehome (although there are occasional exceptions).
The terms are confusing for people. It's good that you have explained the situation in the US

Omg Scotty, this vid actually brought me to tears watching Pip snuggled down in that hidey, safe in your arms, munching on that yummy snack, but looking at the camera --- so stinkin' cute!!! Reminded me of my Stuart who passed a long time ago but is never forgotten 🥺 ❤

It's been a long time since I've had any guinea pigs. Thanks to you, other piggy TH-cam channels, and different web site I have good up-to-date info on piggies. So when I get them now I can take better care of them.

My herd gives all paws up for the SPS banana/apple snackers.
Public shelters are ones who take in any and all animals. Frequently trashed online for being a kill shelter, but they do the best they can with the funding they get. Adopt from them more, the numbers will look better. Like my nearby one, over 500 small pets/exotics hoard with a number of pregnant females. Their budget for the year is never ready for that.
Private shelters/rescues can be as good or bad as the people involved. Some have EXTREMELY awful practices. Some are excellent. However, they’re not obligated to take in all animals, which reduces the euthanasia rate in some.
I foster for the near shelters for the ones who need more care. Like my terrified boys and the pregnant moms.
Saskia, like many specialized rescues, sees random things showing up because they see thousands of a species and learn that hey X is a problem. Like Calicified Bulla Syndrome and Fungal Feet. My vets are very willing to take the information that Saskia has done and give it a try. Seeing if chronic URI are CBS and trying anti fungal treatment on dry feet hurts no pig. They are seeing CBS in the chronic URI pigs, and the chronic dry feet are looking shiny and healthy with anti fungal treatment.

I just adopted a female version of pipe from the Guinea pig sanctuary. Her name is now Princess. She has been the best addition to our family now I'm proudly a poogie momma of five.

Hi Scotty, great video and explanation and oh my goodness how cute was Pippi. I have always been a supporter of anything animal/wildlife related. I support as many as I can. Our first family dog Pip came from Foal Farm Animal Rescue here in the UK (south), that was nearly 60 years ago and they are now so much bigger. I am aiming to contact them to do a 25mile charity walk this coming summer/autumn to raise funds. They have so many pet animals, as well as farm animals, horses, donkeys etc.

I felt more comfortable adopting from a rescue because I knew they’d have more specific knowledge on guinea pigs, better idea of the guinea pig’s history and personality and matchmaking them to their potential humans. I’d also be helping a rescue which they also need dire support for all the work they do, and I get support from them too if I have questions or need help. Versus shelters have so many types of animals on their hands that its difficult for them to get to know the animals there. And once you’ve adopted an animal from the shelter, they’re up to you to get reputable care info

Love Pippie ❤ Piggies are soo kissable and what a lovely thought making you that banner. Small gestures mean the world, I think. When I wanted guineas, a number of years ago, I went to our local animal rescue and put my name down. When I had set up their habitat, which was larger than required, they came to my house then refused my adoption of a bonded pair of males. Also these males were due to be neutered. So I ended up at Pets at Home with 2 girls. When I took them to my local vet, I learned that the head vet there had been refused a dog from the same rescue. Not a nice place. My guineas lived well. I only don't have any now is that we have a dog. The story goes on...Since watching your videos I've realised that future adoptions would have to be investigated on a larger scale. Happy Birthday Betty and take care Scott Y.N.W.A
