I have a small family owned and operated (no-kill) guinea pig sanctuary, rescue, and adoption center called Paw's N' Whiskers. It's fairly new so I don't have a web site or Face-book page for it yet... I have rescued over 4 guinea pigs, 3 males and 1 female in 1 week. Everything is going great :) This girl is has a big heart and she is very inspiring to me!! You go girl, keep doing what you love and makes you happy!! :)

Squishy Bubbles Amazing! I adopted a guinea pig from a local rescue about 2 weeks ago but unfortunately he passed away due to an Upper Respiratory Infection that was dormant. I'm glad now that I didn't get him another piggy companion or else he would've transferred it, but I was going to take him to the vet the next day.

I'm from Kenya and I love animals very much. I'm 15 years but since I don't have resources to start an animals sanctuary I just feed stray animals. I've been inspired by this girl that one day I'll make it and be like her. May God bless me.

You don’t have to worry about money at all if you foster animals from your local shelters. They provide all the supplies and food and testing and vet care and you just provide the space, time, attention and TLC. So many people think they have to do all or nothing but if many people did somewhere in between, then so much more could be accomplished. This girl is getting great experience but she could honestly have the exact same setup while fostering through other shelters. Then she wouldn’t have to worry about fundraisers and the legalities off it all. And she wouldn’t have to limit herself to just four at a time. Fostering helps in so many ways. It helps the animal you foster acclimate to a home environment, helps them to be more relaxed and better behaved and it gives you a chance to get to know them so potential adopters can make the best match. All of those things make them more adoptable. They’re adopted faster and the adoption is more likely to succeed. It also frees up a space so that the shelter can take in another needy animal. You can either set up your own little kennels like this teen has done, or you can have them just live in your main living area as long as they and your current pets are all safe and healthy and behave with each other. So many people want to help 100 animals at a time but most people can’t do that so they think they can do nothing. But if you have 100 people help just ONE animal at a time each, then 100 animals are still helped! Don’t worry about all or nothing, even small ripples make big waves, especially with their energy combined!

Its really bad right now in California they say its because a lot of people dumped their cats because they couldnt afford them during the pandemic.... really!? I live on a very low income and have never done that to any cats.

If you can't adopt or foster, there are many other things you can do to help the animals at your local shelters. You can take up donations at school or with friends and family to "financially sponsor" an animal. That money will go towards the adoption fee for the animal of your choosing so that the new adopter doesn't have to pay as much. You can also do what I call "verbally sponsoring" which is picking an animal and then try to help it find a home. Take some pictures of it and spend a few minutes with it to get an idea of what its personality is like. Ask the staff members basic facts about the animal (breed, gender, age, health status, etc). Once you have that info on the animal, post about it on any social media that you use, tell your friends and family about it, even family that lives in a different area. Ask your parents to tell their coworkers about it. All of this publicity can really help an animal find a home. And when that animal has been adopted, pick another one and start the process over. Remember to choose animals that have been there a long time, older animals, animals that maybe aren't very pretty, etc. Those are the ones that take the longest to get adopted so they need the most help. You can ask the office staff which ones they think would benefit the most from your sponsoring. And you can even do one cat and one dog at a time! I wouldn't do more than two animals at a time though. Each time you go to the shelter you can play with that animal and take more pictures to put on your social media again to keep reminding people about it. Another thing you can do is help educate your friends, schoolmates and family about the importance of adopting animals instead of buying them. Read articles posted on the Humane Society's website and also on Peta.org. The more you educate your self about the causes of the "companion animal over population crisis" the more you can help educate others. Encouraging others to get their animals spayed (females) or neutered (males) is one of the biggest things that helps. If an animal can't breed then it will not contribute to the over population crisis. You can also ask your Home Economics teacher to incorporate sewing projects like cat hammocks and dog sweaters into their classes. That will help your classmates to continue to think about helping animals and you can donate those items to your local shelters. Thank you for caring about these animals and I hope some of these ideas help you and anyone else who is reading this post. Best wishes to you! :)

If you can't do something like this you can still help. You can foster an animal from a shelter until it's adopted. Talk to your local shelter about their foster program and do research online about how to foster an animal. Even if you can only help one animal at a time, imagine how many you can help in your life! Sometimes many people doing small things can add up to more than one person doing great things. You can even get other extended family and friends involved by encouraging them to foster as well! Me to! 17 and started at 15. I mainly rescue exotics but also dogs and cats and all. I use my 5 garages that my grandpa built years ago. My family is cool with it since they are into big exotic animals. I just pay for most of it all and am home all day. Most people want to do something like this but they also fail to see how much work and money go into rescues. And how much care and knowledge you have to have.

Am here because i couldn't sleep well for the last two days, the reason?
There's a small kitten just outside of the house am living right now, crying loudly to no end. It's bothering me. I have been feeding it every night, but i really can't do anything else for the little fella.
No pets are allowed in the house am living right now and i share my room with 3 other guys so there's really not much room for anything else... I can still here the little fella's cries even right now as am writing this and it's making me feel like shit...
I keep thinking of a way to help these poor animals, that's how i got here.
It's 4am over here right now and i just called a friend of mine to see if he can take this kitten in but he already has 3 cats in his place so it's a no go.... Damn this sucks, i hope one day i can get my own house or open an animal and rescue shelter so i can help them all....

My dream is to have my own animal shelter when i graduate and hace money. I do some othwr stjff but this really drives my sentiments, i have soft spot for animals only, the onmy thing that can make me cry is seeing one of them in pain. They deserve love and a home, so I will work hard so in the future this animals can have a home and be taken care of

I'm planning on making an animal shelter, though I'm only thirteen. There are _lots_ of stray animals on my place, so I would love to make one. Land is not a problem and I've been researching for quite a while. I just need some tips from you guys concerning fundings, food, advertising, etc. Thanks! It means a lot to me.

I realize this was profiled years ago, but, update please. And to cap, did she get a sizable donation to go with that plaque? I hope so. Recognition is great, but for her who relies on public donations, the money would go farther.

Do you have a websight were we can donate to help you get started with bigger area to help more animals? Or to help you keep doing what you are doing now? I would love to help you out. If i could have had the space when i was young like you i would have done thos too, thats why I'm so excited to see such a young person doing this but I would love to start now that I'm 36 instead of never doing it at all, it's literally my dream but unfortunately I've had to work up until now and wouldn't have half the time or money. Im in texas about to buy property and intend to create an a non-profit animal rescue there while my fiance continues working to pay bills. I want to support you in the hopes that once I create my animal rescue people will support me. Karma is everything we all have to support each other and I would love to help!

Nice to do things by yourself especially starting out by yourself but people that get tied up in the “all by myself” kick can only get so much done all by themselves. There really is only so much one can do ALL by themselves especially if they refuse help. Hopefully if she wants to do more and help more animals because after all it’s about the animals, if she takes on a bigger space then that means more animals, more money that needs to be raised, more human interaction the animals will need and so on and so on, means more hands involved in order for the cats to get the same quality treatment they get now. Great what she’s doing but the issue in this country is bigger than any ONE person can handle unless everyone opened their home and did what she’s doing then yeah, do it all by yourself and take in those you can and the issue won’t be as great but far more people NEED to get involved in changing laws and eliminating dog mills or any animal mill for that matter.

We should all support no kill animal shelters. I get why the regular shelters, euthanize animals but, it's still so cruel to kill an animal because no human cared for him/her.
