If you’re inclined to write off a dog as “too much work” after two days, you have no business seeking to adopt a pet in the first place.

It's better to return her than to try to make it work and neglect her and or treat her wrong or even abuse her. The previous adopters should just get a goldfish

My baby…the love of my life…who still has my heart 17 years after his passing…was in a cage trying to get my attention in a pet store in Arlington TX. As I walked away, my friend said, “He’s looking to see where you are going.” I asked to hold him, and the pet store employee told me, “A family brought him back. They say he doesn’t like people.” I remember thinking, “Well he seems to like ME.” He came home with me, and quickly became the love of my life. He was three months old when he chose me, and he passed in my arms at 16 and a half. Our bond was magical.

My dog has been returned many times before I adopted him. The shelter wasn't seeking a family anymore when I got him. All of this happened just because he was shy and very scared of people, instead of being extrovert and cuddly. Now he's the most adorable and loving creature in the world 🥰

The darn cheek that the shelter wasn't seeking a family anymore. What then? Would he just have stayed there in isolation? Then at that point a decision should have been made to rather set his spirit free and have him to sleep. We are all pro life as far as possible, but what was more cruel???

There's a reason when we say "you don't pick the dog, the dog picks you" and is so true. I have a little dog that fostered her during her pregnancy, the puppies were adopted, and somebody took her (the mom) for adoption, in less than a month she escaped from that house and came back to me. After that, I couldn't let her go with another human, and now she's with me.

Their job is to rehabilitate animals because it takes a lot of time and effort and bring them to a new home no matter how gut-wrenching it is but they fell in love and said screw it.

My dog was returned before we got him. He had been in four other shelters before he got to ours. The guy said he only wanted to be outside and didn't want to spend time with his son. lots of people including dog owners seem to have absolutely no concept of respecting dogs, they just expect to be able to do whatever they feel like doing with a dog, and if the dog isn't happy about that, they think the dog is broken.

    • @bean9619
      @bean9619 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Some people are like that with children as well as pets. I've seen people have kids to fill some need or emotional hole for themselves and act like they are just excited to get some live doll to play with or something. Seriously do not have kids or pets if you are that selfish people! They both require a lot of work and patience and need to be respected as individual beings with their own emotions and needs.

have a similar story. i grew up with dogs my whole life. when i moved out on my own i lived in apartments for several years and when i bought my first house, i wanted a dog. I waited 6 months after and adopted a shelter dog. i brought her home and she just could not adjust to being in a home. she only knew the shelter the first 6 months of her life. i took her back to the shelter and asked if she had been abused because she was literally afraid of everything. it was the worst feeling of my entire life leaving her there until i had to go back and give her a second chance. like it was god telling me i had to go back and try again. aside from getting married and having a son, bringing my future best friend back into my home was the best decision of my life. 11 years later and she is literally the best friend i ever had. god bless you if you took the time to read this and hope it inspires you to always be kind to animals and let them into your lives if you have the means.

I raised many dogs from puppies but adopted Layla at a year and a half. Based on the paperwork this is her first real home. She had an intestinal parasite when I got her so after a week, I left her at the vet for some tests. She must have thought she'd been rejected again, after all the back room is full of kennels. She was very excited when I picked her up, but what really got to me was when we were home, she ran outside through the dog door, which I assumed meant she needed to pee. Instead, I watched her sprint to the end of the dog run and back in without stopping. The happiness in her eyes and overall excitement showed me how much it meant to her to finally have a home.

In the fostering circle, being a foster fail is a positive comment. It just means that you failed at placing them with someone else it doesn’t mean that you’re a failure. Very few fostering families don’t have at least one “failure” out of their time at fostering.

Of course. It is a mentally retarded beggar, unable to survive on its own abilities, so it's totally relying on a human for everything.
But it doesn't beg for much. It only begs for its food for life, its home for life, its vets for life and your precious time for the rest of its life.
But it pays you back! When it sees its everything-provider it wags its tail and licks him...
And we have agreed to call this... "unconditional love"!

      1. About "beggar":
All its survival capabilities have been bred out during the ancient human project of domesticating the wolfs.
So, the dogs can only survive depending on human charity.
They beg the humans for food and all other essentials for surviving, because they could not survive without the human help.
      2. About "mentally retarded".
The dog species came from ancient wolves after downgrade.
The today dog brain is 30% smaller than today wolf's. That's an average among all dog species.
Even a 6 month old wolf puppy easily outsmarts any adult dog on this planet.
So, dogs are mentally rearded compared to their ancestors.
If humans disappeared all other animals would be very happy but the dogs. The dogs would disappear 2-3 weeks after humans, when they would have consumed every human food leftovers. They can not hunt in order to survive. They lost this ability thousands years ago.
They are an incomplete species depending on other species (the human) for their survival.

I want to make sure the adopter and the dog fit well with each other. For instance, a dog like Chips would only go to a quiet household with people who are experienced working with fearful dogs and with reward based training backgrounds.
No younger kids, no busy lifestyle with people coming and going constantly and any other pets (sometimes another pet is the perfect thing to bring a fearful dog out of their shell) would have to be well matched personality wise.
Even then, sometimes I see people get starry eyed over a potential dog regardless of how well that dog would fit in their life, or they havent really any thought into the 10-15 year commitment of time, resources, and emotion owning a dog requires.

Food, understanding, time, scratches on the belly and petting on the ears. Snuggles on the couch. If you're the type that thinks dogs or cats belong in one space of the house or outside, not on the furniture or you don't have the time to put into a pet . We fostered a pup just like Chips. His name is Houdini, he escaped the euthanasia handler at the shelter, then escaped into the parking lot. He ended up back at the shelter a month later. K9 Spirit rescued him then brought him to us. Houdini was super sketchy, they can only assume he was a stray most of his life. It took him about 3 months before he trusted us. I would say about 1 year before he was a part of our pack. He's been with us for almost 6 years now, and he's not going anywhere.
We fostered easily in total about 30-40 different dogs over 7 years. For some of them that came from a kill shelter, when I saw them finally relax, I could see a relief from them like they haven't slept for days. We all know dogs can sense death, and when its close, so when they get rescued and get to a safe foster home they know its going to be okay. Nothing has ever been more rewarding than fostering dogs. Yes. Your heart breaks when you adopt them out, but they are alive, and a broken heart can heal, and love again. That is much easier than being trapped in a kennel, alone, unloved, then being put to death because your time is up. Be an amazing human and foster if you can. Many rescues who are well funded provide food, bowls and cover veterinary bills too, so you're just giving your home and your heart.

Sorry but if all one is willing to put in to a rescued pet is 2 days then they cop out then that tells me they are not legit pet people because even a dog raised from a new born pup is 11 to 15+ years of your time and effort. I have 3 dogs and all are rescued dogs when they were less than a year old. 1 is originally mine and the other two dogs I inherited by way of my brother's passing and my Mother's passing. I am single and hold a steady job from moving till evening and take all 3 dogs a good walk 4 to 6 days a week depending if the weather is good. I alone pay all their vet bills. It's a lot of work but I would never give them up because saying oh they are too much work. So from my point of view from a single Man with 3 dogs, if you're not willing to commit to a pet, then don't even consider it. Too many of my fellow Americans have become too darn selfish and physically lazy to put work in o a pet.

Folks shouldn’t have any dogs if they say, “too much work.” I had a cat that did the same thing. It took almost a week to get him to trust me. Afterwards it was like having a dog. Greeted me at the door meowing ferociously (hungry), slept on me wherever I was, came when I’d call him name and became fast friends with everyone who entered my house . That family’s name should be kept in the denied records for future reference.

So true, we were fostering a abused cat, I named Jelly Bean, since we had other cats, we set her up in our bedroom so she would get used to me being around , and feeding her. My husband had to go out of town, so it was just me at bedtime. It took 3 days of just coming in , sit on the bed and talk to her, not trying to touch her , just letting her know she was safe and had food and kitty litter. The third night I was half asleep when something was wiggling up the side of the bed under the covers, soon a little nose appeared and I just cuddled her for the rest of night. The next morning was a different cat, calm and ready to meet the rest of the gang. A little space, love and patience is what it takes. This was a fast turn around but she brought joy and laughter to our home and I still miss her.

@@myrnaskogland1268 Nice story. My aunt and cousin lost their dog (small poodle) and my cousin talked her mother into getting a German Shepard coonhound mix! Unfortunately her mother learned she had cancer. They wanted me to take the dog but I was not ready. Plus even though I was 4 hours away I was very involved with helping my aunt. Wouldn’t have been good for a dog at the time. I was a newbie too. They ended up returning Sydney to the shelter. No matter how little time you may have your dog or cat it makes life that much better.

I have a Chips Ahoy and she is slowly coming out her shell. She's wonderful and has this sweet wonderful gentle personality. She's still a trash hound but now when I catch she just looks at instead of running away in fear. It's fun to watch her decide if she's going to get in the trash or not. All I have to do is say her name and she walks away. These Chips Ahoys are not too much work; they are so worth the wait! My Chips Ahoy loves the cats and sleeps with them in the same bed. She makes me smile so often.

Isn't it wonderful seeing them come out of their shell and learn to love and trust again? It's amazing what patience, love and understanding can do. The damage/trauma didn't happen in one day...they likely endured it for a while. The healing isn't going to happen in one day either. Bless you for being patient and understanding with your Chips Ahoy and giving her unconditional love and a happy home. Stories like this give me hope for humanity. 💕
