  • After putting off this job for what seems like years. Well actually, it has been years. I take some time today and fix the broken roof on my 2012 Kioti DK40se; cab model. After some close encounters with trees and all sorts of other low-slung objects, I take my chances with a a fiberglass repair kit. Only one problem, I've never done any type of fiberglass repair. As you'll see in the video, things get hectic and a bit sticky as I scramble to make the best of a challenging situation. Sometimes I remind myself that regardless of whether it gets done well or gets done, it's still done! haha. Actually I prefer to do a good job on projects like this so check out some of the ways that you can learn from my mistakes and make any necessary repairs to your tractor roof using a similar fiberglass and resin kit.

Fiberglass is such a pain to work with. Good repair, but it's a tractor ;) Keep it dry inside, and strong so when you hit another tree, you won't cry about it...like I did last night ;) It was my first time cracking my roof :(........ Oh well, she WAS beautiful!
Thanks for the video, you helped me know what I'm gonna do to fix my smaller and more hidden damage!!!

Now I don’t feel like I’m the only one with the broken roof. Hope your repair goes smoothly. All the best

I use just the resin to fill holes in my woodworking. It's durable but softer than epoxy and sands well with softer woods. Use a very fine grit like 600 or higher for final sanding and it becomes see through. And cheaper than epoxy.

Isn’t fiberglass a blast to work with? I bought the kioti paint for touch ups before watching this. Any matches to the gray that you know of?

Rick Skirvin I’m going to drive even more carefully now as the thought of doing more fibreglass scares me away haha. I haven’t found the colour match for grey yet. I’ll keep you posted when I figure it out

If you'd taken the roof off you could have done all of that ugly repair on the underside and nobody would even know. Then you use just the resin (without any mat or cloth) on the outside to fill in any cracks or holes and that way it's easy to sand smooth, primer and paint. Wallah! I know it's just a tractor but I've seen your other videos.... you're capable of nice work. You're better than that. I'm not hatin or throwin shade. Nothin but love bruh. I agree that would be a better option. I figure I would patch it and likely replace if needed down the road

you should have disassembled the roof... it look butched :( I have a DK45SE and it was a pain to watch. you are the one who will live with it tho. I prefer when you are cutting wood! :)

Haha at least you’re honest. Yeah it does look butchered. I figured that even if I removed the top it wouldn’t look too much better since my Fiberglass skills are not that good. Also I figure that since I do so much work in the bush I’m bound to have it crack off something again

And this is why you don't buy used equipment...

Id buy a brand new top for the tractor if I ever needed to sell it. This is a temporary fix as I know it’s just a matter of time until I have something in the bush crack the plastic top again.

Sometime I get the itch to learn by doing
Sometimes (like this botch job) teaches me more about what not to do than anything else haha

@@sawingwithsandy well you're a better man than most? Most would just sand it down and hope the buyer doesn't look way up there.

bank80 yeah I’ve boughten things from guys like that. I put my name on it when i sell it so I have to be upfront. Had any bad experiences like that?
