I remember the science fairs and the huge mall partys with all the cool activities you could do it was amazing as a child and i love albertlea as a whole
Back in the 90’s this mall was bustling with hundreds of people shopping at a time. Shopko was a big loss for the mall. Then Herbergers. After that it’s been barely hanging on. Now the mall is up for sale I’ve heard. Oh the good old days…
it's pronounce "Loo tholds" The Mexican restaurant, Plaza, is FANTASTIC. Amazing ribs. The reason Mercy One from Mason City is coming to town is because Mayo has a monopoly over all the other clinics in southern Minnesota... And I mean ALL the clinics. People wanted options after Mayo moved a lot of services out of Albert Lea to Austin. I know of several people who would drive to Mason City for dr's visits because they're tired of Mayo. So Mercy One coming to town is being very well received.
Thanks for the proper pronunciation. That's my college German class messing with me. Good to also learn about Mercy One. Yeah, I've seen a ton of Mayo clinic during my mall visits.
Well guess what? I drove to Albert Lea hospital for kidney stone and I live 10 miles from Mercy, Mercy Me Hospital. Mercy don't care about anybody but the money.
Used to go here quite frequently. It's such a nostalgic mall, I've bought my three of my suits at Leutholds. Thanks for posting this video of the Mall of my teenage years at the movie theatre, food court and arcade. Those Albert Lea freeway signs go out pretty far from the city as well.
I have gone there many times, also the Mexican restaurant is really good in my opinion, also on birthdays you get free fried ice cream and some other foods that I can’t quite remember the name of.
Harbor Freight and Big Lots! to fill 2 of 3 spaces in the former Shopko store at Northbridge Mall. Currently looking on signing a 3rd national brand store in the coming weeks. I lived in Albert Lea for several years and always enjoyed shopping there. With the new stores, Mercy One clinic and repaving of the parking lot, Northbridge will be a great regional retail center once again. Lots of nice changes coming! Great video!
I just saw read that, too! Thanks for sharing. I was going to release an update video on the mall later this month, but I'm going to wait until after the new changes. If they bring back tenants to the food court, I'll grab a bite to eat some time. (I never seem to get there when the Mexican restaurant is open.)
This mall could be live and actually attract a crowd if it wanted too. Keep kids out of trouble etc, instead we’re just getting new coffee shops, liquor stores, and other useless stuff we don’t need. No food court, just plaza, the theater, pizza ranch. More hardware stores, this mall sucks. Has potential but it sucks. Whole town has been complaining for something here and we get nothing close.
The interior design of this mall reminds me for the former local mall in my area, Mall of the Bluffs in Council Bluffs, IA. Was most of the floor of Northbridge carpeted? It sure looks like it. Great video!
I am hoping malls make a comeback in the future. Northbridge is pretty cool :D Are you going to do the Outlet Center in Medford? I miss the restaurant before the Mexican restaurant was there.
What was the older restaurant? I probably won't film the mall in Medford unless it has an internal portion or something horrible happens and it becomes abandoned.
@@YodelingLoonRetail I don't remember the name, but it was a cafe if I remember. I was just wondering about Medford. How about the Southbridge mall since you mentioned it. I have been there only once like maybe 5 years ago.
I’m thankful that the new installations brought this mall back into relevance, essentially saving it, but I’m kinda sad that it’s not going to end up having an abandoned, liminal feeling.
I’ll have an update video soon about the new medical wing in the former Herbergers. I think it still has the original Herbergers restrooms, but I’d love a local to tell me if I’m right or wrong.
Thanks for sharing! I saw the Harbor Freight last month. I'll be making a new video probably for 2023 when it's all finished. I was able to snap some footage in September 2021 before they put up the glass entrance into the medical section.
I prefer entering THIS MALL from the back near Cinema 7. The mall needs revision. ShopKo should have never died. Its surprising the mall isn't demolished. Somebody put PULSE back into this beloved location.
I’ve been there, but didn’t film it. I plan to go before the end of the year. I love Southbridge. It was the first time I thought “Oh, wow, I’m in a Dan Bell video.”
That's so cool! It's weird how many people are in these photos. Even during a vendor fair, there weren't more than 20 people in the hallways. globegazette.com/news/local/new-year-new-mall-southbridge-businesses-hopeful-about-future-in-mason-city/article_51b0f2b5-0686-54d2-9422-7e3deed72480.html#:~:text=southbridge%20opening%2D33.&text=Mason%20City's%20Southbridge%20Mall%20opening%20day%2C%20May%2023%2C%201985.,-southbridge%20opening%2D34
It’s on my list! I gotta visit on a weekday when there isn’t a craft fair. I visited twice in 2019 and loved it, but I didn’t take any footage. I’m glad you were able to film it before they tore down the JC Penney.
We need a better mall with like a target. A foot locker. A Arby’s. We also need a American eagle. But our mall just gets places ran by old people and it’s just thrift stores and it’s so gross. The only good thing about the mall is the movie theater and that sports place. I think we deserve better because we don’t have any good shops in Albert Lea.
I could easily watch another 5 videos of this mall. Thanks for providing us an update!

I enjoyed your video on this. I heard you mention SouthPark Mall in Moline. Hoping you got photos when you visited there.
Not many, but I have plans to return in a couple of years. I’ll go sooner if necessary!

Dude great video!
Growing up in Albert Lea, I don't remember Only Deals being in the mall prior to 1999. Though I couldn't tell you what was there prior to Only Deals.
The interior design of this mall reminds me for the former local mall in my area, Mall of the Bluffs in Council Bluffs, IA. Was most of the floor of Northbridge carpeted? It sure looks like it. Great video!
Everything but the food court and back hallway were carpeted. Thanks for recommending Mall of the Bluffs. I love those ceilings.
Thank you. Originally the movie theater had 3 screens. They added space and screens and added the space where Dunham sports is located.
Ah, that's cool to know! Thanks for sharing.

Unfortunately MercyOne is no longer there
Sitting outside Northbridge right now, seen about 5 people inside total
I remember meeting mime here it was amazing he even attempted to talk to my aunt over the phone but couldnt say anything lol
Right now I am at north bridge mall while watching a video about northbrige mall 😂😂😂
I love it! I can't wait for my next road trip. I always stop at Northbridge when I travel south!
Harbor Freight, Big Lots and Dollar Tree are going in or are in now in the Shopko location. (Aug 2022)

I really liked this mall. Thank you so much.
Btw, is that an Osmo?
Thank you. Yes, it is an Osmo.

Nothing there! Should have left it as Federal Ave where all the stores were great. Mason City is a dead zone.
Plaza Morena is a great place to eat. So if you ever get the chance try the ribs. No joke.
I want to tour haunted malls myself
Only thing I remember is Rocky Rocco's pizza
Was the sports store closing or just having sales?
From what I could tell, they were just having a sales. I don't think seen a former Dunham's Sports, but it's possible they're out there.
You need to go to ultra outlet in Medford mn
SAD!
i live there
Book store gone.. H+R block is there
Gnc is gone
Jewelry store is Gone and the gym expanded into their space...
Shopko is now a harbor freight
