That's amazing! Some time lord was cruising up Broadway in his 1966 Pontiac GTO in 1964! (0:42) Way cool video though. I was 11 years old in 1966, so I remember all of this stuff that's not there anymore... like... most of it. Lol. Thanks for the memories, Ed!
+GazSAY321 Thanks Gary! I changed it to 1967 now. "Cool Hand Luke" is playing at the Rivoli Theater which is the year it came out. Although it could be 1968 as well.
I would have been 10 at the time. This footage sure jogs my memory. I try to remember how downtown use to look given all the changes. This brings me back to those happy memories! Thanks!
Thank you Edward Nelson for this cool video! I was raised and still live in Texas but I was born in Albert Lea in 1971. My parents moved to Texas when I was very young. Hopefully one day I can go back up there again to visit. Thank you again for the nice video.
I too was going to mention the newer GTO. I love the fact that he followed it and got good shots of it for so long. I wonder if anyone knows who it was in that beautiful GTO! I have only really been around since 1980 and am amazed at all that has gone away since then. I am really amazed at all that was here before then that I never got to see. What a shame.
Looks like an "open" winter. No snow but Fountain Lake was frozen. New football stadium is ready to host the Minnesota state champion Tigers in the fall of 1967 and again in 1968. And a 16 year old boy was starting his broadcasting career at KATE, a career that would continue for 48 years. Thanks for sharing.
I had just graduated from ALHS that spring and by this time I was working at my first job in Minneapolis. The downtown has changed quite a bit since then.
Before I was born in 69. I was born and raised and still live about 25 miles from there. Had family that lived in AL , up on circle drive above fountain lake. My Aunt just died this last winter and we just buried her this spring. I recognize many buildings that are still there though , but many I don't know.
My grandfather was born in Albert Lea, MN and they named him after the hero Albert Lea. His last name was Fairchild and he had a sister Blanche. I think some of my relatives are buried in Albert Lea, MN.
@@brewcrew1416 I thought it did burn down. Albert lea's population is down a little over the last 50 years because family size is down and not a lot of new industry came to Albert Lea.Too bad because their are at a great location being theiy're at the intersection of 2 interstate highways-35 and 90.
The people and the children truely enjoyed a more lucrative lifestyle back then, because the people and the community, in whole, had more money to spread around, simply because the people employed at Wilson & Sons Co. made alot alot of money back then.
The part of town this is filmed in is so run down now, there is a paining on a wall in town that says Coca Cola 5 cents and I wonder if it was there around this time

+Edward Nelson Good eye, Ed. I missed that clue. Didn't think to look at that too. Embarrassed. :D

I see "Cool hand Luke" on the Marquee of the Rivoli theater. That was released in November of 1967. "What we have here is a failure to communicate"
i live and albert lea preety nice place ive been over there for 6 years
Just the year before we came to AL. What a lot of memories to see the old KFC and to see the downtown alive. Thanks Ed.

Armando Cornejo You're welcome! Some day I'll have to do a current one to show the difference.
@@EdCamVideoOh! and What a difference!.. moved to A.L. when I was 4 years old.. now I'm nearly 62.

To think Bob was literally a couple weeks old when this was filmed.

Many years later I also started my professional broadcasting career at KATE(and KCPI)

Charlotte Fairchild, I know some people with the last name Fairchild in al
Hmmm? At 1:47 is that Wilson's meat packing plant? I worked there in 1973. This brings back memories.
Did it burn down? Which made the apbert lea population go down?
Albert lea

How did you get such good quality from 8mm film? I have film from earlier in and around Albert Lea but the quality nowhere near this good.
+kites0852 How are you transferring? Size of screen, etc.? Do you have any of yours posted?
The condition of the film was excellent.
That would have been my first Christmas in AL. Didn't know it was brown.

What's the point of this?
Love Spreader it's l life back in the 60s. So many buildings and businesses have changed.
More fun for people who lived here then.
