Nice video! I live a few blocks away from your beginning location. Here is my tips, try to drive the car until 5% before you go to the next supercharger and only do this only on the road trips. (This trip should decrease from 4 SC stop to 2 SC stops). Since the car will charge the fastest from 5% to 50%. Also drive below 70mph the whole time. This should save you at least 1 hour from SF to SD.
The video taught me an important lesson. If I don’t have a Tesla and own a normal gasoline car, I would reach my destination hours earlier than someone in a Tesla (cuz of wait times at supercharger). As they say, time is money, I would stick to a gasoline engine for the foreseeable future I guess
So at this point and time EVs aren’t for everyone. It really depends on your use case. If you do lots of road-trips and don’t like to take breaks, then EVs aren’t the best choice for you. If you do very few road tips, then EVs are amazing for daily driving. For your use case, I’d recommend looking into plug in hybrids. Specially the RAV4 Prime. 40+ miles on battery and still has the advantages of a gas powered engine for long road trips.
People don’t realized that most times charging stations are located near food or shopping areas so although you save on charging prices you end up buying random stuff to kill the time. I always buy random stuff at target when I charge my Tesla 🤦🏽♀️ 😅
Thanks for the video man. I’m about to make a trip up to SF and back to San Diego in April. Pretty excited about it. But I’ll be leaving at 9pm from San Diego so it’ll be at night so I don’t think I’ll be able to see the Tesla cafe :(
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the vid. At least you’ll so if the traffic. You might be able to access the lounge, I’m not sure. Barista won’t be there though
So the charging alone added about an hour and a half to two hours to your travel time alone vs about 10 to 15 minutes to fill up on gas. And that's not including driving out of the way to some charging stations vs gas stations that are everywhere and right along highways. And if I was traveling at night I would not want to be charging my car in the back of a mall or anywhere. On top of that if a charging station is full then that adds to the wait. The less range an electric car has, the more of a hassle they are for long road trips. And most EVs average around 250+/- . An EV with about 500 mile range would be more practical for long distance. Unfortunately the only only ones even near that are like 100k plus. But whatever floats your boat. I wouldn't mind an electric car but the range and charge times are an issue.
Yeah filling up a gas car would be much faster. I'd say it really depends on the type of road trip driver you are. I personally would need to stop every 3-4 hours and take a break so I don't mind charging. I do have some friends that like drive straight with no breaks. So they wouldn't like an electric car.
@@Teslatainment yeah. Just depends on each person. I am not against EVs, just waiting for one that fits my needs and has a long range and more affordable. Sigh. Would like a 4x4 type EV with range because where I live and where I take it I need more than all wheel drive. I know some people that own Teslas and they love them and one who didn't. Off the subject, someone I know who owns a Tesla recently told me has a riding lawn mower and he had to get gas for it and he felt stupid pulling into a gas station with his gas can in a Tesla. Lol.
@@bubbalo3388I'm considering the Ioniq 6 SEL bc it has 361mi of range and can add 150mi of range in just over 9min at a 350kw charger. By summer there will be at least 4-5 options, all w/ 360-400mi of range. The 800V/480kw tech will be added to the sub $50k vehicles soon.
@@adamneill9237don't know if technology has changed, but fast charging and up to 100% consistently was not a good thing as it degrades the batteries faster. Once in a while was ok so it may not be an issue for most people. And some say they their range hasn't degraded greatly. To achieve the full 361 mile range you would have to charge to 100% which would take longer because when you hit 80% then the charging slows down greatly to protect the battery. So on your first leg of the trip starting from home you can get 361 miles. But realistically day to day at home you can get 288 miles of range at 80% charge. Trips on the road at public charging stations you say you can get 150 miles of range in 9 minutes. Well that's still a lot of stops if your trips are long ones. But may not be a problem for people who don't go far. And charging infrastructure is still a problem for non Teslas. It comes down to individual needs and wants. Most people don't take really long trips so it may not be an issue and it works. But yes it would be great when EV prices become more affordable with more range. I still think a PHEV with at least a 50+ all electric range is the have your cake and eat it too vehicle. Run on electric daily but can be free of charging stations on long trips. My hybrid Ioniq is averaging around 50mpg now so it'll do for now. Good luck on your purchase if you decide on it.
I'm excited for you! It's doing good. I've driven it for about 53k+ miles so far. In terms of maintenance and repairs I've had to pay for - New set of tires - Tire rotations (Free when you buy from Discount Tires) - Replaced a cracked windshield - Replace a cracked rim - Replace the 12v battery (not the main car battery) Are you able to charge the car at home? Or have a place where you can easily charge? In my opinion, that will make or break the Tesla ownership experience.
@@Teslatainment nice! Got my car for a week now and its super fun and easy to drive really like it. Yes i have free charging and free fsd since i work at the fremont so i just leave it plugged in while i work and if ever i need more juice there are super chargers near me 😀
Love the specifics. Is there an app to share this data and combine with mine in Oregon? Waze for Tesla. I use A better route planer and the car suggtions.
Didn’t save much vs a gas car. It’s about 500 miles from SF to SD. If a gas car gets 25 mpg you need 20 gallons of gas. About $4-5$ per gallon for gas that’s $80-$100 without the hassle of stopping for so many times and also waiting for your car to charge.
In addition, with gas car you usually don’t buy so many coffee/shitFromVendingMachines to kill the time waiting for tank to be filled up. Making such a trip by a gas car you need to stop once (in the restaurant YOU prefer) for a lunch to eat good warm meal. So, electric vehicle isn’t really suitable for anything except everyday commuting with overnight charging at home.
@@AlexS-gn9tq I just bought one with standard range and I regret it. If you buy a Tesla get the long range or don’t buy it. Mine is supposed to give me 250 miles per charge but it’s less than 200 miles in reality that’s half a tank.
@@toanoi Yeah rock chips on the front bumper. I do take it out on a lot of road trips. At the very least, I wished I covered the front of the car with PPF
Yeah if someone is the type of driver that likes to straight shot (minimal and short stops) to their destination ICE is better for them. I do like to get out and stretch my legs so charging is a minor inconvenience for me.
Really hope they can bring supercharger prices down at some point
Yeah... it has definitely going up in the past year or so
In some countries, charging costs now exceed gas prices. Energy companies are not going to let their profits go.

Could the first supercharger charge slower because there wasn’t sufficient battery to precondition itself?

This proves that EV's on long road trips suck. Leave EV's to driving around town, and use ICE vehicles for long drives.
