So much about this review was magical. I am 10 minutes in. The quote ‘Is this a peach fucking situation again? Did you fall asleep?’ Is one of the best from your channel. I so enjoy your film reviews.
Yes! This is the MovieBitches review I’ve been waiting for! Also, in regards to Gaga’s buck wild Oscar campaign: The critic Joe Reid made a pretty convincing argument that Gaga was intentionally doing a burlesque of the “serious method actor”, in the same kind of way that her Oscar campaigning for A Star Is Born was basically a parody of the “just discovered ingénue”. I don’t know if it’s true, but I want to believe.
Most people I would say no way, but Gaga I can almost believe is just out here doing drag of different types of actors when promoting her films. I mean press seems super dull so why not?
Salma's husband is like the president or something of the company that currently owns the Gucci brand so I assume that she was given the role as a gesture of good will to the company despite her seeming inability or unwillingness to even try changing her accent.
I skipped to the Dune part. It was so great! Like the David Lynch version is fun in it's own way, but it's starts with the crazy long exposition about spice and guilds and galactic empires. And the movie expects you to remember it. I love that Villeneuve was like, "We're not doing that. You'll figure it out." lol
It did say 1978 in a title card at the start of the movie which Avaryl obviously missed completely. I was not nearly as confused by the time frame as she was when I watched it. Not saying it was done well but still.
I found one of those Tom Ford/Gucci velvet mens jackets in a thrift store. Did it fit in the shoulders? Mostly. Did I wear it until it literally fell apart? Mostly. Was I super hype when I saw it in that runway scene? Most definitely.
When they sing Happy Birthday not once, BUT TWICE in English, that’s when I realised how dumb they thought the audience was. Did they think we wouldn’t understand happy birthday sung in Italian?!
you guys should totally do reviews of the live action scooby doo movies with sarah michelle gellar, linda cardellini, and matthew lillard! it would be everythinggggggg
I'll never watch movies like this but I really like that they exist so that I can watch both of you try to make sense of it (and failing) because it really does get funnier every time!
9:4312:2118:12 ok LOVING the plot twist that this is actually a sequel to the it: chapter 2 review where andrew hasn't seen the film and avaryl explains it it to him 😂
Actually the discussion of accents and language work reminded me of this documentary of the making of Amadeus (which is my favorite biopic because it’s not historically accurate, the story structure is fantastic) but milos Forman said that he deliberately did not want the actors to do accents because it would take you out of story he was trying to convey and I think more people need to consider that when they make movies. Because when I watch Amadeus I am not bothered by the accents, I’m focused on the acting and character choices. Like Tom hulce’s performance is camp enough where it is memorable but serious enough where you care about the character.
My partner and I were fascinated by the accent choices as well. It was neat, because it gave me an insight into the question, “What if the Super Mario gang produced and acted in a drama(dy?) about Gucci.” I think Toad would have made a good fortune teller, I am thinking the Crone from Yoshi’s Island would be Lady Gaga’s character (I don’t think Peach has enough edge for the role…)
Also also, one last thing, did the screenwriters or actors listened to Belinda blinked because the terribly hilarious sex scene and the very specific folding of the jacket…very Belinda…one of the screenwriters did write under the cherry moon so maybe all they know is bad sex scenes
Before the movie came out, I had the nerve, the gall, the audacity and the gumption to post a comment under a Gaga Daily video. The video was a comparison between Gaga and the real Patrizia Reggiani. Basically I tried to explain why her accent sounds fake to us Italians (from Italy) and oh boi were they mad. it was fun 🙃
I am so excited to watch you guys talk about this movie. I couldn't believe they let lady gaga talk in every interview about how she stayed in character with the accent the whole time filming. Like, with that accent?
Last year my college got Lady GaGa's acting coach to teach a masterclass for my senior acting class. We did all our monologues and she basically was like "you all bored me and I didn't get anything from you" and then proceeded to tell us that in order to be a great actor you have to endure as much trauma and pain as you can or else you're not acting. It was rough. I worry about Lady GaGa because of this class.
What I find so ludicrous about this movie is that its failure Is entirely in the disjointed screenplay. Yes, some of the acting and directing choices are bad, but if the script was tight, cohesive, and more focused, it would have been better. It’s like every actor was fighting to be the main character in an ensemble film. Ultimately, I think Adam Driver is supposed to be the main character, but the most interesting story here would be how Gaga plotted to kill him and that’s barely shown.
I think the problem is they didn’t translate well the book into a script. The book is about the whole House of Gucci, that would’ve worked on a miniseries, but in a movie they should’ve focused on the relationship between Maurizio and Patrizia and how it deteriorated into murder. By doing an ensemble piece we got very little development for every character.
I'm adding House of Gucci to my "movies to watch while wasted" list, Andrew sold it for me. Last time I chose to watch Everything Everywhere All at Once wasted and it was a very poor choice, this sounds much more fun.
Yay another movie review! Drag race is fun but this stuff is really my favorite. Love the accents lmao, also yay so glad you liked Dune! So excited for the next one!
I'm so glad I watched this review, because you helped me discover the video of Taron Egerton staring dreamily at Hugh Jackman with saxophone music. Best thing I've seen all week.
My favorite part of the real story, she was eligible for parole, but she refused it, because she didn't want to work. She basically pissed, because if he remarries she got half of her alimony, which still tons of money, but she said it's just pocket money... The real Maurizio was kinda asshole, I mean he she just left her in their Swiss house I guess, then messaged to her he wants to divorce, the way he handled the whole situation, it was an asshole move.
i saw an early screening of this and I really enjoyed it. i saw it with an audience who was taking it seriously. it was a real filmic experience for me at the time. the audience DID laugh at *spoiler* the gift card. (The gift card was not invented until 1994. what was Adam Driver doing giving Lady Gaga a gift card in the late 80s!?) that's maybe when an awareness of camp came up. it wasn't until weeks after when the reviews came in that i realized "House of Gucci" might be Bad and it blew my mind.
I remember when they released a first look of Adam and Gaga, I was genuinely so confused as to why this Asian American couple from the ‘70s was trending. It took me a solid hour to realize who they were. And even when I knew it was Adam in the photo, I still kept seeing him as a Japanese-American rich businessman who was happy to finally visit the snowy mountain tops of Japan with his gorgeous wife.
I feel like the direction had to be bad because all the acting choices were bad haha. I couldn't tell if Maurizio was just shy or if it was an offensive portrayal of someone on the spectrum. Or if he was literally an alien who has never had a human interaction before lol.
Believe or not the actual Patrizia is way more camp and insane than what you saw on screen! The funny thing with the costumes is that Patrizia did not dress in Gucci because the brand was not popular at that time, but I guess dressing the main character in Valentino and Chanel for the Gucci movie wouldn't be the best marketing strategy. Also, Tom Ford's tenure didn't match with Maurizio's so that's a mess.
I just don’t understand why you aren’t hired by these people to fix their goddamn movies! Your choices to fix the movie seem spot on. Also, maybe I’m wrong, but it seemed that they didn’t have a single Italian person in the writer’s room
That guttural sound in the beginning of Dune is not a Sandworm, but she sound of the Saurdukar, the soldiers that the Baron hires :) Josh Brolin's character shows up more in the following books/films.
Selma really said... I'm shooting Eternals and House of Gucci together... So no thank you, I will not be doing any character work and will stick with my accent.
The way that the characters used Italian in this is literally how foreign characters talk in fanfics written by Americans. Everything is in English, except for a couple little small stock phrases, little nicknames/petnames, and some swear words.
This movie (because i will not call it a film) was... an experience. and if it didn't have Gaga attached, id just call it a mess ps i do hope you have a Death on the Nile review in the works since your Orient Express is one of my favorites reviews you two have done xoxo
*THANK YOU for calling out bad wigs.* This is a public service you are performing. Getting really upset with the bro movie directors who spend millions on special effects... and $25 on hair and make-up. (Aquaman Movie, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, looking at you.)
But can Jared Leto act, tho? I think I've heard several recent discussions on whether he can or can't. Apparently Morbius is terrible but he's good in WeCrashed? Anyway, love seeing you both in the same room!
Well it probly depends on the movie, his mindset and ur opinion. I have liked some of his roles (though i have a low bar) but i generally dislike his approach, like its always about stunts or too much/fake, he tends to stick out like a sore tumb.
In Requem for a dream he was… there? Jennifer Connelly clearly carried that movie together with Ellen Burstyn but all I remember is twink Leto and the abs on Marlon.
If you like Kenneth Branagh's Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, I think you'd like Francis Ford Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula. It's wildly camp (and WInona Ryder and Keanu Reeves' accent work is horrendous)
No, historical accuracy in Dracula. How they travel in that movie, no, it doesn't make sense, I am 100% you can't travel like that. It's campy and somehow popular, and because of this book and movies people do horrible things.
I wonder which movie had the better fake Italian accents, house of Gucci or little Italy? After watching the trailer, I knew I couldn’t take this movie seriously and that is mostly due to Jared Leto. Why is that every movie he is attached to involves some sort of physical transformation?

ANDREW!! I did the EXACT same thing for DUNE. It literally blew my mind 🤯 and was the second best movie going experience (second to CATS because I cried laughing and the whole theater cheered and clapped at the end 😹). I'm so glad you both loved it! Oscar Isaacs can GET IT. Denis Villeneuve makes the best sci-fi movies. I also cried laughing at how your Dune review was in the middle of this terrible movie review. Gucci is the terrible part, your reviews are always the BEST. I both want to never watch Gucci but also need to get drunk and watch Gucci 🤣🤣🤣
A good example of unobtrusive accent work was Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It's set in Sweden with everyone speaking English, though the accents were subtle and in Daniel Craig's case, nonexistent. And it didn't matter. Just let them keep their accents.
But why not just move the story to America? It doesn't have to be Sweden, it's not important to the story. It would have been more interesting seeing a full on American version of it.
@@GrainneMhaol It was already told. We already had a Swedish version so no point in doing again unless you do something different. Move it to America and it might have been interesting instead of just a copy of the one we already had.
@@GrainneMhaol You understand of course that different countries have different cultures and an American showing up essentially making an American film might as well take place in America. There is literally nothing Swedish about that film except names and places. Even the characters doesn't behave like a Swedish person would. But i guess to you Americans everything is just like in your country.
I was puzzled too at first, but then I started thinking. (I know most people hate doing that) Gucci in the 80s was very muted/brown/earth tones. That was their brand, which was clearly shown when Jared Leto proposed bright colors for a new line and his father laughed at him. This was a popular luxury brand that was struggling to evolve. So the muted art direction really helped communicate the atmosphere of that struggle. Also Patricia’s life before meeting Maurizio was very depressing- she wanted more from life. So it makes sense that we see her in a dull melancholy world. The neon triangles we associate with the 80s was not here. And that’s OK.
@@powder-blue I wasn't really thinking of neon triangles (that seems more American to me) more like deep blues and if course dark red, green & Flora print. But there's more than one way to tell a story & if that's not what they were going for, as you say, that's fine
I've watched enough bad Madonna movies to know this one would never lift off. Sorry for your suffering and thank you for your entertaining review of this dud xD
The accents were baffling to me, they just made everything into a comedy..The real story is actually quite interesting, here in Italy there have been plenty of interviews to Patrizia, (in one she has a parrot on her shoulder the whole time) and she is such a crazy character..too bad they treated it like that..Gaga was definitely channelling Faye Dunaway!
of the 225 films i watched last year, house of gucci was my far the worst :/ but i do feel i jinxed it for myself by reading the book it was based on which was so much more interesting. The film left out her brain aneurysm???
About Dune and House being long, With Batman being out I was very shocked to learn that it’s only 2 minutes longer than The Sound of Music…. I guess I can never say I film is too long ever again.
Ok so like now Gaga has to direct her house of Gucci with the hairdresser as her assistant. Also I'm so glad y'all are back in person the green screen was so distracting.
Teddy Ruxpin was my favorite toy/friend as a child. I shared in Avril's giddy moment there. Oh yeah, this movie is a cluster fuck within a train wreck.
My personal biggest disappointment is I think there are FAR too few fashion in general movies that get to discuss the topic of clothing, and this film FULLY disregards the subject of fashion in general.
i think im one of the few people who wholeheartedly adored this film - saw it twice in cinemas sober and i just thought it was so camp (but. tbh i also liked Cats) loved this review though - the hard cut from lady Gah-Ga! talking about studying animals and The Scene ™️ was inspired
God I’ve been waiting patiently for you guys to come back with more movie reviews, and I just bought your SHARK RING OF FIRE shirt on threadless, I LOVEEEEE IT
Katya said something along the lines of: "You cannot convince me that this movie isn't just an Olive Garden commercial" and... I feel that.

The best part about lady Gaga in this movie is that you can legitimately question if she is self-aware
Considering this is Gaga, whose debut album is “the Fame” and it’s basically a masters thesis on fame in America. It’s true.
i dont think its true
Nah, she’s giving annoying theater kid on steroids

Aaron Taylor-Johnson actually does a great impersonation of Tom Ford - There's a clip of him doing it on the (ugh) James Corden show on TH-cam.
Why do we hate James cordon again ?
@@RR-qz3zg many many reasons
Had to go through the excrutiating 3 hours of this movie on my birthday... fell asleep twice, woke up and it still wasn't over
If you guys don't manage to shoehorn that line from Pinocchio into every video this year, I will be VERY disappointed!
I disturbed the cat whilst watching this because I was laughing too hard
Finally a movie review and finally the two of them in a room not via Zoom.
Not for nothing, my Italian immigrant grandfather pronounces 'mouse' as 'moose.' It's cute AF
You're back in the same room? The glasses really clinged? Loooooooove it!
Haven't seen the film, I'm 10 minutes in the review, and have gasped multiple times at the wigs and outfit: wtf
Ooohh episode 259,
There better be something epic for 269 😆
Yes! So glad to see you two back together in the same room! Love the review! Also, I still do say "I'll wait until it comes out on home video" haha
I've watched enough bad Madonna movies to know this one would never lift off. Sorry for your suffering and thank you for your entertaining review of this dud xD
Madonna sure had a lot of awful movies, but also quite few good ones like "Desperately Seeking Susan", "A League Of Their Own", "Evita".
The accents were baffling to me, they just made everything into a comedy..The real story is actually quite interesting, here in Italy there have been plenty of interviews to Patrizia, (in one she has a parrot on her shoulder the whole time) and she is such a crazy character..too bad they treated it like that..Gaga was definitely channelling Faye Dunaway!
the west side story mention reminded me i NEED a review of the spielberg version OMG please tell me it's coming
of the 225 films i watched last year, house of gucci was my far the worst :/ but i do feel i jinxed it for myself by reading the book it was based on which was so much more interesting. The film left out her brain aneurysm???
Why didn't I find this channel earlier 😭💟💟💟
I love how this kinda turned into a Dune 2022 review😂🤣😂🤣😂 🖤🖤🖤🖤
But like why don’t we have a full review of Dune 😭
Ah thank you for recording what I felt about this movie. What a swing and a miss. Also the Mini Review of Dune was great, love that movie!
god i miss when kenneth branagh's movies were campy and schlocky and fun instead of just,,, bad
To be totally fair the open line is the Sardaukar - the additional fighting force of the Harkonnen - and not a sandworm.
About Dune and House being long, With Batman being out I was very shocked to learn that it’s only 2 minutes longer than The Sound of Music….
I guess I can never say I film is too long ever again.
I have to disagree about the soundtrack. I don't care if it's 'lazy,' most of the songs are brilliant. It sounds like the best part of the movie.
Can Jared Leto act??? Has he just dazzled us all with his looks??
A question for the ages.
Ok so like now Gaga has to direct her house of Gucci with the hairdresser as her assistant.
Also I'm so glad y'all are back in person the green screen was so distracting.
I’m so excited for this review!! Someone def needs to redo this movie I swear!
Soooo this review really made me want to rewatch Dune...so I will.
"Sophia Loren. She's ageless, she's Cher" 😅😍
12:32 Andrew shows here the long-term effects of poppers use
i think im one of the few people who wholeheartedly adored this film - saw it twice in cinemas sober and i just thought it was so camp (but. tbh i also liked Cats)
loved this review though - the hard cut from lady Gah-Ga! talking about studying animals and The Scene ™️ was inspired
Not even a comment on Jared Leto's F-bomb immediately cutting to the car horn??? I laughed so hard I had to pause the movie...!
The perfect gift on a Friday after a long week…
God I’ve been waiting patiently for you guys to come back with more movie reviews, and I just bought your SHARK RING OF FIRE shirt on threadless, I LOVEEEEE IT
same here, I am here for the movie reviews.
