Check your phone carefully before buying this part!! Depending on your S4 and provider - Part L720 may vary slightly. I had to find this part with an additional antennae connector on the left (I noticed the phone in the video does not have this). This video helped me fix my S4 that accidentally was submerged in water for over an hour. The charge port was completely internally oxidized and not charging the next day - but the phone had no other issues. Rather than pay my cell providers insurance co-pay $150 for a replacement phone (that's a refurb anyway) or the $90 repair fee. I decided to follow your instructions. Best thing ever. My beautiful phone is fully operational after $12 and 10 minutes!!

I think it gets thumbs down because like myself I wouldn't dream of attempting this. It is bad enough my phone doesn't work without me breaking it all together. Getting a professional to repair it is still less than a new phone. :-)
My Samsung s3 mini didn't charge so i took in to the shop and got a replacement for free since I know them. The replacement phone is also not charging? I've tried two chargers, it seems there is an angle which you have to get it to in order to charge it, and when the phone is on it tells me it is charging but realistically it isn't... Anyone help? Might both my chargers be incompetent?

I have an s3 that will charge but the PC won't recognize it. I initially thought it was a driver/software issue but it started working when I bought a new cable. The cable died on me and I'm back to not being able to sync. Will this method for me or should I just try another cable?
The thing is that the original factory cable that used to transfer/charge my phone is the one stopped transferring, although charging still works fine. It used to work perfectly and just suddenly stopped data transfer one day, which is why I had to buy a new cable.

My Samsung Galaxy S3's USB port died recently while under warranty. After muddling through boost and Samsung support, I decided to send it in for repairs. One week later, Samsung sent my phone back in the SAME CONDITION, and the reason being on the sheet was that my phone was "beyond repair" due to "Pad lifted on the I/F connector." This meant that it would cost them more than what the phone was worth in order to fix the problem (well that's what they told me.) This was a phone that had been kept in its case since day one, never touched water, screen in perfect condition, never tampered with the insides, and the only issue was the mechanical failure of the USB port that Samsung could have easily replaced. I did a little bit of research online and found out that the USB port could be replaced with a $5 little replacement part and some re-soldering on the board. No replacement of the logic board, nothing invasive or expensive. I contacted phone repair shops for quotes on a repair like this, and they ranged from $40-$60. This was a repair that should have been covered under my warranty, and I am disgusted with Samsung's level of service. So my phone wont connect to the PC or charge. I will never buy anything from Samsung ever again. This phone was a waste of $250 that I paid here at amazon. Note: I just bought a external charger and battery from amazon so I can use my phone. Just placed an order on amazon.com. Just open up the phone like he was doing until you see the speaker motherboard area. It should have a reference on it (I have a T-mobile Galazy S4 so, for me it was: SGH-M919) or something. (Have to make sure it's the right one.) Search it on ebay or whatever your preference is. (SGH-M919 USB PORT) I found one for about $14. It's shipping, i'll post an update to whoever cares to read this whenever it gets here and I put it together.
Nice tutorial. I have a LG G3, it charges but the phone is not recognised by my PC and USB OTG not working, I have tried everything mentioned in Google, TH-cam and XDA developers. I found out you can't fix it so you need to buy a new battery or phone (depending on what phone you have) The reason is, is that the battery has blown from using the phone when it was charging and that ruins it
Taking you back a bit since you made this video. What I’ve done: Installed new battery charged over night next morning hone was hot would not start. Thought I might of had a bad battery so I ordered another. Same problem? Ordered another OEM battery, watched your video and replaced charge jack, and replaced brick/charge cable. Checked new battery voltage 3.8VCD. Checked voltage corresponding pins in the phone and get a less than 0.5VDC. When I inserted the new battery phone went into normal charge mode with battery charge symbol and red led upper left corner. Checked a couple hours later and phone was warm but no longer charging? Took the battery out and measured voltage at 2.2VDC. Only use phone for Bluetooth in my garage and has never gotten wet. Working one day and next not. Any idea whats going on? In your opinion is it worth repairing? Only part left is the mother board. Advice would be appreciated! Thanks! Joe

Your vid is fab! I had a little rainwater on my Samsung Galaxy Note 4. I placed in it a proper AF Tech-Rescue Kit with the little sachets to dry it out for 3 days, having removed the SIM card, battery and S_Pen etc. It has slowly returned to full function - all except for the speakers. I sound like a dalek on the 'phone and it is impossible to carry on a proper conversation or to play music due to the poor, scratchy sound quality. I am devastated as this is the best smart phone ever! Is there any hope for the speakers???

Hi... Looks like I corrupted 2 Samsung S4's I was trying to install a custom recovery , not knowing anything about their stock recoveries..., and They froze up on me.... Do you know of another way to Format the boot and reinstall another ROM on it..? I have access to lots of roms and programs now... I just hate throwing the 2 phones out... Can they be fixed...?????

My galaxy s4 has corrosion in the charging port and won't charge unless i hook it to my laptop and sometimes i have to fight with it then. When i hook it to the wall, it will not charge and when i turn it off connected to the charger, it just vibrates like every 5 seconds. In case anyone has the S4 i9506 model and can't find a charging flex cable for it, I just replaced mine with the i9505 charging flex (rev19) and it works, my phone did have a rev25 in it but it seems fine.

thanks my phone is now charging while I use it the port was loose so replacing it was my only option & your vids was the only one that showed what happens when u turn ur phone back on its deffintly different to a PC & new hardware where u need to install software but on a phone u dont need to install software for new charging port & I have never seen an android phone on the inside its bloody like a computer since it is my first android phone the only prob is I have to reinstall my wallpaper on my phone but I guess that's because I had to take out my SD card ether way it worked
Before doing this make sure the battery isn't bad or overly discharged. If it won't power up it may just be discharged too far. You can find videos on TH-cam about repairing batteries with a cut USB cable. If you do this, always use a charger and not your computer to charge the over discharged phone so you can't fry the USB port by making a mistake.
Just finished replacing the external connector on my Samsung S4. Spudger came with the board. Changed out in about 30 minutes tops. I found it best to watch the video all the way through first then go back and do the job. Everything works perfect.

By chance I was looking up the Samsung note 3 power cord, when I came across you video on the is s4 not charging problem ( which mine had ) I watched your video and saw how really easy it was to fix. You video was concise and well videoed, my wife did this repair ( she is a gadget person) and repaired my phone in 20 minutes. the only thing she has some problems with was the USB shield was a bit hard to remove. All in all this was informative and well done.
So this works as well for a temperature too high problem, but make sure ALL the screws and cover are back. You CANNOT test this, like in the video. But thanks anyway :)
I change the flex cable on my s4 and its still stuck charging at at usb mode. the phone detect wall charger as usb mode when plugged into a wall charger amd the pc cant detect the phone.

Just done this awesome and I'm no tech wiz put it this way I drive a bin lorry for a living. Used the part from my old s4 the rev numbers where different as well swap rev19 for rev25 bit they did look identical.

Just installed my flex cable and fixed my water damaged charge port! Just a tip - when removing the back casing start at the bottom by the charge port. I caused minor damage by the volume buttons not knowing where the clips were.
I have a Galaxy S2 T989 i'm looking online for a usb charging port flex cable but can't seem to find one with the same model number as mine. Does the model number of my phone matter if it matches with the piece or will I be able to use another type of model's piece as well ?

One week later, Samsung sent my phone back in the SAME CONDITION, and the reason being on the sheet was that my phone was "beyond repair" due to "Pad lifted on the I/F connector." This meant that it would cost them more than what the phone was worth in order to fix the problem (well that's what they told me.) This was a phone that had been kept in its case since day one, never touched water, screen in perfect condition, never tampered with the insides, and the only issue was the mechanical failure of the USB port that Samsung could have easily replaced. I did a little bit of research online and found out that the USB port could be replaced with a $5 little replacement part and some re-soldering on the board. No replacement of the logic board, nothing invasive or expensive. I contacted phone repair shops for quotes on a repair like this, and they ranged from $40-$60. This was a repair that should have been covered under my warranty, and I am disgusted with Samsung's level of service. So my phone wont connect to the PC or charge. I will never buy anything from Samsung ever again. This phone was a waste of $250 that I paid here at amazon.
Note: I just bought a external charger and battery from amazon so I can use my phone. Till I get a new phone.

Just open up the phone like he was doing until you see the speaker motherboard area. It should have a reference on it (I have a T-mobile Galazy S4 so, for me it was: SGH-M919) or something. (Have to make sure it's the right one.) Search it on ebay or whatever your preference is. (SGH-M919 USB PORT) I found one for about $14.
It's shipping, i'll post an update to whoever cares to read this whenever it gets here and I put it together.

Nice tutorial. I have a LG G3, it charges but the phone is not recognised by my PC and USB OTG not working, I have tried everything mentioned in Google, TH-cam and XDA developers. i have the Samsung Galaxy s4, I9505, the European model (says UK on the battery), bought in Europe. I havent opened the phone to see the REV # bcos i dont have the right tools to unscrew the screws yet. There's a seller on Amazon that is selling "usb charging port flex cable for s4 I9505/ International" but it doesnt say what REV it is. Do you think it is the right part, should i get order it?

I found out you can't fix it so you need to buy a new battery or phone (depending on what phone you have) The reason is, is that the battery has blown from using the phone when it was charging and that ruins it

Taking you back a bit since you made this video. What I’ve done: Installed new battery charged over night next morning hone was hot would not start. Thought I might of had a bad battery so I ordered another. Same problem? Ordered another OEM battery, watched your video and replaced charge jack, and replaced brick/charge cable. Checked new battery voltage 3.8VCD. Checked voltage corresponding pins in the phone and get a less than 0.5VDC. When I inserted the new battery phone went into normal charge mode with battery charge symbol and red led upper left corner. Checked a couple hours later and phone was warm but no longer charging? Took the battery out and measured voltage at 2.2VDC. Only use phone for Bluetooth in my garage and has never gotten wet. Working one day and next not. Any idea whats going on? In your opinion is it worth repairing? Only part left is the mother board. Advice would be appreciated! Thanks! Joe

Can you repair galaxy 3 tabs? My kiddies one started by not charging when on... then not being recognised by computer (think she buggered up the charging pins???) Now won't turn on. I tried a simple Un plug the battery for 30 seconds but nothing. Any idea? Is it just a new charging socket needed???

Your vid is fab! I had a little rainwater on my Samsung Galaxy Note 4. I placed in it a proper AF Tech-Rescue Kit with the little sachets to dry it out for 3 days, having removed the SIM card, battery and S_Pen etc. It has slowly returned to full function - all except for the speakers. I sound like a dalek on the 'phone and it is impossible to carry on a proper conversation or to play music due to the poor, scratchy sound quality. I am devastated as this is the best smart phone ever! Is there any hope for the speakers???
It must be a weak point on these phones as I never got chance to take it out of house and it ran down 1 time while I had owned it for 3 weeks and never came up with the screen any more £300 for 3 weeks well worth it I do not think NOT IMPRESSED with the design of this phone .now got the hassle of having it taken away and looked at .One question please how many times will this type of problem arise MINE has NEVER BEEN NEAR ANY WATER.

Hi... Looks like I corrupted 2 Samsung S4's I was trying to install a custom recovery , not knowing anything about their stock recoveries..., and They froze up on me.... Do you know of another way to Format the boot and reinstall another ROM on it..? I have access to lots of roms and programs now... I just hate throwing the 2 phones out... Can they be fixed...?????

hello friend, my samsung core prime SM-G360H. recently having some problem with charging while the device swecth off its dose not charging i mean no pop up the battery no signal nothing. even its not switch on as long as i remove the charging port.

My galaxy s4 has corrosion in the charging port and won't charge unless i hook it to my laptop and sometimes i have to fight with it then. When i hook it to the wall, it will not charge and when i turn it off connected to the charger, it just vibrates like every 5 seconds. In case anyone has the S4 i9506 model and can't find a charging flex cable for it, I just replaced mine with the i9505 charging flex (rev19) and it works, my phone did have a rev25 in it but it seems fine.

thanks my phone is now charging while I use it the port was loose so replacing it was my only option & your vids was the only one that showed what happens when u turn ur phone back on its deffintly different to a PC & new hardware where u need to install software but on a phone u dont need to install software for new charging port & I have never seen an android phone on the inside its bloody like a computer since it is my first android phone the only prob is I have to reinstall my wallpaper on my phone but I guess that's because I had to take out my SD card ether way it worked

Before doing this make sure the battery isn't bad or overly discharged. If it won't power up it may just be discharged too far. You can find videos on TH-cam about repairing batteries with a cut USB cable. If you do this, always use a charger and not your computer to charge the over discharged phone so you can't fry the USB port by making a mistake.
Just finished replacing the external connector on my Samsung S4. Spudger came with the board. Changed out in about 30 minutes tops. I found it best to watch the video all the way through first then go back and do the job. Everything works perfect.

I watched your video and saw how really easy it was to fix.
You video was concise and well videoed, my wife did this repair ( she is a gadget person) and repaired my phone in 20 minutes. the only thing she has some problems with was the USB shield was a bit hard to remove. All in all this was informative and well done.
So this works as well for a temperature too high problem, but make sure ALL the screws and cover are back. You CANNOT test this, like in the video. But thanks anyway :)

I change the flex cable on my s4 and its still stuck charging at at usb mode. the phone detect wall charger as usb mode when plugged into a wall charger amd the pc cant detect the phone.
Question, I'm about to order the USB Port, does the USB Port have to match the model # SGH-i337 that I have on my phone. Or does the i9500 fit aswell in the I337

Just done this awesome and I'm no tech wiz put it this way I drive a bin lorry for a living. Used the part from my old s4 the rev numbers where different as well swap rev19 for rev25 bit they did look identical.

Just installed my flex cable and fixed my water damaged charge port! Just a tip - when removing the back casing start at the bottom by the charge port. I caused minor damage by the volume buttons not knowing where the clips were.
