I think they did it on purpose. because they are competitors, and I saw that Sonic will have a new cool game based on the classics, they also decided not to sit still and show what they are doing better. they even made Super mario Rpg.
I truly do not understand this idea that you’re not allowed to view Wonder and Superstars as adversaries. These games are both Co-Op 2D platformers, worth *$60*, it doesn’t matter how much we’ve moved past Sonic and Mario challenging eachother, these games are expensive, and competition is still very much alive and well in 2023 for a reason.
for mario is a revial of its 2d platformers other than mario maker but its a return to the game after a long retirement and yeah i dont know if nintendo is trying to keep it hidden or what but its not too far away so not too bad
If you’ll take my opinion for a moment, I think the sudden *panic* is of Sonic fans fear of being looked down upon again. Obviously that’s fear mongering, but the company and the investors who call the shots have a say in how game sales and what decisions are based on them. So from that perspective, I can see why Sonic fans are ‘afraid’ of Sonic getting overshadowed again. But, it’s a buisness at the end of the day and if they want something to go into a certain direction the fans don’t want for the sake of money, they will take that route. Sega has more than enough of fans buying their products to override general concerns. That being said however, I hope both games perform grand so that the right people making the decisions can continue brining more joy to the fans. Competition is needed, but don’t be an ass about it. Looking at *YOU* SegaSammy, the 90’s has long since passed, get over it and treat your people better! XD
I don't get what people mean by "Sega is still trying to rival Nintendo," they really aren't, if they were they wouldn't of put their newer games on the Nintendo Switch.
I’m personally a bit more into Super Mario Bros Wonder because it’s really different from any 2D Mario game I’ve seen. Mario’s physics in this game look floater than his previous games and the idea of having a power-up that literally changes the stage is really inventive. I also love 2D Sonic games but you can tell they’re also relying on some familiar ideas and aspects of the older 2D Sonic games to make this 2D game work but I also love Sonic Superstars and I’m really excited for that game too. Despite my heart belonging to Mario, I’m definitely getting both games so I can be in this fun competitive discussion. I also want to say that I would watch out if I were SEGA because if that leaked 10/17/23 release date is true, I don’t think SEGA wants to release their 2D platformer three days before Spider-Man 2 and Super Mario Bros Wonder.
Well I would not say sonic goes by the same flow style. I’m the game, there are new power ups, and on Sean that has a Pixel level. Sonic also got new techs. Plus also, I think that the game is also going by lego if am correct in the sonic birthday defect thing. I could be wrong, but both games are looking positive to me! Am not saying your wrong but you do have a good point tho.

I'm anticipating mario more I love sonic but the multi-player aspect has me worried sonic games are inherently fast and it feels like it they might slow it down for multi-player while mario is just a pretty game with new stages and powerups. idk it might just be a fear of the unknown

But I think both will be good games. Visually Sonic looks fine but I feel like it’s such a huge downgrade compared to Sonic Mania which is absolutely amazing
I am putting my bets on Sonic. Mario has been stagnant for years when it comes to ideas (lets be honest, for as good as Odyssey was, the best part of that game was the movement mechanics) and Sonic for as much as a roller coaster the series is known for being, is still willing to be ambitious with its location themes. Personally, I have always thought that Mario's locations are too safe. Even in Odyssey, most of these locations are still kingdoms and structured more as fantasy locations whereas Sonic locations often feel more grounded due to the realistic momentum physics of the series. Furthermore, the entirety of the Sonic series is built around the acquisition and application of energy sources whereas Mario is mostly damsel in distress plots.
Is this even a question? Obviously and without a shred of a doubt Mario Wonder will be the better, more polished, more well-thought-out title. Judging by both trailers alone, it is already visible how so much more care and attention has been put into Mario Wonder compared to Sonic Superstars. Btw, I am primarily a Sonic & SEGA fan, and I have literally no pleasure at all in stating what I stated above. But at the same time, I also have no problem at all in acknowledging the truth.

Regardless I’m getting both 🤷🏽♂️ I’ve loved Sonic WAY more than Mario ever since I was like 9 playing Mario and Sonic on the wii. Still, if I think a Mario game is better than a Sonic game, then a Mario game is simply just better than a Sonic game all fanboying aside. I personally think Mario Wonder will offer a great experience to all gamers, while Sonic Superstars is more likely to appeal mainly to classic Sonic fans or Sonic fans in general.
Sonic has 4 (maybe 5) playable characters, new emerald powers which haven't been in the series before. New zones. Lego and cell shades skins. Mario has 2, most of which are reskins. A few new powerups, which is standard. Sonic wins.

I'm going with Sonic superstars for this one. I always prefered Sonic 2D gameplay style over Marios and I always will tke it over Mario anyway as I have a lot more fn playing Sonic than I do with a 2D Mario games. And Sonic is just cooler to me I guess

I'm getting both but honestly (for me) there's just one thing holding me back from saying these will be their best 2D games and that is an online co-op. Superstars is doing a battle mode so..that's something but Mario Wonder kind of has to have online if it's gonna be the best 2D Mario game. I'm still gonna buy these games but (to me) they won't be the best without the online co-op.
I think Superstars will be the better game overall. That level design in Wonder doesn't impress me. The gimmicks only seem to warp the graphics and that's all. Just surface level stuff. Yeah things get trippy like Touch Fuzzy Get Dizzy, but nothing changes gameplaywise. The levels all look super easy and super linear and flat. Yeah there's a lot going on with the animations. Everything is super expressive with a great art style and it's always moving which will keep you entertained like watching a moving painting. But it's just the visual element. This looks no different to me in terms of gameplay than the NSMB games. Meanwhile Superstars looks like it learned a lesson from the complaints about the 2D sections of Forces and tries to be more like Sonic Mania (slightly though). Superstars looks easy too but it does have bigger levels. Then you have all the special stages which Wonder does not. You have characters that play differently which Wonder does not. I could go on. The bosses look cool too.
You realize Mario Bros Wonder isn't even out yet right? You could entirely be proven wrong once the game releases, and you actually play it's full build. You've literally only saw a little bit of gameplay. Due to the game not being released, not knowing all of it's levels, and content, everything you said is invalid lol. You literally do not know anything about the game. So how can you know 100% know that Mario Wonder doesn't have what you listed it didn't when you barley know anything about the game? Lmao. Also Wonder is definitely different than the NSMB series by like, a lot.
What do you mean there’s no gameplay changes? Did you not see the pipes moving? Or Mario riding on the giant sheep? Or Mario transforming into the spiked ball or getting all stretchy? And even without the Wonder Flower there’s gonna be more than just platforming. Did you see the gang racing the Wiggler on roller skates? Or the free falling section? I’m sorry, but I have to disagree. SMB Wonder absolutely looks and plays differently to NSMB.

Bro Sonic became a werehog at one point, and that game was great, yeah it had weird ideas but it was fun to play, I don't think Mario being an elephant will neccesrily ruin anything, but I'm glad someone is addressing the "elephant" in the room.
