I recently switched to Fedora from Arch so this is the first system upgrade I've ever had to do, and it went smoothly. It was a very helpfull video. Thank you!
Very enjoyable video as usual. I have been using the beta version of Fedora 37 since it came out and I have not had a single problem with it. I am using the Gnome,KDE and xfce versions on my computers and have nothing but praise for Fedora.Once again thanks for the informative video Stephen.
Hi Steven, I am a Montrealer (Quebec, Canada), and I have been a Fedora bigot for the past 20 years. Prior to getting into Linux at that time, I was an end-user on UNIX. As an end-user, I did development in ERP (Manufacturing and Distribution). When I started with Fedora at that time, the entire distro would fit onto a 800meg CD drive. I had CDs for Debian, Fedora, and some other distros that were very popular at that time. I remember mentioning to some RedHat employees, that we needed to know when we would have double-density CD images. And those larger CD images and support came before the internet arrived. Do you remember the good old days of Bulletin-boards, and 1200/2400 baud connections? I very much enjoyed your past presentations, and that includes today's Fedora upgrade. Your presentation's pacing and structure are superb. Thank-you. I saw your list of extensions. I have one that I like very much. It is "Bing Wallpaper" extension. I get a beautiful scene daily. If you tell it your locale, it will provide very beautiful pictures to match that locale's climate. It is a favourite. Another extension that I like is "OpenWeather". By default, it comes with "Toronto Canada" as a default, however, it has a built-in seach for most big cities. I am enjoying both Gnome 43, KDE, and Cinnamon, all selectable from the Fedora installation. For your viewers who are interested, let them try "sudo dnf group list", and then "sudo group install "some listed item" " . Then, at login time, one can click on an icon to select between interface choices. (Sometimes I leave my default to KDE, and other times I use GNOME). There are other user interfaces available as well. I also had Ubuntu 22.10 installed. As I said in the opening paragraph, I am a Fedora bigot. Ubuntu's Unity is, in my mind, for someone who does a lot of music or video downloads. My Fedora Use is programming in C and in learning to use Rust. In closing, I am a definite fan of your work, and that means of you too. Thank you so much for your quality productions. Leslie from Montreal. PS . If you have an occasion, please look / present the Fedora "Everything.iso". It is one ISO to satisfy most users. Once you open it to explore it, you will know what I mean.
Hi Leslie, thanks for your kind words and perspectives. When I worked in a Sun Solaris shop back in the 90s, we had Redhat 4.x PCs for testing as Intel had much better integer performance than SPARC, with floating vice-versa. Yes, we had dial-in 14.4 k baud modem pools for our remote workers. Good times! A year ago, I did th-cam.com/video/x78I98mMJ2s/w-d-xo.html and I think it went pretty well so I plan on having another go at it with F37. Cheers!
I've been on Fedora Silverblue fc37 since the first date before all the delays, it's been solid so far. What I can recommend you do is perform an rpm-ostree reset to avoid any potential conflicts during a major upgrade.
Interesting question! It's a personal choice imho - my plan is to wait another week or so, check the Fedora forums to see if all is clear, and then upgrade! :)
Hmm you don't seem to have covered opensuse. Many linux youtubers don't cover it either. Any chances you'll cover it or is it not worth it because it may not get the views for it's lesser popularity?
Hello. Maybe you can tell me what the problem might be. I updated as per your advice, but my problem still with me. In my laptop Lenovo v17-iil (core i5 10gen) the brightness adjustment with the buttons on the keyboard does not work, and the laptop does not go into sleep mode after closing the laptop lid. What could be the problem?
Hi, as I don't have your laptop myself, I can only guess what the cause is. That would be dangerous for me to do. :) *I can only urge you to back up all your important data on the laptop first before troubleshooting any further.* Once your data is safe, you may need to perform a clean install... Good luck!
I installed Fedora 36 on my macbook pro mid 2010 and run well ,but now it's upgrade Fedora 38 with kernel 6.5 . How can I downgrade kernel version 5 series and freeze in Fedora 38 ?
Unfortunately, I have no experience with this, but maybe the following will help you: discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/mini-guide-to-installing-an-older-kernel-version/87355 Good luck!
the problem with these kind of videos is the fact they just take in consideration only stuck instalations ! any upgrade could affects specific configs the user has done over time and are not generaly taken when upgrades arrive.
Fyodora is not an Italian word. Its origin is Greek - Theodora, but in its present usage it is Russian - Princess Fyodora (Фёдора or Федора). Word stress is always on ё, wherever it occurs - [FYO da ra]. The Fёdora hat was used in a Paris play representing Russian Princess Fyodora.
@@stephenstechtalks5377 would be nice to read your opinion ... BIG is realy good and soooo easy. Skip the installation, its like most Linux. Maybe you check the Software and how to install Programs as well as the reliability etc. have fun. Thanks

Hey, man. Had no idea you could do the upgrade this way! Great video, I upgraded my Fedora 36 KDE spin this way and it worked flawlessly.
Excellent, and thanks for watching!
The upgrade went pretty much as in the video , 37 looks polished.
Awesome!

Glad you like it! :)
Awesome video. Im on fed 37 beta, very stable.
Quick question, When full 37 release comes on do i need to update or do a fresh fed 37 install?
A simple update should be sufficient. Chances are you are already on F37, just the official ISO will be released on the 15th. ;) Thanks for watching!
@@stephenstechtalks5377 thank you for the reply, see you on your next video, take care

I have a MicroOS video and a Tumbleweed video. That’s only 2, which is better than 0. ;)
Will the uprade delete all the previously saved files and erase all previously installed software?
Upgrades are not supposed to do that, but back up your important data anyway, just in case!

Virtualbox isn't up to speed yet so if you use it, you might want to wait until they update their repos for Fedora 37
Thanks for sharing!
@@stephenstechtalks5377 No worries. I upgraded anyway and Virtualbox 7 is still working. So if you already have it installed, it works.
