    Great video, Gord! I appreciate you sharing that 90% of your transitions are fades. That makes things a lot simpler. Also, now I know how to place a fade transition. I wondered why some of them were at the beginning of a clip some of them are at the end and sometimes on both ends. Mind blown!

    Man, you've got that right about doing TOO much with transitions. Heck, that and behaviors. I go to town on both options. My favorite transition is the pixelation option. I use that for any time I do a screen share tutorial into an on-camera and vice versa.
    Great video as always, buddy!

      It's so easy to want to play with all the features, but practically speaking, to do a presentable job, and not make the audience crazy, we can do a lot less. But doing less takes away so much of the fun!

    put in short little video bits of "this is what it looks like", and now here is how it looks after the change. You can visualize it, we cannot.

      Hi Harvey. This is a good suggestion. Given the short attention span of many, I often struggle with how much to put in and, in this case, I agree with you, more clips might have been useful. This first half of this video is one of the most difficult ones I've had to make. I will keep this in mind for the future. I appreciate your feedback!

    I couldn't find any vertical flips in Camtasia. Any suggestions?

    • @GordIsman
      @GordIsman  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, I'm not sure what you mean for a "vertical flip" transition... perhaps you can share an example link? I've done a custom transition in the following video to show the potential of doing customized transitions, maybe this will give you some ideas on a vertical solution: th-cam.com/video/ASmPOqVw5SM/w-d-xo.html .

    Thanks for a great video. I went to edit to preferences to timing to change it from 1 second to 2 or 3 seconds but nothing happens. I have a slide presentation of our sister's cruise (fun) with 150 photos. 1 second transition and 1 second per image is not long enough. My question is how to change the length of ALL transitions and photos at once. Is this possible? Thank you in advance.

    • @GordIsman
      @GordIsman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Eliana... I get the frustration! Since dragging on the transition again, after changing the length of time in the Preferences doesn't work. If it were me, I would start over(i.e. delete the photos from the timeline) - add all the photos back in one go from the media bin - then the timeline is filled. Before you do this, be sure that the preferences had the proper default time length for the images to be on screen. Then, select all the media and add the transition to the complete set at once by dragging the transition over the selected images group. I hope that's easy enough to understand. The easiest way to do this is to first just test a small set of images and get a sense of the length of time you want the images to be on, and the length of time for the transition. Once you've tuned it for this small set, add the rest of the images to the timeline, and then select the whole group of images and apply the transition to them - this assumes you've tuned the Peference values for the Images and Transitions. (Of course this approach assumes that you want the images to be on for a default preference time length, and the transitions to also follow a default length as well.) I hope that helps.

    I've got Camtasia 2018 and I want to do a fade in/out transition (NOT the one with black in it) and its not working right... despite that I select the "fade" transition, it still fades to black and then fades into my next picture on the video. I see on your video at the very beginning you are using the same transition and its not doing that. Is this some sort of bug in the new camtasia?

    • @GordIsman
      @GordIsman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Katherine. I've made a few videos with Camtasia 2018 and have had no problem. I would suggest a few things to try. 1) shorten the time length for the transition as this will make it run faster, and/or try 2) in Preferences there's something called "Use trimmed content in transition" - try unchecking that to see what happens, and 3) Just in case your clips have black at the end/beginning, try cutting the joining clips tighter - shorten the connecting parts. Hopefully one of these suggestions will help you.

    Great tips, thanks very much. I use Camtasia for PC and MAC and they don't carry through with all features. I'm wondering if you can answer a question for me. In Camtasia fro MAC, there's an option in Preferences when setting the transition length, to Select after a Split (none, left right or all). Do you know what this does? Many thanks

    • @GordIsman
      @GordIsman  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Victoria, sorry for taking so long to reply. I don't have a Mac, so, I'll share what I would think the preference settings means. Depending on which preference you choose, after a split, media for either the left-side/right-side, or both sides of the split will be selected. I think it just helps you get a headstart on your next "move' by preselecting media. Note, I've reached out to TechSmith to confirm. I'll update you if it has another meaning or context. I'm curious, who is it that you are using both platforms? Do you move projects around much?

      @@GordIsman Hi thanks for the feedback. I am a teacher and I have MAC but we have PC at work, so I swap between platforms depending on where I am working. For now I have selected 'NONE' until I know what it means. Appreciate the reply.

    Why is it sometimes the transition snap into place and others you can drag and drop over and over and it will not accept it? Thanks.

    • @GordIsman
      @GordIsman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Robin, if you try playing with zooming out on the timeline - making it longer, and then applying the transitions, you'll see that the application of transitions may work better. Where you drop them on the media clips will have an impact. Try at the ends - left or right side of a clip, and try dragging into the middle and notice how it differs. Playing with a few examples and stretching out the timeline will help. Let me know if it works out for you.

    How do I get the first image to stay solid and not fade, when I add fade to a 2nd track? I haven't figured this out yet. Do you have a remedy? Thank you in advance.

    • @GordIsman
      @GordIsman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question! This can be tricky. A few suggestions. When you add a fade, be careful that it doesn't add to the adjacent clip if you don't want it to apply to it to both clips. To make that easy, I just separate the clips for a moment, and apply the transition to the clip I want, and then put it back together. Another thing to look at is the "Use Trimmed Content" parameter for the Transition. It's like a property for the Transition definition. By default, the "transition uses frames of video clip that was trimmed, split or cut". If you uncheck that, that should help you're result as well. Let me know how this works out for you?

      @@GordIsmanThanks. I was trying to make a 5 year review on my snowblower skids I bought (I just put it on TH-cam,) and it kept blacking out, and showing the image again. So I took the image out. Also, I did as you suggested and only used 1 transition throughout, because I did have 5 or more...LOL. Thanks Gord.

    how to do random transitions in camtasia??

    • @GordIsman
      @GordIsman  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting question. I don't know how to do that because you can only assign "one" transition. Note that aside from using Camtasia's own built-in transitions, you can get assets from the TechSmith library asset collection, or other 3rd party creations.
