      Thank you all for this feedback! I've forwarded it to our dev team, but they'd LOVE more clarity on what you're (all) looking for. Please head to feedback.techsmith.com to leave specific ideas for the team so they can implement these ideas if possible!

    is there an option to change where we want to cut after doing a split or trim edit after making that change other than doing an undo? I'm working with long videos and want to trim certain parts but also finding maybe 2 cuts later that i need to use what i cut out. in other words, can the full video content be there just like a photo is when cropping?

    Andy, did you or an editor create that wipe effect with shapes in your intro with an actual transition or maybe just shapes with some animation? (I think I've seen the latter in a non-TechSmith vid demo here).

    • @techsmith
      @techsmith  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Chris! The intro is simply made up of three shapes from the annotations tab. We enlarge them so they just look like diagonal fills, place them where we want them to END first, add our animation, and then at the beginning of the animation arrow, we reposition them all off-screen until we're happy with the animation. You are correct, we save it as a template, so while I created the initial title wipe, our team uses it in a template now any time they edit a new video. And they can iterate on it and update it as we feel necessary.
      But you guessed it, it's just simple shapes that fill the screen to create a transition effect!

    Andy, did you use a transition between each of the talking head edits in this video or were they all jumpcuts with a slight zoom in/out? Is there a transition that does the 10% zoom in or out each time?
    Looks great. Not to distracting and an easy way to piece it together to cover fumbles, filler words, or create a little more dynamic talk to camera.
    Great job

      Great catch, John! I did indeed use the jumpcut zoom in/out method that you caught. We typically will have me read through the script a few times and sometimes take 1 has a better line than take 3 or vice versa, so that jump cut in/out does a nice job of covering the edit. There isn't a preset or transition that does this, and we only feel free to do it because we're filming at 4k resolution, but outputting 1080p, so we're not upscaling over 100% when we zoom in on a shot.

    There is an issue with using fades. Sometimes it works perfectly other time it inserts a black fade and sometime it freezes into the next clip. We use lots of clips in each video and the standard fade thru sometimes works perfectly other time it fades part to black or does the sudden jump or freeze. We only use the standard fade thru. Never black fade thru.

    • @techsmith
      @techsmith  ปีที่แล้ว

      Two ideas come to mind that might be worth looking into.
      The first one is a question: is it playing back in Camtasia when you're noticing this, or after exporting the video? If it's when you're still IN Camtasia, you're most likely experiencing delayed playback processing time. Try either creating Proxy video (Tip #5 in this video: th-cam.com/video/O9T6sf162Ss/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ReeEoBY28ehZieyX&t=134) or just exporting the video to see if it's playing back properly when finished.
      The second thing, and this is less likely, is if you click the transition so its highlighted and go to the Properties panel on the right, make sure to select "Use Trimmed Content" so that the transition will actually overlap into the footage, not just the second of content it's covering. This will make a smoother effect. Slightly confusing to write out, but worth double-checking.

      @@techsmith I’m not sure I understand. We’re doing a single track with clipped video from an iPhone 13 pro. No complex multi layered events. Just using cross fades only to connect the clips after we do cuts from the front and back of each clip. This issue happens randomly, most of the time fades work fine, but then we’ll encounter these weird things where it starts to fade to black or freezes the video for a split second. It happens during editing and ends up on the final processed video. Can you make a video on how to fix?

    Why doesn't anybody talk about the "Use trimmed content" checkbox? What does it do? Why/when should it be used? Am I missing something? Is it so obvious that it doesn't need explanation? I have watched a half a dozen videos that TH-cam recommended to me when I searched for, "Camtasia transitions trimmed content". None even mentioned the Transition properties panel, much less what the controls do. So far I have been relying on trial-and-error.

    • @techsmith
      @techsmith  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question Tom! Let's say you've shortened a video clip and you DO NOT want what you cut out of that video to ever show up on screen. But the transition says "Use Trimmed Content?" No. You don't want that.
      BUT, in most use cases, I would venture the guess that it's ok for the transition to include the trimmed content as part of the transition. This will also affect your timing slightly. If you don't allow it to use the trimmed content, it has to move into your clip a little bit more. Transitions will cover a second (give or take) of your clip, so the question is, use the trimmed out content, or use ONLY the content we've trimmed it down to?
