You know when to wholecrop Barley/wheat/oats as the grain moisture has to be around 30% which coincides with it still being quite green, approximately 1 month before normal harvest (end of May) which is done at 15% moisture when the green area has completely gone. Great video.
Hardly 10 minutes in and Farmer Neil learns first useful tip from Cartech - choose one of your closer fields to use for wholecrop mowing as you will be making many trips back & forth to the silage pit!
I use the CSV pack telehandler bucket which has the facility to switch off levelling at your workshop - rather handy! Only thing it doesn’t do well is fill with manure from the barrow at the back of the Saxthorpe cowsheds - seems to overfill & weld itself to the ground, and resetting then loses all the manure it contained. PS: will join your Dischord so I can put some of my diatribes there instead of here on TH-cam, unless other subscribers find my questions/musings of help/interest, or unless “engagement” here is good for your channels TH-cam algorithms??
Yes a nice new bucket would be helpful I think, I do like the CSV pack. Yes feel free to join but also comment as it helps everyone out 👍🏻 thank you Neil, I do appreciate the time you put in to the comments.
@@cartech22 , of course it has NOTHING to do with the fact that I am doing this whilst lying-in in a nice warm bed with a coffee, when the alternative is to get up and start on a load of housework/DIY jobs...... 😂
I wouldn’t have minded if you had just admitted you were wrong about when you could Green-mow your barley, though I can see why the ability to get two crops off a field in one season is attractive. Just to be clear on the matter for someone used to the more simple growth stage model in FS17 seasons and totally new to the concept of wholecrop silage, am I correct in (1) saying barley will have 6 growth stages and then will change to “ready to harvest” the following month, and (2) if I want to mow it for wholecrop silage I do it at growth stage 6? I am asking as I missed the boat last season and ended up buying in the wholecrop I needed for silage through Disturbed Simulations wonderful multi-fermenter.
It is incredibly attractive and I'm liking the possibility of doing it. 1) yes correct 6 growing and then it changes to ready to harvest. 2) yes you would do it at growth stage 6.
I am using the Pottinger butterfly mowers with swathing capability on my Saxthorpe save (see, I don’t copy everything- though nearly bought a NH T7 in used vehicles recently before choosing a JD 8R instead!) so will be interested to see if I can use swathing mode with wholecrop mowing (worth noting I see an option for CTRL Y in the extended F1 menu for the rear Pottinger mower - at least I do when mowing grass, I will let you know when I get to doing green mowing though currently in mid Dec on my game so will be a while...)
Having tested and then it was confirmed on my discord they do swath but not windrow. So there are 3 rows not wide spread but that's not much use to me so they will be going.
I’m interested to know how you set up FS22 when playing more than one map at a time. Do you have both Court Farms and Saxthorpe map mods in you mods folder and just deselect the one you aren’t playing in the appropriate game save slot, or do you have duplicate mod folders (one for each map) and copy them in and out (I believe this latter method is what Disturbed said he does, although he didn’t say if it was to avoid known issues or just because it suits his methodical organised brain).
I have a folder for each savegame plus others for testing and modding etc. So and example would be mods Saxthorpe (when not in use) and then when I want that one I just rename it to mods before starting the game and so on and so forth.
I don’t think it is cheaty to feed sheep on fresh grass and hay during the summer seasons, if you do I suspect you will have enough wholecrop silage to last years! (That said you do have capacity large sheep enclosures...).
Yeah I guess if it is there for them to be able to eat it is ok, autumn winter spring should be done "properly" though I guess. And yes, don't think we will run out of wholecrop silage anytime soon 😂.
@@cartech22 , whereas keeping grass bales or piles of grass for months to feed through the winter just because the game lets you do it is a cheat too far IMHO.
OMG, I am really spamming your comments section here 😳, but are those Claas mowers a mod or in-game/DLC item? I rather like idea of Claas branded kit on Saxthorpe seeing as the local dealership is Claas.

Ah cool, that is good to know! Thank you!

Me cheat??? 😂😂 I like to think of it as exploring the possibilities of the game 🤣🤣 thank you Pete 👍🏻👍🏻😁😁
Really enjoyable & informative episode, thanks 🙂👍
Not a problem at all Neil! 😁👍🏻
Another great video and to be honest, I enjoy your longer videos. I think you provide more information. Thanks again!!
Thank you, I am glad you enjoy them!

Agreed, did it once with fresh grass in a silo on attingham 😂 not again

I think they are just a mod, should be on modhub 👍🏻
