    The interesting thing with Queen is they could switch out their themes and the range of types of songs from sombre to operatic to happy rock . The Lead Singer Freddie Mercury was a showman on the stage with outfits and presence tragically taken dying well before he was done as a result of the HIV/ AIDS virus at 45 (my age). He also wrote and composed music it is worth looking at some of the documentaries of his life and his interviews.

    Nice reaction! Did you know? This song is scientifically proven to be the most uplifting song , according to researchers measuring the ''feel-good'' levels of this song
    Here are some song suggestions by queen: -
    1) Somebody To Love
    2) We Will Rock You - We are the champions, do react to both the songs together since they are meant to be played like this
    3) Another One Bites The Dust
    4) Fat Bottomed Girls
    5) Crazy Little Thing Called Love
    6) It's Late
    7) Who wants to live forever
    Whichever songs that don't have an ''official Video''. Instead have an ''Official Lyrics Video'' , react to those
    And as many have said , react to Queen At Live aid , voted as the best rock concert of all time

    The range of lyrics in Queen songs-or even just the ones written by Freddie Mercury (the lead singer)-is so vast, it goes from everyday stuff to fantasy/fever dream to inspirational, deep thoughts/feelings to swooning love ballads.They cover everything! With Queen, I think you just go with how it makes you feel and don’t bother trying to piece apart the lyrics; Freddie, when asked what some lyrics meant, declined to answer and said he wanted their music to mean whatever it meant to each listener. About not hearing the British accent-when I was about 5 yrs old, I went with my older sister to see a Beatles movie in the early ‘60’s, and I was shocked to hear their British accents when they talked (which I had never heard before; had only heard them sing) and I remember asking my parents afterwards why we couldn’t hear their accents when they sang, so I think that kind of thing has been around a looooong time, since humans started singing. Btw, I think you mentioned Don’t Stop Believing as a suggested Queen song to react to. Great song but it’s by Journey. Maybe you said or meant Don’t Stop Me Now. Either way, thanks for this great reaction and keep ‘em coming please. There is sooo much more Queen to react to!

      @Steve-hu9gw 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well, it is a bit about Freddie. How does a gay man of his era possibly not resonate powerfully with those lyrics? There’s always been a strong link between gender issues and sexuality issues.

    • @antonymugford6863
      @antonymugford6863 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      It's neither about women's liberation or gay issues either. It was written by John Deacon the bass player who is happily married with about 19 children (lol) and us basically a song about yearning to get out of a humdrum existence (as seen in the dressing up as soap opera women) and into a more exciting life , away from the boring and toxic relationship he's in, as shown in the rather exotic dance sequence. This 'dream' ends with the words 'but life still goes on, I can't get used to living without you by my side.'
      In other words, though he's fallen in love with someone else and a dream of excitement, he's returning to the stability of the original relationship even though he still longs to break free.
      But hey, sometimes we can't just have excitement.

    • @Steve-hu9gw
      @Steve-hu9gw 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@antonymugford6863, whatever the genesis of the lyrics, by the time Freddie had gotten his arms around and ravished them in the famous video, matters had become substantially transformed, broadened, and redirected. That, at the very least, seems quite safe to say. The genesis of the lyrics of a song or video is but one component among many going into what constitutes that song or video. Film works much the same way. Where does the “true meaning” lie? In what the writer/lyricist, director, singer, actors, composer, set designer, costume designer, or stage hands do? I would suggest looking at the totality of the final work in question.

    0:27 Don't Stop Believing is Journey not Queen :)
    6:01 Lead singer is Freddie Mercury (born as Farrokh Bulsara), Freddie astoundingly never had any vocal training but had a range of 3 octaves and was able to give operatic perfromances, lead guitar is Brian May (who is actually has a PhD in Astrophysics), bass guitar is John Deacon (with his love of sweaters) and drummer is Roger Taylor (who did most of the higher backing vocals, especially in Bohemian Rhapsody). Brian and Roger were closely involved in the Queen biopic that came out a cpl of years ago.
    Don't Stop Me Now is in the bar scene with the pool cues in Shaun of the Dead, if you've seen that
    Just a note about reacting to music on TH-cam by the way, you have been watching the whole thing but you might have to stop during them to make comment or the video will probably be flagged or blocked. Sometimes that annoys viewers but it's necessary to stop that.

    Great reaction, check out Somebody To Love - Queen live in Montreal 1981. Queen were great live, they have been voted as the best live band. Lead singer Freddie Mercury has often been voted s the best vocalist and front man of all time. Queen did any style of music, they were very diverse.

    Another Queen song that you should really watch and react to is 'Somebody To Love' - there are two versions of that song, i.e. one by all of the original members of Queen including of course Freddie Mercury and a cover version with George Michael singing the lead at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert after his death.
    I have to admit that I prefer the cover version rather than the original because they also have a small choir singing back-up as well as John Deacon, Roger Taylor and Brian May ( the other Queen members ) and the audience just goes mental and join in as well.
    Incidentally, Joel, I didn't leave a comment on your Bohemian Rhapsody reaction on purpose because I didn't want to criticise you for you never hearing of Queen - you seem like such a nice young man although I'm still left wondering how you have such an old-fashioned taste in music especially when you seem to go nuts over music such as The Last Night of the Proms etc. Queen were around even before The Beatles broke up in the early 1970's which obviously makes a lot of us wonder where you've been hiding when it comes to their music especially when it's been around for the past half century or so, doesn't it?
    Regarding the song Bohemian Rhapsody I've always thought that it was about Freddie coming out as gay not just to the world but to his own mother. Especially when you listen to the lyrics of it and he's subtly telling her that he's destroying her concept of him as a 'straight' man and then being reborn as a gay man. The reason for his concern about coming out to her was because his birth name was Farroukh Bulsara and he came from a very strict religious background and he didn't want to upset his mother by flaunting his sexuality to her so he expressed it in the best way that he knew how, i.e. through his music.
    The funniest part about this is that I have a brother-in-law ( my sister's husband ) who was besotted by Queen and he was absolutely devastated when Freddie died - more so than myself even though I've always been openly gay throughout my entire life - and when that happened over 30 years ago I just came to the conclusion that we all live in a very topsy-turvy world especially when a 'straight' man like my brother-in-law got a lot more upset by Freddie's passing than I did. Go figure.

    A firm fan of both Jps and Queen here. You said you also wanted to try other singers/groups as well, as per recommendation. I look forward, see what people choose for you to watch. One thing I'd like for you to be aware of as you go through these videos: over time you'll notice something about Queen that's different from the others. It took me some time to figure it out myself, but what it seems to come down to is this. - Other bands put on a show and invite you to come watch what they can do. ( and you do, and have a good time) But when Queen put on a show they do it differently. Its as if they decided to have a party - and invited 100,000 of their best friends to attend. ( and you do, and feel you've been to the best party ever) Queen, through the charisma of their front man, Freddie Mercury, make the crowd feel like they're part of the act. ( and you feel you are, as much of their music is deliberately written to include parts that the audience can join in with - and the fans do, with enthusiasm - I've even seen commentators like yourself impulsively joining in sometimes )

Please will you do 'Breakthru' as the official video has them on the back of a steam train and it is pure gold. Like I said yesterday Freddie Mercury - legend. Beautiful man, flamboyant, amazing voice. Much missed. He was born Farrokh Bulsara to Parsi Indian parents in Tanzania (I believe) and his family moved to England in 1964. He and Brian May wrote most of the songs. Brian has a PhD in Astrophysics. It has been said that his best friend in the group was the quietest member - John Deacon. Best wishes, Joel.

    This has probably been said, but Queen also wrote all their own music/lyrics Freddie Mercury had a legit large vocal range; as did Elvis. Freddie admired Elvis btw and wrote 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love' after Elvis died in '77 as a tribute. Am long time fan of Elvis/Freddie as appreciate artists who can really sing and don't mime to backing tracks! Love from London. ☺

    A little education. The singer's name is Freddie Mercury and he has gone down as the greatest vocalist rock singer of all time. He was born Farrokh Bulasara and was born in Zanzibar under the British Directorate. He died of complications through AIDS in 1991 and there will never be anyone quite like him EVER. He had a 4 octave vocal range. Now you've discovered Queen you won't be able to stop. All band members are/were highly educated with Brian May (the guitarist) having a PHD in Astrophysics.
    I first saw Queen at Live Aid in 1985 when I was 16 years old and have been a fan ever since, I'm now 52! I have been lucky enough to have seen them live 3 times, once at Live Aid and twice the following year July 1986 Wembley and August 1986 Knebworth. Check out some suggestions below, keep going with Queen as I absolutely LOVE the younger generation discovering Queen. They are by FAR the best bad ever, and the only band to sound even better LIVE than in the studio !!!! Freddie's showmanship can NEVER be replicated. RIP Freddie my ultimate hero, you were and STILL are a LEGEND my dear xxxxx
    Live Aid 1985 - the whole 20 minute performance - this has gone down as the best performance by a rock band of ALL time - the world stopped spinning at 6.40pm that day !
    Another One Bites the Dust - LIVE at Wembley 1986
    Save Me - LIVE at Montreal 1981
    Somebody to Love - LIVE at Montreal 1981
    Love of my Life - both LIVE Montreal 1981 + Wembley 1986
    Now I'm Here - LIVE Wembley 1986
    Who Wants to Live Forever - LIVE Wembley 1986
    Bohemian Rhapsody - LIVE both Montreal 1981 + Wembley 1986
    Dragon Attack - LIVE Montreal 1981
    Under Pressure - LIVE Wembley 1986 [ultimate crowd control]
    One Vision - LIVE Wembley 1986
    One Vision Documentary - making of the song watching the band members work their magic
    Please please please keep up with Queen and react to some, if not all, of the above, you'll be amazed at how many tune in !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Stay safe from Manchester UK xxx
