Thanks for this -- it was written by Brian while Freddie's health was failing... Brian said: When the band recorded the song in 1990, Mercury's condition had deteriorated to the point that May had concerns as to whether he was physically capable of singing it. May recalls; "I said, 'Fred, I don't know if this is going to be possible to sing.' And he went, 'I'll fucking do it, darling'-vodka down-and went in and killed it, completely lacerated that vocal".
Freddie and Brian wrote this in the final chapter of Freddie’s life, he left us with a banging sound, imagine actually dying and being able to sing like that with just a few months to live. A masterpiece
I got a bit surprised witch yout react. I know some images are funny, but The song is one of most dramatic masterpieces in rock history. It says _I'm going to die, but life will continue. The Show Must Go On_
Freddie was to sick to make a video, so they put parts of his old video"s together, to think he was dying when he sang this is incredible, his body gave up but his voice never did, he was a amazing man, a true legend
This was his swan song IMHO, released in the year Freddie left us. Yet instead of convalescing, he left us with a melancholy yet uplifting song, it seems to say "Yes for me it's over but keep going - the show must go on!" Always put his fans above his own needs as a true performer and a caring human being. RIP Freddie!

This song is my favourite song of all time. Listen to his voice! He was so sick he could barely stand up when he recorded this song. Chills every time.
When the 'Innuendo' album came out, there was all this speculation that Freddie was dying. When I bought it, I played it as soon as I got home and he sounded incredible throughout the whole album. I thought, 'No way is this man dying!' What a trooper he was.
The poignancy of the song is that at the time of its recording in 1990, Freddie Mercury already knew that he had HIV and that he was dying of AIDS. It was ultimately released as a single on 14 October 1991, a mere six weeks before Freddie's death. So this was his comment to the world that he would continue to create, perform and entertain right until the very end.
So happy you like Freddie & ofcourse Queen!!! SUPERB!! I'm in my 60's now, but lucky enough to see them on stage, not literally, just on tv!! Still loved them all SO MUCH!!! Freddie also sang with the opera singer Montserrat Caballé. You have to see it, just magnificent. The whole band were just UNIQUE!! xx
Just this week, I watched my 15 your old niece play the lead in We Will Rock You, the Queen musical. The story used to tie together these great songs, is of a future (not far off) where real music is banned and only computer generated pap is allowed. Fortunately the spirit of Freddie shines through, and shows the kids the way.
Freddie had detreated so much when they came to record this, Brian May had concern's he wouldn't be able to sing it, but he nailed it like the trooper he was. Poetically, it was released as a single just 6 weeks prior to his death.
he was close to the end when recording this song, and brian may asked if he could hit the notes, and freddie being freddie downed some vodka, sat on a mixing desk and belted it out in one take
My sister was at Live Aid in 1985 & experienced Queen's set live. She told me it was by far her favourite part of the whole day. Hard to believe Freddie has been gone nearly thirty two years now. Indeed the show, & all the glorious music, does go on.❤
It was magical even as a kid watching it in my bedroom on a black and white telly. I lived in London then, I reckon if I'd opened the windows I could have heard it 😁

When Freddie did this song, considering what he was going through, it was a statement and nobody could have made it better than him. On a different note, the song Penny Lane will always be associated with The Beatles, but Penny Lane also had another another soon to become famous name. Yes, Freddie Mercury. Freddie was in a Liverpool Band called The Ibex and the Manager/ roadie`s Mum and Dad had a Bar on Penny Lane called Dovedale Towers, it is still there and about a mile from where I live. The shots of the Magic Tour helicopter flying over the field packed with fans was Knebworth, I was there it was amazing. Lovely Freddie you will be missed and loved always.
Great song- great reaction! Freddie was already very ill when this was recorded. He never performed it live. The first time Queen played it live was at the Tribute concert the year after he died, with Elton John singing the lyrics.
😢 this is such a special song to me, I played it at my husband's funeral just over 2 years ago, so the words really resonate with me, I listen to Queen every day, they help my show to go on, thanks for your reaction

My first ever concert was Queen live at Wembley Stadium, the year after Live Aid. They were the first band to fill Wembley stadium solo, and they filled it twice (2 nights) unheard of before or after. I was only 15 at the time, but knew I was watching something incredible that was live on for years to come. Love this reaction video!

It still breaks my heart to think we lost Freddie at such an early age, he had so much more to give. Definitely one of the world's greatest showmen. Good timing with this reaction Joel, Brian May has just been knighted by King Charles for services to music. No doubt Freddie would be honoured if he had lived, possibly knighted, or maybe made a Dame?! 😉
Some of Freddie's finest work was on the Innuendo album. The clip in the video with the helicopter over the crowd was the last gig Queen did in the UK at Knebworth Park in 1986. I was lucky enough to be there. A memory I will cherish to the end of my days
I'd go so far as to say that's it is the best song ever. It's crisp, it's emotional, it's powerful, it's catchy, it's sheer perfection. Kudos to Brian May. Along with White Queen, Prophet's song and Who wants to live forever this is the pinnacle of his songwriting.

Keep going there are so many masterpieces by Queen and by Freddie Mercury’s two albums.
Epic is the best word to describe this, one of my faves, Freddie vocals are still amazing. Also, the clips used to create the vid are so well chosen to fit these lyrics perfectly. Thanks for this reaction Joel and bravo Queen for another truly brilliant track.
Queen doesn't usually block, and their live shows never seem to be blocked. I love this song which really has no live version since Freddie was nearing the end at this time, having difficulty even standing up. He would come into the studio begging the others for songs to sing telling them they can do whatever they please with them later. Brian wrote this song about Freddie. Brian said that he envisioned the character in the song to be a sad clown who painted a big smile on his face for his audience. Brian was not keen on giving this song to Freddie because it has some very high parts in it and he was concerned that Fred wouldn't be comfortable trying to sing them. He told Freddie so and Freddie's response was "I'll do it Darling!" He slammed back a couple of vodkas and nailed the song. He was so brave and non-complaining right until the end. Thank you for your reaction.
Hi Joel, thank you for this video as it’s one of my favourites it always makes me cry. It’s like goodbye but the music will carry on. I love Queen so much and I’ve been a huge fan for 50 years and that’s hard to believe. The world lost something special when we lost Freddie and yes this song is in my top three. A great video Joel
Definitely in my top three of Queen songs, though "I Want to Break Free" is certainly number 1 for me. "The Show Must Go ON" though in many ways is a special song. Although it had not been made public, it was known by the band that Freddie was dying. Brian May wrote the song, especially for Freddi and it was one of the last songs, some claim the last song that was recorded for the 'Innuendo' album. Freddie mercury may no longer be here in body but he lives on immortally through his music. What a great song to listen to in a concert environment; The Show Must Go On, which feels like taking ecstasy without taking ecstasy. All of Freddie’s songs are legacies left behind for humanity to find the will to overcome the impossible. Oh by the way Joel. I’ve never understood why the world celebrates St Patrick’s day, but ignores St George’s Day, St David’s day and St Andrew’s Day. I’m English and British, but for me, all of the patron saints of the British isles are equally as important, but marketeers and big corporations like Pepsi etc have jumped on the bandwagon and made St Paddy’s day bigger then it is.
Great reaction, it's funny how sometimes a song can make you happy and another time leave you on the verge of tears. His voice, his talent is so missed. It still feels so tragic that we lost him. As sick as he was he was determined to leave us with as much music as he could manage before he left us. 👑
It's a great song and I believe one of the last songs that was recorded with Freddie. For me it's a top 10. The fact that they did so many amazing songs and many more are in my opinion better. My personal top 2 are Who Wants to Live Forever and Too Much Love Will Kill You.
HI JOEL DEBRA HERE FROM SOUTH WALES UK The Freddie song I just cannot listen to without breaking my heart is "I'm Going Slightly Mad" as this was recorded days before he sadly left us, when he was recording it Sir Brian May said they had to do it in small takes as Freddie would get so tired and low on energy, you can see in that video how close he was to leaving us. I am such a huge Queen and Freddie Mercury fan as I have been since I was around 8 years old and I am now in my late 50s so I have been a Queen fan for coming up to 50 years, YIKES!!!! How can it be that long.
Queen has loads of most favourite songs. Whichever one I'm listening to is my favourite then when the next one comes on then that's my favourite. I like all the clips of previous videos they use to make this. I really enjoyed this.
We Will Rock You by Ben Elton which is basically just an excuse to belt out all those Queen songs, is back in London and I’ve got my tickets! Brilliant show.
Joel I absolutely love watching you listening and watching Queen. You can see the power of his music emanating through you. Their music will go for ever...and ever! ❤️
Apparently Freddie drank vodka to help him reach those high notes - he was so ill and recording this destroyed his voice. It's an amazing song! Definitely in my top five.
Their music will go on forever….there are three commercials running now, GMC, We Will Rock You, Amazon, Cool cat, and California tourism has Don’t Stop Me Now. Queen will forever be legends.
I'd recommend watching George Michael and Queen version of 'somebody to love' at the Freddie tribute. Absolutely AMAZING and is probably the best cover of a Freddie song 🎵 ❤️
What I love about this is May told him “Freddie you’re too ill, weak to sing this standing up, please sit down and record it”. His typical reply “I sing better when I stand up darling” necked a vodka and nailed it!
Thank you so much for showing this video! What an inspirational song from Freddie. I think the message in this song applies to all of us at one time or another. This actually brought tears to my eyes. Freddie will never be forgotten. Like you, my favorite Queen song is somebody to love but this song says it all.
Yes as others have said Freddie really struggled to do this video and vocal as AIDS had progressed rapidly by now but as his band mates said he wanted to do it and wanted to pack as much music in before he died which he knew was close. Fortunately today HIV can be managed but not then
Queen rarely if ever block anything, they've just uploaded the re-release of The Miracle Album even though it's on sale on their website. The lyrics for this song written mainly by the newly knighted Dr Sir Brian May, this was recorded in the last stage of Freddie life so it has a different meaning from Sir Brian and Freddie, as for being in your top 3 you've got around 290+ more tracks from the group in Freddie lifetime and Sir Brian, Roger Taylor and Freddie solo careers, as well as countless live concerts, no two were the same, and previously unreleased tracks and demo's, plus interviews with the four, documentaries over 50 years of work which continues today with Sir Brian and Roger along with Spike who worked with the group in the early 80's
Hi Joel. May I suggest that you go straight to Innuendo? As you were right to observe, this video is compiled from clips. Some of these were animations from the official Innuendo video. Some say it's the Bohemian Rhapsody of the latter stage of Freddie Mercury's life. It's really worth seeing after The Show Must Go On.
One of my favourites and yet it makes me sad, when you see how much weight he lost, he just kept fighting and fighting- he fought with his incredible voice, when I saw live aid live at home, it was jaw dropping incredible, I think the majority of people wanted Queen to do the whole concert. He was a masterpiece, if I could I too would have gone to every Queen concert, but I’m disabled and I have a fear of crowds. However if in another life I’d be there for sure.. Joel thank you for doing this video really lifted my spirit to see your reaction priceless 😊
when the remaining members of Queen helped write with ben elton (wrote blackadder/young ones)a west end musical called We will rock you(queen story). There was a 25 foot gold statue of freddy doing is famous pose on entrance of theatre that whent missing,Queen Drummer roger taylor stole it and its next to his swimming pool at his home(can see on google earth)
I'm so happy you are watching/discovering what has become my second favourite Queen song (after 'Love of my Life') Please, please, PLEASE react to 'Barcelona' - assuming you haven't already and it passed me by 🤔 (...did I say please....?)
I've waited so long for you to do this amasterpiece freddie's voice is outstanding (he was dying) still his voice is from another world ithink it easily for me could be number one but I have to give credit to bohemian rhapsody only because of this it will go to number 2 I'm so inlove with this one amazing and heartbreaking ❤️
Epic video! What an amazing band, great songwriting, what a loss! 😂😪 Thanks! 👍 (Brian May did a live song with John Farnham and some Aboriginal guys, he's still got it! 🤗)
This has always been a favourite from the first time I heard it on the car radio, with an immediate stop in the nearest layby to hear it out. I was caught from the first opening bars of the intro, there's an epic, hopeful defiance in the song, like you said JP, no matter what life throws at you the show goes on, you pick yourself up for the next performance and for Freddy the last curtain call. Rumours/press speculation about his health had been circulating for a while when this track came out and immediately, like others have posted I thought this was his goodbye song. With a typically knowing, Freddy Mercury, flamboyant nod to the fact that in the music that he left behind both he and the show would go on. On an opera nerd level there's threads of the Opera Pagliacci, the clown who still has to go on to make other laugh despite his own heartbreaks. The Line towards the end " on with the show" is a reference. It's one of a couple of tracks I keep handy, ELO's "Shangri La" is another for those days when life is being more stupid and annoying than it needs to be. Thanks again Joel.
Please watch the music video to `Breakthru', you`ll love this, it`s filmed on an old steam engine, the group are on an open carriage behind the engine. It was seen a bit on this video comp..
So much sadness surrounding this song but it’s great to see so many of their videos mashed into one. Great reaction, I believe the official Queen channel that copyright isn’t too difficult, they have an amazing catalogue and you have so much to explore through Queens beginnings in the seventies, great reaction 😊
You realise the full live aid concert was, I don’t know exactly but for me in our back garden listening to it, at least14 - 16 hours long and there were two concerts one in the UK and one in the US it grossed pledges in the millions for Ethiopia famine relief. Most all the big stars and bands of that time participated for free all out doing each other with the quality of the efforts it was a magnificent and fantastic day. Of course if you saw / heard one of the concerts (UK started first ) the saw / heard the other one it was around 24hrs of live bands. Cheers Joel.
So true so sad to listen to it insane vocals out of this world ihave chills every time I hear this there have been only one freddie never will be another soon sad😢
This is such a hard song for those of us who were fans, and knew Freddie was in poor health at this time. I cry EVERY time. (Same with "Who wants to live forever"). That's a full box of tissues. 😭😭😭. He insisted they wrote and recorded as much as they could, and he would try to sing up until he couldn't. 😭
The Show Must Go On is my favorite Queen song. If you haven't already seen it, check out Queen's video Breakthru. It's one of my favorites for Queen. You can tell they were all having a blast.
Great song. Sadly this was the time when Freddie was seriously ill and was written/ composed mainly by Brian May. The video is a mix of all their past performances and videos.
Younger people finding joy in Queen 30+ years after Freddie departed is proof the show does go on. I think he’d be proud.

This is my favourite song of all time and has been since I was 12 years old. Has never failed to send chills through me at any listen in 32 years.
It's a great song and I believe one of the last songs that was recorded with Freddie. For me it's a top 10. The fact that they did so many amazing songs and many more are in my opinion better. My personal top 2 are Who Wants to Live Forever and Too Much Love Will Kill You.
I prefer the original version of Too Much Love Will Kill You sung by Brian May.
HI JOEL
DEBRA HERE FROM SOUTH WALES UK
The Freddie song I just cannot listen to without breaking my heart is "I'm Going Slightly Mad" as this was recorded days before he sadly left us, when he was recording it Sir Brian May said they had to do it in small takes as Freddie would get so tired and low on energy, you can see in that video how close he was to leaving us. I am such a huge Queen and Freddie Mercury fan as I have been since I was around 8 years old and I am now in my late 50s so I have been a Queen fan for coming up to 50 years, YIKES!!!! How can it be that long.
This is one of my favourite songs they did. I want this played at my funeral..My family know i want this one.
Queen has loads of most favourite songs. Whichever one I'm listening to is my favourite then when the next one comes on then that's my favourite. I like all the clips of previous videos they use to make this. I really enjoyed this.
Queen was the best band EVER, and Freddie was a magical being.
I love the queen reactions, they were amazing ❤
I love how much you loved this! You’re so endearing
We Will Rock You by Ben Elton which is basically just an excuse to belt out all those Queen songs, is back in London and I’ve got my tickets! Brilliant show.
Joel, watch the making of one vision to see how Queen construct a song from scratch
The story about (Dr Sir) Brian May writing this and worrying that Freddie wouldn't be able to sing it is one of my favourite Queen stories.
I was so sorry that George didn't join Queen after that.
Fortunately today HIV can be managed but not then
This always affects me as I know how I'll he was when he recorded it xx
Really nice reaction Joel. I like the way you relate the lyrics to your own experience and share them ❤
Queen rarely if ever block anything, they've just uploaded the re-release of The Miracle Album even though it's on sale on their website.
Simply love x
Great song. I'd love to see you react to 'The Miracle'. Another great Queen song with an even better video.
"Freddie's most beautiful gift" as Sir Brian called it.
Never give up ,keep on going .......Best wishes from Wales 🏴
I've waited so long for you to do this amasterpiece freddie's voice is outstanding (he was dying) still his voice is from another world ithink it easily for me could be number one but I have to give credit to bohemian rhapsody only because of this it will go to number 2 I'm so inlove with this one amazing and heartbreaking ❤️
I'm loving your queen reactions, fun fact Brian Mays guitar was made by his dad from an old piano aka red special
The song was among the last. The black and white images where he looks thin and not well were his final ones. Gave it all.
'Great song.. Queen lives forever
Brian said they worked out the theme a sad clown with his smile painted on
Freddie hard life he uses the intro of that opera song
Have you watched George Michael perform "Somebody to love" at the Freddie tribute concert? If not you're missing out, it's epic
That was a phenomenal performance, and Annie and Bowie singing Under Pressure was just mesmerising.
Hey Joel. Great reaction to this; not heard it in a while but the goosebumps came up just like the first time I heard it! Thanks for doing this one...
This is the best rock song...ever!!!
So true so sad to listen to it insane vocals out of this world ihave chills every time I hear this there have been only one freddie never will be another soon sad😢
My top 3 would be
1. The show must go on
2. Love of my life
3. Bohemian Rhapsody
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Freddie is the GOAT, the best frontman of any band ever.
My favourite Queen song. Along with under pressure.
The Show Must Go On is my favorite Queen song. If you haven't already seen it, check out Queen's video Breakthru. It's one of my favorites for Queen. You can tell they were all having a blast.
I also met Sir Brian May in 1988 when I worked in a newsagents in London.. Nice guy 😊
Great song. Sadly this was the time when Freddie was seriously ill and was written/ composed mainly by Brian May. The video is a mix of all their past performances and videos.
Nice reaction ❤
