To be honest, I was expecting worse, I've seen alot worse. I suppose if you really wanted to clean the rust off the edges of the board, you could use something like a fiberglass pen but then you would need to protect the bare copper with something. I've seen people use clear coat to protect it. I would have covered or painted the pads gray where the pressure plates go over to try and keep the shield looking stock, but that's just me :)
I'm just glad it wasn't a lot worse! Though knock on wood I haven't had anything come through that was super super bad. Bad yes but not nothing I can't handle. I never thought of that, nor knew that existed. I added the fiberglass pen to my wishlist. I'll give it a try! And have the clear coat covered! But when you own an old rusty Jeep, repainting and clear coating body parts tends to be a thing hahaha. I was waiting for someone to bring that up lol. I had that thought in editing where I was like "I should have went back and painted those". I'm usually more detailed oriented than that. Live and learn! I'll remember that for next time.
