@@TroutSoloNZ Thanks for watching. Yes, a very strong and spirited fish. As David Lee Roth (Van Halen belted out ‘Might as well Jump…!!!’…….
My fly line knotted and jammed in my reel (a first for me)…so I felt extremely fortunate to land it.

@@MichaelWill-rh2ly I noticed you quite a "birds nest" there. You did very well to land it. I have only been fly fishing for three years, so I'm still learning all the things that I can screw up 😁.

Cracking fish mate 👌 Do you have any tips regarding fly line, leader length and flies to use. Am covering fish in the estuary but am convinced the fly line is spooking them in the clearer water.

@@veesto69 Hi, my go-to fly line at the top of the tide is an Airflo 40+ Di3. Whether or not I fish a dropper will depend on the amount of weed running off. Assuming single fly only…then I’ll attach a 6ft length of 15lb Maxima to the fly line and connect my fly using a loop or Rapala knot. I like this knot as it lets the fly swim freely and helps facilitate the illusion of life while reducing the leverage on the knot should I be fortunate enough to hook a fish. As the tide runs off I continue fishing the Di3 until I’m taking the bottom. I can then opt to either increase leader length or change density to a lighter line….at which time I’d also increase the leader length to between 10-12ft. I’ve found that the fish aren’t leader shy, but can be picky. I prefer large suggestive patterns fished fast, rather than small immitative patterns fished slowly…..I want them to see it….but by pulling it back swiftly, they don’t get a close fix on it…so have to make a snap decision as to whether they engulf it or not. Hope this helps….tight lines.

Mate, that information is good dust! Thanks for that. The rapalla knot isn't something I've been using. I will be from now. I've had a really good season with about 40 sea trout but only 5 on the fly. I will adopt some of what you said
      Cheers again 👍
