I purchased an M1 MacBook Air with a 1TB SSD drive when they first came out. I was blown away by how fast it was and how long the battery life was. When I "upgraded" to the MacBook M1 Pro I should have sold the Air, but I didn't because I still found it to be impressive. I really didn't even see a huge difference between it and the M1 Pro except the display is so damn good on the Pro. The fact that Apple cheaped out on the SSDs on the M2's Air made me like the M1 MacBook Air even more.

First Mac I’ve ever touched is the one I currently have. MBP 13 M1. It’s basically a MBA M1 with fans and a Touch Bar if I remember correctly. If there is anything I’d criticise these for, it’s the 256gb SSD. I got paranoid after reading about dying M1s controversy. It’s about the units’ writing past the SSD’s cycle and killing the M1s back then. It’s when I learned that an SSD’s life span is predicted by its capacity. There are a lot of articles about this if you want to know more. But with these having built in SSDs, it was terrifying. Needless to say, I did get an external HDD for all my storage needs.
Also, they get hot IMO. The fans don’t kick in, but it’s hot. Probably a location thing. I live in a tropical country so a hot computer for me is probably just warm for you.

😆 I still ahve to crack a smile over that..... Apple's pushing out all the info they can and going 'trigger-happy' over how great something they themselves created, is "better",, but eye don't lie..
How many refurbished M1's are on the refurbished site ? If their soo good, why are they there? it means people returned them ..., so they can't be that good. You could argue everyone know returned them, didn't know what they were buying...... but seriously? two pages of M1's and no one has one single clue ? Pull the other leg, its got bells on ...
For what its worth, its a good machine,, I'm just bumped so many are exist on the refurbished store. Aside from saying $$$, its telling by how "much" there is there. and when you add that to Apple bloating about how great the machine is,, it really doesn't compare. There is no comparison..
In fact, i bought 'new' because i got a refurbished, which gave me a error, bricking my M1.... so its true what they say "Refurbished models may be better on the surface, and gone though their paces of fixes and everything worked out from usage, but its still not 100%"
How many PC's have i bought that failed.. on my lifetime ?? zero..

This is a solid pitch. You make a compelling argument to get the $800 M1 Air. Your point about not wasting money on more expensive specs, does not consider future longevity. My last two MacBook pros had upgraded processors and RAM which helped to get a couple more years of life out of them. However, the cost of the M1 Air and the base Mac Mini makes it very tempting. One can get a laptop and a desktop for $1300 and have some of the best tech at their fingertips for a long time.

I bought M1 MBA last week. there was a 375$ price gap between M2 MBA. with that money I saved, I bought a 4K monitor (priced 450$) which also charges my MBA through type-c cable, so the other thunderbold socked is free for my use. The end of the day: instead of buying just a M2 MBA, now I have a M1 MBA and a 4k Dell monitor setup.

I bought my M1 MacBook Air with 16GB of RAM used on FB market place a couple months ago for $600. It works FLAWLESSLY and I absolutely adore it. It is my first MacBook, I was pulled in because of how much I like my 12.9 M2 iPad Pro. Sadly I havent actually used my iPad since then. I do everything on my MacBook including gaming. My 2 fav installed games are Psychonauts 2 and RE Village, with a little bit of Hades and Apple Arcade games mixed in (NBA 2023 looks crazy good BTW). Everything runs and looks awesome. The only change ive made to it is adding a leather DBrand skin that makes me feel like Ron Burgundy :) Anyhow, great video. I will be upgrading to a newer/better MacBook in the future, now that I know how good this one is, but I dont feel the need to do so right away. For now this M1 does it all and is the MOST portable laptop I have. 1 more thing, it is an emulation MONSTER! Cheers!!!!

I have M1 13-inch MacBook Pro. Got a great deal on 1TB/16GB config about one year ago toward the end of its run (just before M2). The best Mac I’ve ever owned. It’s similar to M1 MacBook Air, slightly brighter display, slightly longer battery life per charge, slightly heavier, and has cooling fan (that I’ve never heard come on). And it has the Touch Bar, which I’ve grown to appreciate. I don’t expect needing a new Mac for many years.

Back in December of 2020 I purchased an 8GB/256GB M1 MacBook Pro. I've used it tirelessly. In March of this year, the audio only played in mono so I had to put it into Apple as I have Apple Care. 3 days later it was sent back to my local Apple Store perfectly fixed. Now my daughter uses that laptop. I went to BestBuy and bought a brand new M1 MacBook Air for 799.00 dollars. It's fast, it's fun, it's my go to computer. Yes, I said yes, this is the best Laptop for its price and performance for 2023 and don't waste time with an M2 because it throttles down unlike the M1 Air. Great video! 🌍PS You can get an M2 MacBook Air but you'll need a 1TB drive and 16GB RAM to not lose performance. 💻

It's just so pleasant to use and until it dies outside of AppleCare coverage, I don't see myself replacing it. I bought a MacBook M1 Air for $799 from Micro Center back in October 2021 and I have loved it ever since.
It is by far my favorite laptop ever, and it is my main computer, I use at home.
I use it way more than I use my Windows gaming PC.
I did get 2 year protection for $239 and now it seems like buying that was a waste. I have not had any issues whatsoever with the laptop, but I guess I have peace of mind.
The only thing is that I will eventually run out of space mostly from downloads, but I will just have to clean it out.
That 15 inch m2 Macbook Air looks really nice as well. I could use a larger screen when I am laying in bed.

I own one. It's the best computer ever made. I upgraded the SSD on purchase to 1 Tb and was happy to do so. There is nothing I can throw at this that it can't do silently. I don't know why you don't like the display; I think it's excellent. I use it to drive a 27" 3.5K external monitor, and don't know why you need more than 1 external. The ONLY reason I wouldn't buy one is if I insisted on a bigger internal screen for the laptop itself. 13.3" good, but the new 15" could be all this... and a bag of chips. But won't be an M1, nor at this price point.

I just got my M1 MacBook Air (which I have been wanting since it was introduced in 2020).
I'm convinced that this is the pinnacle of MacBook Air design. It's everything the 2014 MacBook wished it could be if it wasn't hobbled by that pathetic intel Core M processor.
The M1 seems to have been designed specifically for the Air. The two USB ports and limited RAM options feel restrictive on other Macs, but it's exactly what we've come to expect with the MacBook Air.
I think the first MacBook Air had only one USB port.
This had the best screen ever on an Air, as well as the best keyboard ever on an Air. And the sound is great!
I paid extra to get twice the RAM and twice the storage just because that's me. I expect to use this for quite a while.
Heck, the M2 MacBook Air doesn't even LOOK like a MacBook Air!

Got my M1 a month ago with 16 GB of RAM (future proofing). Here in Europe prices are a bit higher than in the US but still shot a good deal with that config. Even though it is my first ever Mac (used Windows before) I have adapted pretty fast to the new OS and I cannot complain so far. I am curious about if and how the battery life will change in the course of the next years as well as the performance. But I do not expect a big downfall since regarding apps I am quite minimalistic and I keep the battery regularly between 20% and 80%. Additionally, with the 16 GB RAM I do not think I would get into much of swap issues so my SSD would live "healthier" over the years. At least that is what I expect. Great video btw. and thanks for confirming my/our choice

    • @jack_2612
      @jack_2612 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Yes, the 16 gb ram was a spot-on choice. I bought an 8gb a few months before the m2 came out and it's not great at all. Hooked up to an external monitor, with all the scaling involved, my MB fills up the 8 gb in a minute and I always get 2 to 4 gb of swap used. I'm planning on upgrading at the end of the year when the new m3 series comes out (maybe a pro but I'll have to be sure it's worth it) and that won't be a pleasant experience, since I'm Italian and prices are absurd. Good thing I learned the lesson early in life, but sadly I did it the hard way...

I was stuck between the m1 MacBook Air and m2 MacBook Air. I almost went with the m1 but in the end got a 13 inch m2 for a pretty good deal. I wanted 16gb of ram and when upgrading the storage to 512 gb it solves the slower SSD complaint that the m1 didn't have. From what I could find the base model m1 was a great deal ($750 on amazon) but when looking for upgraded models the price didn't change much at all from original retail. For $1369 I was able to get the 13" m2 air 16/512/8core. For $370 above retail for a m1 base model, I'm pretty happy with my decision. That $750 base m1 was tempting though! If only I could have added the ram for $200.
You could be right that I could have been find with less ram, but I didn't want to find out and am coming from windows where 16 gigs was definitely needed. Chrome tabs can take up to like 6 gigs of ram sometimes... What do you think of the price I was able to pick up the m2 for? Good value?
