    I used a Makiwara punching board for many years ,and chudan punch is very hard to block after log time use of a makiwara board. Much heavier guys than me did not very often block my chudak punch away from their chest .I could power through their soto uke blocks.Tge sound effect of a strong chudan punch came from my 15 ounce tokaido gi ( a sort of crack sound ) I can still make that sound wearing a ordinary every day jacket .Its the power coming through your whole body into your fist at the split sec you tighten up as you make contact. ( I think its called Kime)
    Musta spent 8 years training, but stopped i 1980 ,yet can still make that crack sound in chudan punch ,and knife hand block at age 80.

    @gbe123321 Well, I was taught that the zenkutsu-dachi isn't meant to be a fighting stance, but a strong stance. Try getting into a zenkutsu-dachi twice (one time with your back leg bent, and the second time straight), and each time, have someone push/shove you from up front. If the back leg is straight, you won't fall. If bent, you probably will.

    i am a beginner too(just 4 months now), the way i am taught and the way i see it, back leg should be straight, with a bent back leg you are vulnerable to go down, well tell some one to stomp you on your back leg, you wont go down with a straight leg, whereas with a bent leg you risk injuring yourself(if he stomps), hope you understood what i mean...

    why do we start from a gedan barai when doing most basic techniques? Wouldn't it be more simple just to start by doing the actual technique that you are going to practise on? At least it would make it easier when trying to teach the techniques to a total beginner. Please answer!

      @jigneshrivankar9327 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      gedan barai is the easier technique and one more reason could be we start with a block always as shotokan karate Is a defensive form

    Hi, I am a purple belt from Brazil and I want to make a question. Is it true that the punch and the front leg must arrive at the same time when we are punching?

    • @acbhannemann
      @acbhannemann 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In most cases yes, your punch and step should finish at the same time. This helps develop timing, rhythm, coordination, and agility. It also looks better in formal demonstrations. But in all cases your sensei should be the final word for you on such questions while you are studying in his/her dojo.

    is it true that my back leg(at least the koshi) must remain on floor(and not be lifted) throughout the whole movement?

    • @jigneshrivankar9327
      @jigneshrivankar9327 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup it's true

    • @jigneshrivankar9327
      @jigneshrivankar9327 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      there is a zigzag pattern to be followed for the movement

    • @acbhannemann
      @acbhannemann 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. If your back leg comes off the ground through any part of the technique, and it was not intended for that specific technique, then you will likely fall over.

      Significant power is generated by keeping that back heel planted.

    I took shorin ryu and the chambered hand is supposed to be alligned with the body but in shotokan in the kata you keep your body turned a little bit to the side of the chambered hand for more power release but I was wondering when your doing the move outside the kata do you still keep your body turned or keep it straight and walk straight when you punch if so when is this acceptable? Im learning on my own any help would be greatful.

    That punch is ineffective for personal defense.

    • @godswillngwaka7488
      @godswillngwaka7488 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's ineffective if your punch is not a real traditional conditioned punch. In karate your entire body must go through conditioning so that when you perform a strike or block you end your opponent in one move. A leg block can break your opponents leg as well as one straight punch can obliterate your opponents internal organs.
