Android 17 and Android 18 (sorry, CYBORGS) are not made mostly of machinery at all. They were enhanced with bio-organic components. Their only mechanical parts are the emergency deactivation controller, a self-destruction device (removed), and a small perpetual energy reactor that provides them with inexhaustible energy and stamina. Besides those minor things, Android 17 and 18 are completely normal humans.

As for why the androids didn't just fly there in the first place: because there is no sense of urgency to them. This is all just a big game to them, and as far as they're concerned, they have all the time in the world. So they (mostly 17, with 16 and 18 just going along with it) are just screwing around and doing whatever they feel like. It's like if you suddenly woke up one day all-powerful and immortal. You can just do whatever you want, and no one could stop you.
Also: 17 is forever frozen in his teenage years so he just thinks things like driving and guns are cool.

It seems that what makes the Hypersonic Lion Tamer so deadly is (1) its extreme scope of sizzling to freezing temperatures, and that (2) being trapped in a wide white void can drive you insane in a few months, not to mention a whole year.
In a sense it seems like it's set up perfectly for mental and spiritual training. Perfect for the martial arts roots of the series. It's kind of a waste that it only really gets used for physical training in the series.

You are right. For anyone wondering, look up "white room torture". The room interior is smooth (so no variety to touch), food is rice on a white plate, the clothes and room are white, the lights in the ceiling are designed so there are no shadows, there is no window, the guards wear padded boots (so no sounds), the cells are soundproofed and isolated, etc. All psychological torture, nothing physical.
8:08 This was actually the moment a good number of DB fans learned the names of 17&18, myself included. I thought DBZA were just making that up. The names of the androids were never revealed, not even in the manga. Toriyama gave their real names in a random ass interview, 20 years later. And you know why he didn't reveal it before ? One of the most baffling parts of both the Buu saga and both sequel series to me is that they still call them 17 and 18. Despite it being established that they hated everything to do with Gero the series never had the decency to give them their names back probably because marketing.

@@starstreamheartlocke652 Probably because at this point, the casual fan most likely still doesn't know their real names (and I don't blame them, they were revealed in a random interview), and the fandom in general is more used to calling them 17 and 18. Also, supposedly Gero erased their memories when he kidnapped them, so if that is true, they don't even remember their real names, which is just another sad thing to add to them.
@@marianarobles7735 Well, obviously the casua fan isn't going to know if the show never tells you. Super came out after the interview, that would've been a chance to fix that.
As for how Piccolo knows of the inhabited Islands, it might be because of his fusion with Kami. In the original lore, Kami watches over all the Earth and is aware of everything that is happening, like Cell's first appearance on Gingertown; that's how Piccolo immediately knew where to go after fusing with him.
There's also this recurring joke about TFS Piccolo wandering in inhabited places throughout the world, because he has nobody to be with and cannot afford to have a house.
I always just thought it was because the joke is that Piccolo just likes hanging out in uninhabited wastelands, but that could fit the theory as well.

In fact, for a very long time, _most_ Shonen protagonists were heavily influenced by Goku in some way. Goku was to Shonen Manga what Superman was to American superhero comics: so influential he's basically the default- a stock character.

Tien's one of goku's rivals from og there was : yamcha, krillin, tien and piccolo( jr not king) who were all goku's rivals at some point in the story
yamcha is hardly a rival. they had one fight where goku was hungry
99% of all of goku's friends started out as his rivals. and they all got sidelined, except for vegeta. this applies even in super.

I love how Tien's suggestions of ridiculous names for the evolution of super saiyan actually sound a lot better than the canon form "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan".
Honestly, the original name for blue sounds like it came straight out of an abridged series.
Back when I was in primary school we used to call super saiyan 4 "Ultra saiyan", I guess because even as kids we kind of felt that just slapping a bigger number on it every time was kind of lame.

@@gameuniverse5973 Originally they decided on that name because it represented what the form was (a Super Saiyan God or the red one turning into a Super Saiyan), but it was obviously a tongue twister and when the anime was in production it would be hard to say that name constantly during the story, so they came up with the "brilliant" idea of calling it blue, but because the old name was already trademarked, they still use it for videogames and also the card game.
Honestly I wish they had just called Super Saiyan God "Saiyan God" or "God Saiyan" and then when SSB happened they could just call it "Super Saiyan God" or "God Super Saiyan"

The reason why they used a car to go to Goku's house is because 17 likes cars, and he wanted to drive one. He likes to make things fun instead of finishing right away.

What happened here was that Goku fired a Kamehameha that split the ocean. He woke up and that’s the very first thing he did for no discernible reason, specifically just to make his return extra dramatic.

Android 16 being his son was never actually confirmed I believe it was just a theory but it has been made canon recently. Also android 17 and 18 were humans and technical still are, they were kidnapped and turned into androids(cyborgs technically) by gero, so they are just humans that are enhanced.
The son thing was taken from an interview that had come out around that time. The same interview is the one where he came up with the Androids names.

Popo isn't seeing Kami, it's just that seeing Goku on the lookout reminds him of the time it was just him, Goku, and Kami on the lookout, which makes him think of Kami, whose irretrievably gone now that he's fused back with Piccolo.

Chris Zito, the voice of The Wombat, ran a very impressive D&D campaign that a few of the TFS members took part in. It's the last thing HBI2K (voice of Nail and Dr Briefs among others) did with the group, and he left midway through the campaign.
I have two parrots so I find myself saying "I want to see the parrots" in 16's low deadpan a fair amount.

It just hit me after all this time, Popo only sees Kami because of seeing Goku for the first time in a while, he probably had Kid Goku and Kami nostalgia whiplash him hard enough to have feelings again.

The adventure, quest, and techniques actually mattering instead of power level dick waving. That sounds fun. DragonBall Z? The only good thing to come of it was the abridged series.

The cool thing about Android 16 being Giro's son is that only last month Toriyama confirmed it as canon. Meaning that TFS beat Word of God himself by 7 years!

It was actually taken from a Toriyama interview that had happened recently at the time. The same interview was the one where he came up with- I mean, revealed the real names of the Androids. That's the whole point of the joke "are you making that up, because it feels like you're making that up."
It was already confirmed by Toriyama years ago. But now we know his actual name and his actual mother, who is Android 21. But obviously she's not canonically an Android.
@8:59 yes but it's NOT the Cell that's attacking. That Cell is from Future Trunks universe. He traveled back in time because he grew up AFTER Trunks goes back and defeats the Androids in HIS timeline. He snuck up behind him.
note: it MIGHT be that the Cell that's attacking is from before Future Trunks beats the Future Timeline Androids but an Alt timeline to the Trunks that successfully escapes to the past. (DB is crazy complex at times xD) Cell DOES sneak up behind him though.

Vegeta wasn't around during the DB days, so he never met Kami. And since he's not exactly on friendly terms with the gang, I doubt they've taken the time to sit down and have a nice chat with him about it.
Not that hed actualy sit (or stand) and listen to it. He hasnt ever bithered to even truly explain Saiya-jin culture to Kakarot or Gohan more then Saiya-jins like strong willed women and fighting.

He (Lani) also ran a homebrew D&D horror themed one shot on TFS At The Table. It was called Terror at Grimhaven. He was the DM, of course, the voice of Nail (hbi2k, AKA Ben Creighton) playing "Balls" (Baalzathoth (Bales-ath-awth)) the demon from Hell, Master Wuggles (Grant Smith) playing Kane (named for Jason Voorhees actor Kane Hodder) the undead Jason Voorhees stand-in, and CZBacklash (Chris Zito) playing a mad scientist whose name escapes me. Good times were had by all (well, the trio and Lani, their victims weren't having a great time).

Vegeta never met Kami lol he showed up to Earth, fought Goku, left to go to Namek, stayed at Bulmas for a week, then trained in Space for about a year.
This is one of the only times krillin actually does something in dbza
All that Tenshinhan does is train. He is litterally a human version of Goku. He invests every second he has into becoming a better and stronger martial artist.
The comparison between Gokus and Tenshinhans powerlevel is basically showing us how unfair of an advantage it is to be born as a saiyan.
Krillin, Chiaotzu, Roshi and Tien all died once in OG Dragon Ball. 17's for the Hell of it road trip detour is canon.

To answer your question about what Tien does in DBZ, he spends practically all of his time off-screen training and trying to get stronger. It doesn't seem to help him much, especially considering just how wide the power gap is between him and the rest of the cast.
But you've gotta give the man props for being committed and at least attempting to stay battle-ready in case something goes down. The only other Z fighters that still train regularly nowadays are Goku, Vegeta, and Piccolo.
The real reason for the hyperbolic chamber use is never truly explained. But it is usually to two people at a time, and its use is limited to how much a person can use it
