    That was very well done - great explanations, excellent viewing angles and lots of experience and know-how. I really liked hearing you talk about using that beautiful compost for later and you made great use out of those rocks you dug up. As usual, first class work and presentation. And honestly, as much as I always like your videos, you get better all the time. Thanks for all the hard work and for sharing your projects.

    D-Boss! betcha you won’t do that again, i know you wanted to try out the grapple bucket, but you know the mini would of been easier, or maybe it’s me, i don’t like using the skid steer, least favorite machine with all the back and forth and banging around inside, anyhow sweet video, keep doing it up!

      No this job's an hour away and I have to put the driveway in with the skid steer so I wasn't going to trailer a mini down here too I love the skid steer though I got most of my experience in one

    Root rake grapples are such versatile tools, I use a Quick Attach Quick Claw. It's great for loading brush and logs into trucks because the material falls straight down when you open the grapple. Now If we could only use our Tilt-Tach's with them, We'd be cooking with gas!

    I've been watching your videos for a few months now. You do awesome work in each of them but I have a question? You explained why you don't put the fabric on the covert pipe. You want it to bind up, but how much distance should you have before you start laying down the fabric? Or does it depend on the soil conditions? Would it be okay to start laying out the fabric 5 or 6 feet past the covert pipe? Thanks again for making such informative videos.. Keep up the great job and stay healthy..

    • @DIRT-BOSS
      @DIRT-BOSS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can put the fabric right after the cover It all goes on conditions this particular job was all rock for the first 15 ft off the driveway so I knew I was safe just to dump the load Plus it was 2 ft thick

    All I have is a skid steer, so I really like seeing jobs that can be done with only that machine. I have a grapple bucket, and a smooth bucket, and I'm looking at getting either a box blade or a land plane, mainly targeted at gravel driveway repair. Any advice on what to look at?

    • @DIRT-BOSS
      @DIRT-BOSS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's awesome other TH-camrs say mini excavators should be the first machine No way Skid steer is way more versatile and get a lot of jobs done with them.. as far as attachments I really don't have any input on it

    • @DIRT-BOSS
      @DIRT-BOSS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I cut the fabric back in when putting the driveway in it's two foot thick off the road so there was no need for fabric there It was all rock

    Hey Mike, just wondering but have you thought of welding in some kind of expanded wire mesh behind (or in front) of the 4 oval holes in the center of the grapple, just below the new step you installed? Why I ask is the wire mesh would allow you to see through the holes but at the same time protect the quick attach ram behind it (and maybe the hoses) should a piece of limb or other debris slip through while pushing into a pile of trash, rubble, tree limbs, etc. Just a thought. Stanley in Md.

    • @DIRT-BOSS
      @DIRT-BOSS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No it's a good thought but it's supposed to allow the dirt to go through it but yeah it definitely could be modified if needed

    @larryvisser1086 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Really like this video and the follow up doing the driveway.
    Not sure if you can answer this question due to location and soil types but what would your ultimate gravel driveway be?
    Would it be better to put in a temporary drive for the heavy construction traffic (concrete trucks, well trucks, excavators etc.)
    And then regrade and put down fabric and finish stone or will the fabric hold up to the heavy traffic.

    • @DIRT-BOSS
      @DIRT-BOSS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah It all depends on soil and project if they're ready to go and the site is full swing will put a access road with gravel and then top it after the project's done It all goes on budget though and time frame

    Nice job Mike! We had a lot of this type of work done over the years on the Ranch/farm, all hiring fellas like yourself. Even after watching them and then doing it ourselves sometimes, I can still learn when I watch you. I used to think I was cheating by covering the ends with larger rocks first!!! Hahaha. Even the guys working for me said that. None of us had any experience, we were just hacks,,,, but hey. Then once the contractor would drop off the gravel I would hand shovel into the corners and sides. I was never great in our Bobcats and later John Deere track loaders. I could get the job done is all. I would probably hand shovel 20% of that rock!!! Then finish it out with the Bobcat or Skid steer. I did a much better job with ourJCB zoom booms actually!!
    We had the skid steers to clean most of our yard corrals, clear snow in winter and general duties. The original loader for the feedlot section was an old Case W-14 “Feedlot Special” articulated unit. I was good with that as it’s what I learned on. Then we got one JCB and it dropped in value so much that we were able to get at auction another one with only about 500 hours on it. Alberta being an oil province was always feast or famine as the market fluctuated. We did alright almost all the time through a bit of diversification but we able get some nice low hour farm equipment when things were bust and auctioned.
    Anyways it was a 2-3 day job and then when all was done it was only adequate. I would eventually need someone in to fix the roads, or build more roads as we grew and then have them clean up, sometimes rip out (3 x) the culvert and redo it,,,,,,,.
    It takes years of experience and knowledge like you have to get it done quickly and efficiently (like how good you are with the tilt bucket, saves a ton of shovelling) and when all is done it looks great!! I won’t ever do anything like this again in the future, but I still love that you share and teach us how you do things. You are very good at what you do and also a great guy!!
    Thanks Mike!
