Dude, I came back to this video to thank you! The two tape measures just seems to make the most sense. I'm digging my house footers now and this was just handy. No way I would do any other method
I have to tell you that you just gave the best full explanations of how that laser system worked that I have seen. I've seen others and understood the general idea, of course, but when you showed your measurements, laser placement, etc. it really all came together. BTW, I noticed some X's and other little marks in red in the bottom of the trenches at the end of the job. Was that to indicate it was all raked, level, to grade and OK for inspection? You really have an excellent channel, and rest assured, it will grow - don't get discouraged. You have an excellent technique already. I've seen other good channels grow - one was around 40 thousand a year ago and he has almost 200K now. Another guy hit 1000 just 4 months ago and now he has over 5000.
Im confused in the very beginning on where you’re pulling the two 100 foot tapes from. I see how you pulled 20 foot from that wood steak and found the first corner that way . But I’m lost on where It looked like you pulled 36 feet from that corner you had established but where did you hold the 2nd tape to get your diagonal measurement?
Yes I got the 20 ft and then from my 20 ft I've measured the distance of the house and put the other pin on the parallel string line.. which that one would have been The one I pulled off to get the 36
Awesome video. Question. When you use the excavator and scooping of the dirt does it always leave a level ground or are you doing the adjustments with the rise of the arm to keep it level? Sorry for the dumb questions but never used one before.

Dale wow that means so much! Thanks again!
Dale.. to answer your question yes the x's mean grade is good.. if there's 1 2 3 ECT means the grade has to be cut that amount in inches.
Thanks for your explanations on layout and laser!,
You're welcome Mike
Nice layouts methods.. Good men do good things right.....
Thanks for watching!
Really helpful. Next time, could you show how you install the sewer system for new house.
Yes I have a very detailed video of a septic system
How did you come up with the diagonal measurement?
It's a math equation but they make apps for that also
