- American red oak is the most common species of the American Hardwood Forest. The wood is characterised by its porous structure, sometimes with a pinkish hue. Despite its many qualities, American red oak is often wrongfully seen in Europe as a lesser version of American white oak and European oak. In this video, craftsmen from Benchmark Furniture explore the aesthetic and performative qualities of the oak.
Honesty + High Skill = Masterpiece

If you're not making whiskey, then you're just wasting oak.....
Hello sir
Red oak is not for making barrels or for cooperage. Use white oak instead, unless you wish seeing whiskey being lost.
Red oak rots far more easily. That is why it is inferior than white oak. It is not prejudice. Red oak is indeed inferior and not recommended for outdoor use.
That was a really superlative video, too bad it was completely uninformative of basically pointless. But I really might be missing the point. I don’t know. If we are talking the differences between red oak and white oak broadly, then most educated woodworkers already know about that.
It was pointless.
