We’ve now officially done station focuses for the whole Sheppard Line! Enjoy some casual riding if you’re bored: th-cam.com/play/PLwoYcvp1EGSf3TDNvX4Z31JM1pDZCmixw.html
Before the route numberings came along, the original plans called for the #4 (Sheppard Avenue) Line to operate as an uptown version of the current #2 (Bloor-Danforth) Line between Downsview (now simply renamed as Sheppard Avenue West thanks to 12/17's #1 Line extension to Vaughn Metropolitan Center, and lazy probable confusion with next station Downsview Park) and Scarborough Town Center; looking at the track map, "through service" could have operated from anywhere along the current #1 (Yonge/University/Spadina) Line to here and turned eastward or split the #1 half each way both beginning at Union Station (geographically shown on an older map); rapid transit service could have operated along what is now the Union Pearson Express with a Downtown Relief Line to fulfill what could have been done along Queen Street years earlier; for years I always thought trains operated to/from Steeles Avenue, now the #5 (Eglinton Avenue Crosstown under construction) is stepping up to the rapid transit plate within the next 2 years, it would be nice if it were heavy rail service-no disrespect to light rail service; too bad there's no extension into Mississauga (how's Mistersauga?). . .as usual, just like here in USA, nimbyism/politricks/money while all transit fans are yet stuck with another 'What if' fantasy transit system; on a lighter note: I love Old Mill Station because it looks like a floating museum.
The original line was supposed to go to Vic Park. Those extra two stations would actually make the line signficantly more useful instead of a bit of a shuttle to Don Mills.
An extension to the West would be very useful, for Shoppers its almost the same time to get to Eaton as Yorkdale from here, as well as for students at York!
I really thought the main core and development north of Bloor was going to be Yonge-Sheppard and not Yonge-Eglinton. But in recent years, Yonge&Eg has really blown up, while Yonge-Sheppard feels disconnected and cold. Based on all the transport and access in area, I thought Yonge-Sheppard would be a easy choice for offices looking for cheaper rent than downtown. And I also thought the 4km strip on Sheppard from Yonge to Leslie and the 4km strip on Yonge from Sheppard to Steeles would become dense downtown like streets with lots of retail, residences, and walking access. Seems I was wrong, although Yonge from Shep to Finch is beginning to have a bit of that feel.
I think the issue is access, Eglinton is closer to Downtown and will have better East West Access due to the Eglinton line, which is fueling a lot of the growth.
@@RMTransit Honestly, I think the only advantage Eglinton has is that it is closer to downtown and on the subway the difference is about 10 mins. But in my view (ignoring the crosstown for now), in the last 15 years, Yonge-Shep has had much better access than Yonge-Eg on everywhere other than proximity to downtown. Both have a subway but Yonge-Shep has an interchange and even though the Sheppard line is small, it still counts for something. Yonge-Shep is just off North America's busiest highway (Hwy 401) making it accessible to both ends of the city and the airport quite quickly. Hwy 401 can also get you quickly to Hwy 404 and DVP. So for commuters by car getting from Richmond Hill, Markham, etc is quite. And as you mentioned in the video, there is some access via Go. So considering that, I thought Yonge-Shep would become a major office and residence hub.
I use this station so much as I live at Don Mills station, and basically x-fer here anytime I use the subway. OMG, I love how shit got real a few seconds in. This station is a mess! The bus xfer is awful especially from the Sheppard subway (like a 5 minute walk). You actually have to go down to Yonge line. The subway xfer is pretty good though, so I shouldn't hate too much. Sheppard line concourse is actually quite useful for accessing the neighbourhood on the west side which has an amazing ravine if you like hiking.
One thing I just realized. I live in Montreal, and the metro here has metal turnstiles at the entrances to the platforms. This has seemed more convenient to me since when you are walking fast during the morning rush, you can push through without any fear of breaking them. The plastic doors to the platforms in Toronto and Ottawa look fragile, and having to wait for them to open just slows down commuters during rush hour.
This is a benefit of Montreal's turnstiles, though they are less accessible than Toronto and Ottawas and oh my if your card doesn't read right . . . Ideally they would operate much faster like in Paris, or be open by default like in Japan!
I agree. About accessibility, most (if not all) stations in Montreal have at least one entrance with doors that slide open, providing easy access to those who might find difficulty in going through the turnstiles.
@@RMTransit well i have to take the bus to get there so i already have to use presto, but going thru the barriers i just tell the guy at the barriers that i work at the starbucks, and they let me thru
That's a big station all right, but too bad they didn't spend some money to make it look nice. It even looks unfinished in many places and just dingy and tired overall in spite of being relatively young. Still, thanks for the presentation! It's always interesting seeing these places.
Thanks! Yeah, it doesn't get enough love. Would be nice if the malls etc attached funded improvements, since its essentially an extension of their properties at least in the view of riders!
Those ttc employees who just stand there aren't worth the salary..that's the reason we have such high fares because they pay people to do literally nothing..it's worse at Bayview and bessarion..why do they need 5+ employees standing around
If you think that the Sheppard Station is a mess at least it's offset by the Besarian Station😉 (Torontonians will know what I mean!) Actually the Sheppard subway should never have been built in the first place. It was a virtual "retirement gift" to the former North York Mayor. The Eglinton Crosstown will be far more practical and useful.

They really need to extend the Sheppard line. Way too short.
Exactly; at least extend it to connect with the other side of Line 1.
They would have to build an underground bridge under Sheppard Avenue west over don valley west river

Nice!! Sheppard-yonge is really interesting

Yeah, but plenty of stations are not accessible at all

ooooooh, how did you get in without Presto?

You could say the same about Toronto in general.
oh i love the mural
Its really beautiful!
Is that Reece's voice?
I swear you could say the same criticisms about the TTC and even the city in general.
To a less extent
Eglinton line will be quite good line
Can you go to the Stouffville line corridor and give us an update about the stations being updated. That’s Kennedy, Agincourt, and Milliken pls.
I’m not longer in Toronto
RMTransit Oh allright, but I do wish you congratulations to your new home and I hope you’ll have a happy life there.
"Highly coveted Starbucks"
*Angry Tim Hortons noises intensifies*
Haha
It my work station

Have not been here since 2017 IIRC
It sounds like you're saying "Chronno" instead of "Toronto."
as it should be ;)
A correct pronunciation. Technically the true pronunciation is Tuh-Ronn-Oh

Why do they only operate one track...it's such a waste of space and money
