Photoshop and Lightroom are pretty mature programs. It's going to be hard to beat them in a professional context. I haven't tried pixel Mater yet, thanks for the introduction!
I like your thoughts about both Photoshop and Pixelmator Pro. They feel relevant and based on personal experience of both programs. I only wonder if some of the limitations compared to Lightroom could be due to that their other program, Photomator is a more fair comparison.
Gotta disagree with you there. To rival Adobe, you don't want to do the same thing as Adobe - namely, create a subscription based software suite to nickel-and-dime your client base.

My guess is Affinity photo might be more suited to your needs.
I believe Photomator would be the Lightroom equivalent for photo processing. At least that works for me. Thank you!
They do have a Pixelmator for iPados, it’s not called Pro tho. I wonder if Apple will end up merging both.
Not the same! There’s no Pixelmator Pro for iPad… yet.
