Had a Frontosa for 35 years but lost him to Hurricane Sandy Fed him just 1 boiled Egg every day which I believe is why he lived so long with the high protein I’ve been in this hobby for over 50 years and raised many African Cichlids but My favorite is the Frontosa
I only had koi for my pond and was doing a search on youtube for them when I stumbled upon a video of them. Before I even saw the video I was hooked and haven't looked back. I love my frontosa's.
Once again… I’m researching a fish species I’m considering getting.. and Prime time has a profile. Always very informative and full of facts. Thanks again!
That reflection of the 🔥 on one side and the disco ball reflecting on the other side of the rock structure is pretty cool. It’s like someone was at home enjoying a nice fire while a party is going on a couple doors down, lol!
I just got one of these last Saturday from a local breeder. I have him in my peacock tank but I hope to keep for many years perhaps in a dedicated species tank. Love it!
I can't tell you how much I love this species! Just a fantastic fish. Colorful, active, personable. My big male was the peace keeper in the tank. He didn't tolerate any fighting or squabbles. They're also great parents (mine were, anyway). You definitely need a tank bigger than 55 gals if you're keeping more than one. My big male was HUGE. Mine were in a community tank with Kribs and yellow labs and they worked out for me.
Beautiful fish. I had some good news today. I had a phonecall from Maidenhead aquatics. My aquarium is ready and will be delivered on Monday. Bubbly or Coffee is on me guys. So Excited.🍵🍹🤸🤸♂🤸♀😁
Love this display. I have one in a 125. I absolutely love them. It is my favorite fish. I have a mostly hap tank with a synnadonis and rhino pleco. No mbuna
I have a 14 inch Frontosa and it's an absolutely amazing fish. I recently added another one 6 months ago and the big boy is lively now! Peaceful but awesome fish.
Great video. I had been waiting for you to cover frontosas for a while now. I have my colony in a 180 gallon and as they grow I do think something bigger is better as well. Once they start breeding, they'll breed pretty regularly from what I've seen
Calvus and Compressiceps are a good choice if you buy them at a small size along with small Frontosa, both take a long while to grow and the Calvus and Comps get big enough so they wont be eaten later on!
Wow AMAZING TANK! I saw this Frontosa fish for the first time at our local fish store today and instantly fell in love with it! I told the staff there that this fish is so ugly but so nice 😂 😍🤩 really tempted to bring it home but gotta do some research first 🙂 😆
I have 3 frontosa all about 6-7 inches in a 100 gallon with a bunch of haps and peacocks overstocked with a synodontis a and a bushy nose tank works amazing the ecosystem is so balanced gonna give the frontosa away to my friend who has a 300 gallon when they get to big but they grow so slow I’m gonna get a bunch more years out of them that’s how I’ve hade it work in my 100 gallon
Just started my front tank. I have 10 2" juveniles in a 150. I'm going to keep my favorite male and 4 females. I know it's a tad under your 180, but im running 4 canisters and a aquaclear 110 with regular changes.
I've got a pretty large male frontosa he shares his tank with green dragon pleco dragon blood, aulonocara. Electric yellow, & Electric blue. The Electric blue ran thr tank day 1, next morning it was all frontosa
I've bought a group of frontosa from a local fish store, but they haven't eat anything from the day i kept in my aquarium. One week has already passed. Please help
I always try feeding them bloodworms. If they won't eat them I know something is wrong internally most likely (also check water parameters and make sure there isn't an ammonia or nitrite spike).
I bought a little Frontosa last week. About 1 inch long and he wasn’t eating either until I dropped a couple of sinking tetra pellets, and the fish went crazy for them. He eats a couple of flakes also but it’s more of the pellets.
With the neolamprologus Brichardi the issue I've seen isn't that the frontosa eat them as they get big. It is that the Brichardi breed and then bully the Frontosa. I saw a 400 gallon mixed cichlid tank once that had brichardi in it that had spawned many times. The colony was so big and got so agressive that the larger Frontosa, Haps and Peacocks literally were bunched in the upper back coners and pinned there. Once that started the store that had the tank had a massive Brichardi sale on all the fry and juveniles lol.
Nice video very informative but keeping those nitrates 20ppm or less is pretty tuff to manage..mines usually around 40 to 60 or even higher when it's time to do my weekly water changes...i run a fx6 and aquatic 500 Mii with UV
Hi i would like to ask, please do you think i can put Frontosa in living room where is my big tv? I heard they may be scared of tv, home theatre etc? Bcs they are very calm. Is ti true? What do you think? Tank will be oposite of tv maybe 6 meter long. thanks
Anyone ever see a yellow with black stripe Frontosa? I don’t normally shop big box stores but for 8 dollars I got one of the coolest fish Ive seen. I have few frontosa and this fish looks just like them. ?
A few questions. Is that rock stack a backdrop or a decoration in the tank. If it’s a decoration where do I get one from. I have a 4 ft tank with a 7 bar frontosa and 2 striped silver dollars. The frontosa is slightly aggressive. He gets in moods where he chases the silver dollars and tries to bite them. If I wanted to put a female with him would it need to be more than one and would he still be aggressive towards her as well or would they be ok together. It’s currently the three of them together and I want to add some more. Is that a smart idea or not. Any one with experience please feel free to message me and help out
I have been a marine Aquarius for over 20 years and finally taking a venture into freshwater. I have a 96 X 36X 44 tank that I am setting up with 100 gallon Sam. I chose to make it species only what would be a good size Frontosa colony to start system with?
I'd like to ask a crazy question I just rescued three full size silver dollar fish and a 12 comon pleco that had been left for weeks no food no filtration can I put them in a 36 gallon bow front tank and they will be happy of should I go bigger like a 75 I know plecos get big I'm just think for a couple years I live in an apartment
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thank you i was leaning to the 75 I'm going to need a bigger place to live soon not complaining this is just another good reason to do so been needing that push for years
Thank you! Like I said to Jason, The person who said this ridiculous comment to me is of an intelligence level that this would be no Surprise. PS: This individual also forgot that I have had convict cichlids.. I kind of know what they look like? 🤯🤔🧐
i reckon about five fronts too many and why is there only structures in the back they need them in the middle and sides because they are not "school fish" its like you just took a 800 gallon tank and threw it into the garbage they should have the choice to socialize theyre very intelligent fish also of the alpha runs amuck its just party of the natural fish process to either decide to allow breeding or quarantine him but in this setup hes deluded and will never breed it is more noticeable in a structered tank but i wouldnt even put mennos in an open space staring at more space
Correction - tank size is 96 x 40 x 40.

Fire 🔥 behind the display?! What a stunning aquarium. Stunning fish! Thank you as always for an amazing profile!
i love watching this tank in the ohio fish rescue videos. they do amazing work for their fish
Yes they do!

Thank you for being here!
Great video on one of the most iconic fish in all of African cichlids. Nice work!
Thank you Bentley! Hope you are doing well.

Really Enjoy the Species Profile videos. It was really cool to see you hang out at the OFR a little while back.
Thank you!
They look so chilled and the colour is amazing
They're usually a fairly inactive fish.
The very best review I have ever seen on the Frontosa cichlids. Keep up the good work 👏. God bless !!
Thank you!
I just got one of these last Saturday from a local breeder. I have him in my peacock tank but I hope to keep for many years perhaps in a dedicated species tank. Love it!
That will be cool.
Video intro is very high quality Jason. Nice work.
I am extremely lucky to live 10 minutes away from both of these tanks. I have seen them in person many times. They are the reason why I have frontosa.
The video I’ve been waiting for !!! Thank you guys

Good I have a 150 G so when he gets bigger he will go in there.
Are they still all live peaceful?
@@mrSanga07 unfortunately, I had to move and had to sell the fish off, so I have no idea.
Ohh! sad to hear that. Hope they are doing fine in their new home.
I did not relly like this fish, until I watched this video. Great looking fish
Oh wow! They are amazing. I can only dream of having those and a tank that size. Thank you Jason such a great video
I like how they look like their standing up, somehow, in water.

YAY another african cichlid profile. These imo asre the most entertaining profiles since there arent much on thrm

I have two colonies of Kitumba. Love these guys.
Awesome!
Brilliant tank.
I miss my big frontosa he wasn't slow or shy just beautiful. I was thinking of getting 4 to go with my Red head Geos. Thanks for video you guys are 👌
I need the water & food to get them to point, I love them
Good tank and sooo good fishs

One of my favourite fish 🐟
I love how their black lips make them look so sad. Such a beautiful fish! I think I will stick with fish that can go in a 20 long to 120g. 💙
Seriously considering getting a group and giving them my just under 7ft long by 28in wide and 26in high main aquarium!
Just so you know - the Ph at the Southern end of the Lake is 9.5 - 9.7. I have personally tested this with hobbyist test kits.
Wow!! What fabulous fish. They are beautiful. I think a species only tank with them would be fantastic 🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟
Got my colony of 9 with couple Platinum Angels and Green Terror.

Do a tropheus care tooo pls
Excellent video, pity I don’t have a tank big enough for them 🙁 . Loved Joanna’s puppetry skills a the end 😂
I can't remember if that was Joanna or Kasia. Haha

I have a 120 gal 5 foot tank. How many frontosa can I have in there? The tank has a fx6 and seachem tidal 110
I love frontosa. I had a beautiful male specimen for about 10years. He was close to 15"
And his tank mates were a group of congo tetras
Cool combo!
So beautiful fish, fantastic. Thanks for sharing.
👌👌👌😍😍
Thank you!
I’ve been keeping fronts since the 80S never owned anything else ❤️

i have a 125 gallon 5ft tank .... was looking to go species only ... 3 females to 1 male....
Beautiful fish and that tank...incredible. but the plush frontosa...more my jam 🤣🤣🤣. I'm a community little fish kinda gal

Can you mix the 6 strips frontdosa with the black widow?
Sure

I think fish generally get used to their surroundings as long as there isn’t extreme noise or changing light.
Can I keep a single frontosa in a 75g long term? He has 3 rose lines w him n 2 congo tetras and 3 green Cory cats...he's 6in right now.
It might start to look a little cramped when it is full grown?
Good Morning.
Good morning :-)
Is it a good idea to keep them in a bare bottom tank?
If you prefer that you certainly can.

The rocks where actual rocks - not a 3D back ground. Using flagstone is usually the cheapest way to go.

That’s going to be really cool. Very similar size to the tank here. I could see 20 being a good number.
Nice!
Can anyone tell me if it’s ok to mix frontosa types like Moba, 7 bar & Burundi ect together?
Yes, but I probably wouldn’t sell any of the offspring if they hybridize.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics definitely agree, I just want to add numbers to the colony to bring down aggression is all
Thanks for the reply
I'd like to ask a crazy question I just rescued three full size silver dollar fish and a 12 comon pleco that had been left for weeks no food no filtration can I put them in a 36 gallon bow front tank and they will be happy of should I go bigger like a 75 I know plecos get big I'm just think for a couple years I live in an apartment
Silver dollars can get fairly large so I would put them in at least a 4ft tank. The pleco will eventually need a 6ft-8ft tank ideally.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics thank you i was leaning to the 75 I'm going to need a bigger place to live soon not complaining this is just another good reason to do so been needing that push for years
5ft long and height 2ft is it okay for them?
Probably not long term. They grow slow, but will eventually need a much larger tank when kept in a group.
96x36x36 =538.60 gallons not 700 gallons. I have a tank the same dimensions... other than that great video for beginners as usual... bravo
I might have been off on one of the dimensions.
Do you have female frontosa for sale?
I don’t - sorry
A pretty ,gentle semi-on the large side fishy 😎..nice.I heard someone say "Oh ,Frontosa are the same as Convicts!"Really?Um,nope.
Neolamprologus tretocephalus looks a lot like a frontosa ( minus the big bump, the size and the slightly longer shape
I don't think they have much in common other than being cichlids. Haha
Exactly, Thank you! Considering the intelligence level of this particular individual (believe me !)that remark was absolutely no surprise to me.

PS: This individual also forgot that I have had convict cichlids.. I kind of know what they look like? 🤯🤔🧐
Then I have no idea what I have. Mine is aggressive. He only likes this Buffalo head goby. I really think mine is a hybrid
Hey! You just never know with fish sometimes. 😀
Yep idk what I was thinking but one ate my goby
That can happen - unfortunately
Nice but I’ll still take my super reds!
I wonder why ppl don’t get all males.
